The Northwest Karting Challenge and Social Gathering

I'm going to organise a karting event in the northwest UK.
The purpose of this post is firstly to gauge interest, and then progress if I can drum up sufficient numbers.

It's OK if you want to bring a couple of mates along. This will be a fun event, where we can meet up and put a few faces to names.

Although the title states "Northwest", if you're willing to make the trip all are welcome. The venue will be NW UK.

If you are interested, please post on this thread, giving me Name (eg. Duke of Pendle), number of places required.

Update:
I'm aiming for around 20 participants, so I would encourage you guys to consider bringing a friend or two, to help pad out the numbers.
This is the venue; http://www.speedkarting.co.uk/
It looks like an awesome venue, and we can do a Grands Prix event for £45/head.

Strict rule: No drinking of alcohol before the event. If it is suspected that you have been drinking, you will not be allowed to race.

*** EVENT REPORT***

Indeed, we had a great night of racing.

The venue lived up to expectations; friendly personnel, good consistent equipment, challenging track, professional and slick organisation of the event.
I would certainly recommend this venue to anyone.

It's always great to put faces to names. Everyone arrived in good time, and my first impressions were................everyone is so, well...tall!!!
I was certainly in the minority, being one of the very few sub-six footers.

The racing was close and competitive, everyone completing 5 races to accumulate points in order to qualify for the final. Top ten points scorers competed in the slightly longer final race.

Stotty was class of the field, winning the final.
Roo pushed him hard all night, subsequently taking second place in the final.
I came third, probably thanks more to defensive tactics than with outright pace.

Leaderboard prior to Final (GTP members in bold):

Stotty_______________44 points
Wanna_B_____________40 points
DukeOfPendle_________39 points
PrudentBear__________39 points
Duncan_______________39 points
Stevisiov_____________33 points

After an evening-long tussle with Stotty, Roo ended the night with fastest lap.

Thanks to everyone for making the effort to turn up and making this event a success. Stotty's talking about organising a similar event in the South - I'll look forward to that!

Hopefully photos to follow.
OP updated with this report.

Hi guys - I've moved this to the "Local Gatherings" section, but I left a 3 day re-direct in the other forum, which I realize has much more traffic.

It might also be a good idea to PM any members that you know to be in the area, with a link to this thread. 👍

Count me in on this one, haven't done much karting before, would be nice to try some 'real' racing for a change. 👍

I will update if I find some of my mates are interested.

1-enterant

Stevisiov.

I might be interested in this too. Dependent on date, time etc obviously.

Any idea where it will take place or if it's indoor or outdoor karting?

3 Sisters track in Wigan would be perfect outdoor venue if the weather holds up. My brother used to race there, but I'm not sure if they do rental racing or not.
Speedkarting in Warrington is supposedly the UK's largest indoor karting arena and very well organised, my brother's daytime stag-do was held there a couple of years ago.

Probably won't make this myself, but then again I'm due a couple of training classes in M'cr this year, so if the weekend happens to coincide with my being back in Blighty then I could be interested. 👍

Thats my local. I have raced here before so I guess I have the 'home' advantage. its great for an indoor. It now has a raised tier, amazingly you drive up a large ramp up to a raised level.

Would love to take part but abit of a trek for me.

There is this place ---> SpeedKarting

Thats the one. I would recommend it. for an indoor it is a great track.

[edit] acording to the video on the website they have added a third level

Count me in, i'll be up for this!

(As long as it doesn't clash with a Derby County home fixture)

Hmm, well, I am interested but I'm not so sure I would be able to get there and whether I'll have the money.
I've been to SpeedKarting before - fully recommend that place, I should be able to get the train quite easily to there too.

If I do come it will probably just be me, may bring someone else but I have no idea if any of my mates are interested in karting at all yet - will find out.

I would like to think that you could bum a lift from someone else who is going. I'll stick your name down for now and worry about transport arrangements later.
I'm sure you would welcome the opportunity for a rematch. :D
