This thread is dedicated to those Turn One scrambles. When the green flag is deployed, cars begin to spread out for the first turn. And while watching stock cars zoom down the backstretch on the first lap is fun (I'll admit as a road racing fan), there's nothing like four or five wide at Sebring, three-wide into Turn 1 at Lime Rock, or watching the Le Mans competitors dart out two or three wide. GTPlanet, share some of your favorite scrambles, whether it's touring cars, Formula One, sportscar racing, NASCAR, Moto GP... any opening scramble. Because after all, the start can be as exciting as the finish. Care to share? Go ahead.

CART usually has some pretty good ones, and the opening scramble is pretty much always a highlight in F1.
My favorite start ever has to be Surfers Paradise '99 (or maybe it was '00) where the first turn is a chicane that hardly allows 2 lines, down the front straight there was a little dicing around and I believe Tracy even made up a couple spots before reaching the start line, which didn't go unnoticed by the officials.

At turn one though it was all about DeFerran and Montoya, Gil and JP touched wheels, Montoya slams into the outside (inside?) wall, Gil went around the track with some damage to reach the pits, I do believe Montoya showed him a hand gesture or two when he got there. That wouldn't be the only incident at that turn.
Surfer's Paradise is one of the few street courses I respect.

One opening scramble that was a little odd was at Sonoma not long ago. At the Speed World Challenge Touring Cars race, one BMW got scooped up from behind by his teammate and got rolled over. DNF without even seeing turn one.
