This is a thread so people can share racing experiences and general opinions on the people racing and...well.....the online environment.

One small gripe I have right now is the amount of punters on NFS-S. The game was more geared towards a sim game, yet 80% of the people who I've come across have tried the good ol' PIT on me. Of course if we are racing on the Nurbugring (and we usually are as the punters join my custom room), then I know how to get my self around, wereas most punters don't.

So guys...any good racing tales?

I suggest in online races, chill in 3rd and watch the punt-fest. Then when the time is right and they punted each other out, take the lead.

Pretty amusing when they both have mics :dopey:

No good tales, all bad ones with punting taking place. Being NFS Shift though, when they start resorting to dirty tactics I don't get mad, I just get even where possible. Had enough of punters in GT5:P, what's stopping me getting even in a game that half encourages punting anyway?

I am amazed with the online in NFS:S. It is so smooth compared to gt, and so far most of my experiences have been good. I met a french guy who was a good clean driver. We had some great racing in golfs at brands hatch GP. Real nose to tail racing. He's now my friend.

Also, for some reason in online I am finding that I have quite good pace compared to others almost all of the time. In GT5p there was always people who were leagues ahead of me. Ive got a fair few more wins than losses in online.

P.S. Does anyone know what the difference between ranked, and unranked matches are?

OMG I know!!!! I set up a race with just GT3RSs at the ring. I was flipping TV channels and the race started with me still at the grid. I essentially gave the 2 other cars a 30 second lead. Hearing them over the microphone was funny when I realised the race had started and I set off. Within 2 minutes I was rapidly approaching them and you could hear them say "hey look, that orange car is coming up - lets block him". So I waited and waited to find an open space where I could sneak past, but I didn't have to because they took each other out (one of them flipped) and I flew past. They thought I was hacking because I was going much faster than them.

My on-line experience is limited to 2 races at the Ring...

I pulled away from the only other racer at a fair rate. So I slowed down to let him catch up... when he eventually caught me, he rammed me off the road and drove off. I managed to get back in touch fiarly quickly and followed him at a safe distance as he missed the apex of every corner on the track. If I made any attempt to pass him he tried to side swipe me. In the end I faked a pass in a really quick section... he went for the block, ended up on the wrong line for the next corner and flew off the track... I cruised to the end.

Similar story in the other race.

I have had a fair few good clean races with a few guys. I find that ranked matches is where all of the good racers are. Recently had a fantastic time attack event with two other guys and we were so close but made sure we were clean. 👍

The mistake they made I believe is giving you points for aggression.. ie. punting, shunting and driving bad... This encourages it online as well obviously and I say do what Paulie does... get them back where you can ;)

My only online race to date was a one-on-one against Mr V. Needless to say there was no punting and it was a very enjoyable race!

i haven't tried the online yet in fear of a bunch of young kids turning race-cars into bumper cars. i will have to give it a go one of these days. Will download the patch when i get home and see how things are. :)👍

As you can create private lobbies in Shift there is no need to fear online punters. We just need to organize some GTP race series.

The "Aggression" thing is totally pointless. Engaging in deliberate punting or blocking completely ruins the actual racing & stops being fun very quickly.

I find online very nice, actually. Did some private races with Hyper, mr_V and timeattack. I don't bother with the public lobbies.

A lot,lot better than GT5P,only had a few race's in the public lobby and only one problem with a racer who would knock everyone out of the way and then proceed to dominate the field, he was actually a very good driver who could have probably won most of the games without charging in to others.
Also., had a lot of private race's with my mate, voice chat on, brilliant fun. After a while the leader would point out different trackside objects... like hot dog stands, video screens and other strange goinis on.Really pleased with the online so far!

I'm amazed about how bad people drive. It's unbelievable but it's funny when they try to hit you by braking late before a corner, to use you as a brake, they miss you and then they fly straight into the wall.

Oh yeah and someone make me spun out on the nurb but then he missed his turn and I overtook him.... again. :sly:

It's not punting which is going on, as a friend and I discovered. It's rather some people's internet connection, and even though we drive cleanly on our side, on their side it looks like we're trying to ram them etc. Every now and then he'll randomly start spinning out, claiming that I've rammed him, even though I haven't gone near him on my side.

All the real punters are at the driver duels, especially in the final and championship stages. :irked:

I share the same stories as you guys I guess.

The only intense race I've had was at Brands Hatch GP. Corvette Z06(me) vs. Corvette Z06 vs. Works Z06 vs. another car that we left in the dust. It was an all out Z06 battle for around 6 laps. Most of the time we were around 10 feet apart. It was intense. Oddly, though, the Works Z06 came in last, I got second place, and the other 'Vette got first. I really didn't mind losing because it was such a good race and I added both of them to my Friends List. 👍

So far, 2 races neither good. 1st a guy spun me for the lead, I finished last. Second I quit because people would go off track and cut back in and hit me.

Well maybe not a whole race series, maybe too much of a hassle with all the timezones, but just races with lots of GTPers. I had quite a few races with Mr_V too and they were very enjoyable.

To Paulie: I never slow down anymore for somebody else when he's slower than me, takes out the "spirit" in the battle. I did it sometimes in GT5P when I was really bored, and only on track with 1 other person. I let him overtake, and overtook him again after a couple of seconds. It's not fun to race that way.

I have done a few races. I have had a few good races but more bad. Last night i was racing at brands Hatch (3rd place) when we get to first curve & somebody rams into causing to crash badly. Another time I got flipped braking into a curve. It seems that you find better races in the ranked matches.

I find it funny that nobody online seems to know how to launch the cars, they must just revs the guts out.

 I fully agree with you Paulie. You don't know how many times I've left people at the grid because of this!

That's probably because revving the nuts off the cars in this game gets you a better start than a proper rev matched start. :yuck:

I find it does. My theory is that people change into 1st after the grean light, and not at the first chance. I don't find any difference, and I usually rev the nuts off till the green light.

In my experience, just mashing the gas pedal gets you a faster start then keeping it in the green and doing it that way...

I've actually had a couple of good experiences when I entered some ranked events. People seem to be rather serious about racing in them. My best experience so far was a 45 minute time attack on Nordschleife. I only had 2 people along with me and it was simply AWESOME! No one got bored and quit the race cuz everyone was breaking each others lap time records continuously! In my final lap.. I reached a lap time of 6.13.590. I guess they pushed me to do better lol. I added them both as my friends.
