eheh ... the Barbie car is only tempting with a Barbie in it, that one I won't touch anyway :D

Tell you what, I'll do a test run later tonight (with other car(s)) and that'll be my last opportunity to play until after Easter. Will post what I find! 👍

(although what I REALLY need to practise is V8, Shift and F1, not GT5P :dopey: )

You're right it is a barbie car, that's why I bought mine in black to make it as manly looking as I could :grumpy:

I've found that the Cali just sticks to the road like glue and that you can be very aggressive on the throttle with it. It's certainly not the most enjoyable car to drive, it feels rather rigid or something but it seems to suit Suzuka pretty well. I'd say the F430 and 599 are in the same ball park but more fun to drive 👍

Thanks for the practise session, Shaggy, mhm and Bullie. After going completely lost with the F430 (every time I changed something the car got worse) I did one race with the Clio and it went very well, very well indeed :sly:

Hmm, sounds ominous :ill:

Suzuka should turn into quite a tight race for a good few of us 👍

SSV8:NC has just arrived and I'm gonna go and fire that up now. If I get time to post my first impressions before I have to go to work I will.

Well, i'm stuck in work on a rare sunny day in Ireland, just on my break now but I did manage a few laps before I had to leave the house.

Have to say, the game is OKAY from my first impressions. The deadzone issue isn't as bad as I thought it might be, but it seems to get worse at higher speeds?? I tried out the game at two familiar tracks, Mugello and Monza - the latter being the acid test as regards deadzone and it just about scraped through a 'pass' for me. It's managable, but I can't see my interest lasting in the game for too long if it isn't improved in a patch. AI did seem good from the few laps I did on medium. The physics are very forgiving and in all honesty are as close in association to Grid as they are to SCC, at least in terms of grip, stability and brakes - but make no mistake, it's a far more enjoyable handling model than Grid - but it does feel a bit dated as Jeff mentioned. Still, I can't wait to practice Portimao for the pentathlon, and I'm still glad I bought it 👍

Indeed, and any mistake means serious trouble to recover, being the race-pace so similar.

About your first paragraph, I don't know if you can call 2,5 secs "ominous", but that's what I gained between my last race with that pityful Ferrari (in the last race you were in I didn't pull better than a 2:04,7xx, but best lap with that car, before I ruined its setup, was 2:03,8). With the Clio I managed to do 2:02.xxx every lap after the first 2 (had to get rid of a spanish punter in a white Lotus), with a best lap of 2:02,2xx.

Henrik didn't put up a fight because that same race he decided to try the California and also because the spaniard in the white Lotus gave him a lot of trouble, from what I could tell in the track map.

That's very quick, I was doing laps between 2:03.0xx-2:03.5xx all race last night. My p.b is a 2:02.2 as well I think but I don't often come close to it. I know I can go faster, but not without maybe taking too many risks. There's a fine line between being committed in the esses and degner curves and running off the track. Maybe I can still eek a bit more out of the set up, I hope :dunce:

Well Mario, have you thought any more about the race details for this event? Any idea what car will be used for the SCC round? Will set ups be allowed? How many laps are you thinking there will be at Interlagos? Just to let you know, at Interlagos the laps will average between 1:10-1:15 and that to have the correct amount of fuel for two stops in a race, to be absolutely sure you would need to have a race of either 14 laps, 17, 19 or 20 I believe. Don't ask why, but if you're doing a 15 lap race for example, you would have enough fuel to only do one pit stop.

You won't hear from the "Mogan Lover" for a few more days. And probably not for a few more after that. :)

I'm guessing both SSVA:NC and SCC will be wet races. Just because...well...that's what I would do.

This is interesting event indeed, but having only 2/5 games makes it pointless for me to take part.

Hey Vompatti 👍 can't you borrow GT5P from some of your friends???
That way you could go for the triathlon...:)

Not if you blast the competition to dust. So find one more game that fits your driving style and give it a go. For me it's Shift, SCC and F1, i don't bother in V8 and GT (I don't play total piece of craps). I have them but don't like driving behavior. I'm intend to just be one more meat to overtake on the track. 👍 But fast meat. :)

But GT5P is that other game that I have! :dopey: I have FC, not SCC ;) I did notice that I could order Shift+SCC from UK under 40€ (21€+17,5€) but the real problem is how do I explain it to my wife! (She said that I need to buy a new pair of jeans and I told her, that I don't want to spend money on something like that now, lol).

Oh,sorry I thought you had SCC...man it's a must have for a driver with your skills you'll love it:tup:

Derek brought up a good point about dubious racing lines and using run off areas as part of the track in V8 at Portimao. Using the run off in turns 2, 3 and 8 gives you a big advantage at this track. The same thing applies to Interlagos for the Juncao corner (turn 12) where using run off gives you an easier angle to approach the corner from. I didn't see anything in the GTP OLR about this, it just mentions that the track boundaries should be defined for each individual event. Will you be laying down any rules about this, Mario?

BTW I'm loving Portimao, what a track :) If Catalunya (old layout) and Interlagos had a baby, it would be this 👍

Hi Ben (Shaggy), hi all. No time to read all now, just came back from a week away. In any case and in reply to your last question the rules to be followed are very simple. Two wheels on track at all times. If by accident or mistake you go off the track entirely and you gain positions because of it, you must give them back. :)

Hi Gents.
I got all the games, except one "shift" could i have in.?
Have fun Ant.

I'm the same, and i'm amazed at how many people had been suckered into buying NFS Shift. I don't remember everyone rushing to buy Grid in quite the same way even though they're both arcadey racers.

Btw, it's been dead as fried chicken in this forum lately. There's so little activity round here. Any thoughts yet Mario on the weather/cars to be used in a few of these races?

Hi Shaggy. Last week I was away, this week I'm trying to recover a way of earning my living (can't leave the office for too long I guess) ;)

I thought this coming weekend would be peaceful but meanwhile got called to help parents-in-law moving to a new home

Anyway, I'll give it some thought and will post a few details until Sunday. Next week we will have the build up, last call to insccriptions, and the full details.

Btw, last night I was "summoned" by a group of old GT5P friends to race in that game. Player matching in that game was never any worse, I am very afraid that the first "leg" of the pentathlon will be the most troublesome also.

Also, I'm counting on you to help with the F1:CE part of the pentathlon. Will ask the same to arvore and/or Manny in Shift, and to Jeff in SCC. Him or me for the hosting - or both if 2 lobbies are needed (but I don't think so).

About V8, I don't think that game has online problems, so anyone can host. I don't see Derek (turnupdaheat) interested in the Pentathlon, but if he is - and considering how many hours of V8-play he must have by now, then he could also take responsability for a V8 lobby.

@ Chilled: You must have 3 of the relevant games, so if you only miss Shift you are a-ok! 👍

Willing and able Mario! :)

There isn't much to it with the F1:CE lobbies, one thing I would suggest though is that it should be set to half-grid rather than full as the added AI cars can sometimes cause lag. It still leaves 11 spots for us either way.

I think Derek said he's sold both GT5P and F1:CE and that's why he can't participate, I think.

I think ironically the game I need to practice most will be SCC as i've always been quite Badoer at it ;)

Well I just got noticed by my wife that we do have a long scheduled appointment for the 17th. Therefore I'll miss the penthatlon... I'm sorry! :(

Mario, just remember, with NFS, you'll have to give people a chance to buy whatever car you decide on. It's just my personal opinion but I would stick to tier 1 or 2 cars; 3 at the most. Not only is the racing better and more realistic with the slower cars but it will be easier for people who just bought this game to acquire them.

If Mario decides to stick to stock cars, which he probably will, there shouldn't be a problem because you would run manufacturers race and everyone will drive the car chosen by the host.👍

Yep, stock cars it is, and manufacturer (i.e. one-make) races, still unsure what car to pick, but I'll avoid supercars.

Bullie, if we race sunday instead of saturday will you be able to make it? I'm thinking Sunday mighht be better because:
a) Jeff already told me he will have trouble to make it saturday
b) The Shift gang have their races saturday nights
c) now you also can't make it saturday

For the time being I will leave the main focus in this forum to the Ferrari Challenge series that is just 2 days away. Next monday I will probably start setting it all up (race details for each of the 5 games; drivers list, and a final definition on date and hour).

Yeah, Sunday will be fine to me :)

Just did a few practice laps at Interlagos in F1:CE and i'm very out of practice with it. My best regular lap without any draft before had been something like a 1:10 flat, but that was done taking a wide entry to Juncao by using the run off of turn 11 - this used to gain me about half a second at least. My fastest regular lap this session was a 1:11.1, so I think i'm still a good half second off my best.

It's gonna be a real challenge adapting to the different handling models of all the games on the night :)
