This story is a few days old, but I thought it was worthy of its own thread. Here is the news story:

And if you're too lazy to read that long article, here is the gist of what happened. Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry was on a high-risk mission in Afghanistan in 2008, when he entered a building and was wounded in both legs by enemy gunfire. Soon after, a grenade was thrown at his platoon. In an effort to save his comrades, he picked up the live grenade and threw it, costing him his hand and much of his forearm. Even after losing his hand, he still proceeded to lead the mission calmly, even putting on his own tourniquet and telling nurses how to treat his wounds.
I would like to use this thread to thank him for his courage in protecting our freedom. Also, if there are any members of GTPlanet who have fought for any military service that fights for the free world, I would like to extend my greatest thanks to you for your sacrifices to protect our way of life. Thank you 👍.
