Hello everyone.
I'm gonna try something new for me.
Here's my first attempt at fan fic.
Please leave your comments/suggestions, but try not to be too harsh. lol
Also, excuse the lack of pics, I use my iPod 90% of the time, so pics can be pretty difficult for me.
Anyways...
Chapter 0.5: Red Necks Know Nothing
Vroom, a red neck pulls up alongside Tom and his family in a run down Camaro with no muffler and revs his engine for no apparent reason other than to annoy those around him.
Pop, Tom's Dad, highly dislikes obnoxious, unclassy, topless, mullet bearing people that know nothing about cars.
Pop revs the engine of his Golf MK VI in return. Eager to show the southerner how it's done.
The red neck nods in agreement as the light turns green.
The Golf, being front wheel drive takes off with little wheel spin as the rear tires of the Camaro shred to bits.
The slightly modified Volkswagen is gone before the end of the block.
Tom and his father return to the track in high spirits and with full bellies.
Pause for physical description: Tom- dark brown hair, 14 years old, slightly more muscular than average. Currently wearing a pair of basketball shorts and a white t-shirt that reads "Rothmans Porsche" on the front and back. Average height. Average weight.
Pop- 46 years old, black hair, wears a polo and jeans. Average weight and height.
They climb out of the Golf and walk to the trailer where their beast was waiting.
Tom let down the door revealing his fourth brother. His PDI Racing Kart. The kart had nearly 85 races under it's belt. 32 of which were wins. It boasted 27 polls and 39 fastest laps. If Tom was lucky however, this kart would be finishing up it's final season...
Chapter 1: Qualy Begins!
The kart was already cleaned and ready to go.
Chain was lubed, tires were up to pressure, and it looked brand spakin' new.
The venue: Laguna Seca.
Every year, a competition is held here. A shooting of sorts.
The winner receives a sponsorship and new kart to race in the IKC. The International Karting Championship. Arguably the most prestigious karting series on the planet.
The practice sessions had come and gone, now it was time for qualifying.
Tom suited up into his white suit, white helmet, black gloves, neck brace, rib protector, and black boots.
"Don't go so wide coming around the first hairpin!" Pop yelled over the sound of the engine that Tom had just started. "You lose more time than you gain. And you can also get on the brakes later and the gas sooner coming around the last corner. And finally, DO NOT be afraid of the Corkscrew. I need you to take that corner as fast as you possibly can. Come the race, it will be a crucial passing zone."
Tom nodded in agreement as the two of them lifted the kart off the stand and into the pits. The Marshall waved the racers off as qualifying began...
Chapter 1.5: Poll! For Now...
Tom came out of the pits and onto the track first. He covered the radiator to get the engine up to temp as he swerved back and forth to do the same with the tires. He exited the final hairpin and went on to his first flying lap. He flew past the start finish line at 78 mph. Coming into the first turn, BBBRRRRAAAAAKKKKKEEEE! Turn in. "Don't go wide, don't go wide," Tom said to himself. Corner exit.
Lift for the next right hander. Tap the brakes for the next. Hard on the brakes for the coming left hander and onto the straightaway. Hard onto the brakes, out-in-out. Coming up the hill, brake turn in and around the corkscrew. Lift for the next left hander, and then tap the brakes for the right turn.
Tom broke later than usual for the final hairpin, and got on the gas. Going over the rumble strips perfectly at corner exit.
Luckily, there wasn't any traffic on that lap, Tom noticed that the engine was above 150 degrees in the hot California weather. So, he brought it into the pits to cool off and talk to Pop. He coasted into the pits and hopped out of the kart. "That was sweet! That lap put you at the top of the leaderboard as of now. Your faster than second by at least a tenth in sectors one and three. He's got you by a few hundredths in sector two." Tom was about to ask how he could make up those few hundredths, but he heard a hissing noise behind him. Tom spun, looked, and yelled. "Ah 🤬."
There was steam rising from the radiator.
Chapter 2.0: That's Racing!
Pop and Tom quickly put the kart back up onto the stand and rolled it over to the trailer. After a quick scan of the kart for any issues, they came to the conclusion that it had simply overheated... After one lap at full speed! Now they had to wait the rest of the qualifying session for it to cool off. They decided to go watch the leaderboard as Tom was bumped down farther, and farther, and farther. By the time qualifying was over, and the engine had cooled off, Tom was in twelfth out of sixteen drivers. That concluded their day at the track. It was time to suck it up, and move on. That's racing! Tom and his father rolled the kart into the trailer, locked it up, and drove off to their hotel in the VW. There was a long day ahead of them!
Chapter 2.5: Race Day
Race day.
This consisted of two events, a twelve lap pre-final, and a fifteen lap final.
Your starting position for the pre-final is determined by your qualifying time, fastest first. For the final, your starting position depends on where you finish in the pre-final. Once again, fastest first. Upon their arrival to the track, Tom an Pop fueled up the kart, made some last minute tuning adjustments and headed for the pits where they gridded up in twelfth. And at that, the racers went about their formation lap. Tom, along with the rest of the pack, were desperately weaving back and forth in an attempt to get heat into the tires on this cool morning. Next thing Tom knew, the green had dropped and they were off. Tom was quickly able to dispose of eleventh place by timing the start. However, as the pack approached turn one, disaster happened...
5th place decided that he would use other karts as his brakes as he nearly ran over 3rd. Third then bumped first and caused a massive pile up coming into turn one. Tom was able to get away unscathed along with 7th, 9th, 13th, 14th, and 16th. The race was immediately red flagged. All of the karts involved in the crash had major damage. Some of the drivers had minor injuries. One had a cracked rib. The race organizers contemplated on what to do...
