The Peugeot dilemma... :nervous:

Okay, so a bit of a dilemma here.

I'm thinking of adding a Pug 905 to my growing collection of racing cars, (I now have most of the closed top racing cars, go me!!) but I'm not sure how it handles or anything, all I know is people don't like its turbo lag, but I'm guessing that's only a problem if you add stage four turbos?? (I don't add turbo's to those kinds of cars unless it's for testing purposes)

I tried checking the car database and it appears nobody has written anything about it there, and I did a search and couldn't find anything specific thread-wise either.
So if someone who has one could give me a nice description of it's pro's cons and other tit-tat I'd be very appreciative. (Is that even a word?)

Thanks in advance! :)

PS - If there is a thread or post that already covers this that I may have missed in my search, then I do apologise!!

Here's the 411 on the Peugeot 905. It's probably the best handling Group C car, endurance is good, gear changes are insanely slow, top speed goes no higher than 225mph at stock. To be accurate to real life it should be the best of the Group C cars. But it's not, it's not even close.

I bought one, but I would advise you against it, while it is a cool car, great handling fast, it is not turbo lag but changing gears which lets it down. PD butchered this car, it should be the fastest of the Group C cars but thanks to pathetic gear change times, it is not the quickest.

Note: its is still one of the fastest but the gears makes it an annoying car to drive, which is a shame.

Also The turbo has no effect on gear change time, so if you do buy the car, don't worry about buying a turbo because turbo lag is not the cars problem.

Ah, thanks guys!! From the sounds of it, it sounds like a cool car to own, asides from the gear issues. There's nothing you can do about that, huh?? :(

As long as it handles well, I'm not to bothered about the top speed as I have plenty of other fast cars for that (Well, as long as it's better than the god awful R390 which used to be one of the best cars in GT)

What I don't want to do is blow 3.5 million on a heavy lump that doesn't corner!! :D

Also - Are you sure that version of the 905 is group C?? I know it appears in that class on Gran Turismo but I thought it only raced one year as group C (Looking totally different) and all 3 cars retired that year before the classes changed??

The Peugeot 905 is not bad IMO if you use it at La Sarthe 1&2 and on tracks which dont require fast acceleration.
The 905 is roughly 200 pounds lighter than any other group C-Car (because it was NA and in the 3.5 litre category -which means its not really a group c-car), it handles incredible good and its tire wear outlasts most other cars, but its accleleration is very slow until you're in 4th gear, but than it changes the gears faster and it can compete with the group-c's and LMGTP's.
Its defenitely not a car you're looking for if you have the first 3,5 million credits. If you have bought all other cars buy it and give it a try, but youre much better off buying a 787B or a Jaguar XJR-9.

I dont know why PD messed up that car so much, it was the best car in its time and won 24 hours of Le Mans with a quiet big gap; if you watch the 92' race you can hear the gear changes and they are extremely fast (And the engine sound is of course different too). :dunce:

It might not be Group C acctually, I just assumed it was looking at the era
[edit] just seen post above, so there you go it's not group C.

Yeah, I've already got almost every other closed top racing car so I wanted to know if it would be a good addition to my collection, and from the sounds of it it would be.

To be honest I'm suprised it wasn't rated better in GT myself, seeing as it got a 1,2,3 finish in '93. :\

Anywho, thank you for clearing that up for me, and describing what it's like to me, when I first heard it was in the game I was expecting it to dominate, then when I heard aboput the lagging of the turbos my expectations all but died, at least now I sort of have a good idea about what I'm going to be buying, so thanks again!! :D

The 905 is a good car, it has good handling and can do the Sarthe Endurance races longer than any other car as long as you are not up against the Pescarolo's (Sarthe 1) or the Mazda (Sarthe 2). The gearbox lag is a concern but makes it up for its handling and its tyre life and can compete against Group C and LMP cars.

I would leave the 905 race car until last, its no point buying the Jaguar XJR-9 as you can get it once you complete 50% of the game. As well you can get the Toyota 7 Race Car if you beat Driving Missions 25-29, The Nissan R89C Group C car if you beat Driving Missions 30-34, the Nissan R92CP if you beat Fuji 1000km Endurance, the Bentley Speed 8 for Sarthe Endurance 2, Audi R8 if you beat Sarthe Endurance 1 (No point buying it from the dealer) and the Sauber Mercedes C9 if you beat the Formula GT. As well as the Toyota 88C-V if you beat the El Capitan Endurance race.

So for alternatives you can buy are the BMW V12 LMR, Nissan R390 GT1 (New and Black edition), Mazda 787B (New and Black edition), Nissan R92CP (Black edition), Toyota GT-One (New and Black Edition) and the Pescarolo Courage and Judd cars. Try each car out (save your data to another memory card - in the second memory card disable the autosave and buy the car - then do not change and go into arcade mode - have a try and if you do not like it you can reset it and go from the start)

If you want alternatives then have a search in the forums for advice or let me know.

well if you are going to go ahead and buy, it can I make a recommendation?

The gear change times are similar to that of the caddilac CIEN, frustrating:ouch: , there are ways of avoiding this however, think of the Chapparal, you hardly change gear in it because there are only 3 gears.

If you go into the transmission on the setup menu;

1) Massivly up the first second and third gear, enough so that you can easily, hit over 200 Mph in third gear.

2) then massively shorten 4 and 5, therefore effectively rendering these last two gears redundant, this second bit should only be done if you drive in Manual, and is not really important, I just do it to mentally remind me to avoid changing gears until I get used to it.

Basically you have now have yourself a 3 speed gear box, you will obviously have to tinker a bit to ensure, it is a suitible drive. Now while having the disadvantage of less gears, therefor less selection for cornernering, (amoungst other problems). You will now find you will have to change far less gears, therefor you have more time on the power, it will be far less annoying as well, It works for me, and I do recommend it.

Thanks mynameissport and Stevisiov90. :D

I already have most of the race cars and have done all of the major tournaments etc, so I wanted to add another racing car to my collection, I wanted one that handles well and this sounds good from what I've read.

Stevisiov90, I will certainly try that idea, I don't know why, but I kind of enjoyed the 3 gear 2J. :D When I buy it, which'll be in an hour or so I will test the default settings and if I hate the gears I'll switch it to a 3 speed. My only worry is I'll lose alot of exit speed from corners...
