I think you have to be somewhat of a Porsche fan to find the 917 beautiful!

Predictably enough, I'm going for this...

On account of the fact that it's a nice balance between sleek, sexy and brawny - the Jeff Koons livery looks great, especially in person, and it is afterall, a work of art!

I always found the bmw F108 to have a certain engineering beauty all its own.

and the mp4/5 in its original boxy sidepod look.

I'm not a Porsche fan either and I do find the 917 one of the most beautiful race cars EVER.

TBH ... I have a hard time placing any F1 car on a "most beautiful race cars list", because to me Sports Cars are by far and large the BEAUTIES of motorsport.

Even the 917 italian nemesis is a beauty.

Behold the Ferrari 512M, the last of a long and admirable lineage of Ferrari Le Mans thoroughbreds, a lineage broken when dear old Enzo had a small operation going, one that just couldn't do F1 and LM anymore. And he chose F1, his first love. Can't blame the man, but it was a pity.

I'd guess from your postings your particular taste is for the older vehicles, which is fair enough, but to me the 917 is an odd shape, with odd proportions, and there are no nice lines from whatever direction you look at it. The 911 GT1 is probably the most beautiful racing Porshe IMHO, although some of the wilder 911's from years gone by look pretty cool too.

As for the M3 GT2, I like the line of it, simple, well proportioned coupe shape, enough bumps, bulges and vents so you can see it means business, and it bears the styling of a road car that was designed by designers with some sense of style in mind. The art car livery sets it off well, although I'm quite partial to BMWs usual 'White with M colours' liveries too.

I could just as easily posted some old CSL's too, but there's already a lot of nostalgia going on in this thread so I figured something more modern would be nice.

Why this thing keeps getting quoted I'll never know. Sure the livery is nice, but the car itself is a hideously deformed collection of winglets, fins and flaps with absolutely no regard for aesthetics.

^^ I always quite liked the F1.08, to me it kinda represents the pinnacle of my interest in F1.. pretty much every F1 car since the start of the 09 season has been pretty goofy looking or just plane pug ugly... the BMWSauber F1.09 demonstrated both of those qualities admirably!

The livery isn't even nice. It's plain white with a splat of blue. Just like the Toyotas were white with some red paint thrown at it. Plain boring.

Vanwall is nice too. Also love the 917, 512S, and BMW 328 👍

Also like 60s F1 cars in general, there's something about the large tires, simple body work and exposed engine that just looks boss...

There also needs to be a mention of the Ecurie Ecosse Jags.
