The Patented all in Divebomb

Hello. I'm having trouble with the dive bomb. I have the racing line. They are behind me. I know when I try to take the corner exactly what is going to happen lol

The problem is that many people who do it are actually clean racers. They simply don't understand that it is wrong.

Does anyone think a few videos explaining the dive bomb would be a good idea in the game? It is hard to defend position when tyres start to wear in the lower ranked races I'm good enough to race in.

A penalty system that could spot a divebomb would be awesome but I don't think they could apply it fairly

I do laugh about it though. I'm not one to get annoyed. Would just be nice to be able to defend a position fairly

Having an S rating doesn't mean you're necessarily clean. It can also mean you know how to exploit the current problems with the penalty system.

In general a dive bomb, unless executed to perfection and being clean, isn't considered very gentlemenly... You're surprising your opponent in a clearly tough situation i.e. a high speed corner. Very few will have the race craft to anticipate it so either you'll collide or they will take instantly reactive decisions which would normally lead to going off track or into a wall.

In real life, that's why you very rarely see them in professional motor racing as someone could get seriously hurt easily. If you're faster, you can find better, cleaner and safer ways to get past 🙂

I know it's an awkward one.

I remember years ago at Monaco F1, there was a driver divebombing at the same corner which was unsporting. Then he tried it on Kimi Raikonnen, and Kimi smashed both cars out of the race. He wasn't having any of it

Kimi is a legend though 😎

If someone is within 0.3s of me, I’ll cover the inside so they have to go the outside line (not always a successful defense but at least we don’t crash), otherwise I just go with the normal racing line.
That's similar to what I do too but it leaves you wide open to the push pass instead! All fun and games though...

I did a number board decal for GT7. I called it, The Jolly Dive Bomber.

You can choose to defend if you want. Might be better actually as someone with less skill won't be able to take advantage of it and probably doesn't even know what an old switcheroo is. If they push you wide then oh well you were probably going to get done over anyway with the dive. Good that you don't get annoyed though. It's just a game and there's always going to be stuff like this so may as well take it in your stride.

If you're on the racing line and you know that they're going to try to divebomb you, maybe you should try some defensive driving. Take the inside line and make them go outside. That way when they inevitably overcook it they slide off the outside of the circuit without hitting you.

In racing you can't expect the other driver to do the right thing just because it's the right thing. We all know how many windowlickers are out there. If you know that they're going to do something stupid, put yourself in a position where it's as hard for them to ruin your race as possible. Just because you're on the racing line doesn't mean you're safe.

We can say that they're driving wrong and implement penalties or whatever, but even in real life people still do this. Ultimately you have to look at your own driving and figure out what you can do to keep yourself safe. Sometimes it's as extreme as letting them past in the knowledge that they'll likely crash themselves out before the end of the race. Staying on track and avoiding dingleberries who think that they're the next incarnation of Senna is more important than being fast. As a wise man once said - To finish first, first you have to finish.

If the game could just ghost the person if they're going ~20mph faster in to a corner then it'd be fine. They'd sail off in to the wall and wouldn't do it again. Simple fix IMO
This would be one of the few occasions ghosting should always apply, severly overspeeding into any corner with at least one other car that will be hit.

Speaking of Ghosting, can anyone tell me when does it actually triggers ? I've seen people suddenly get ghosted when they're not even hitting each other.
