Nice job with the Skrillex logo. Looks like it's just made up of symbols. Pretty neat!

But do we need a thread for him? Will the dubstep thread not suffice?

Tesla
Well he isn't dubstep so...

Regardless, why should a single producer get their own thread? :odd:

 If he isn't dubstep than what is he? If you give me the name of a real genre of music than I'll believe you.

I was curious so I looked it up. He's the face of some genre called "brostep". WTF is that? It sounds like it came from a Youtube comment.:odd:

Yes, its brostep, as opposed to roflstep or trollstep. :sly: Skrillex is dubstep, there is no need for subcategories.

He's dubstep, plain & simple. The sheer fact these artists are trying to "break out" of dubstep & be called something else shows the whole "genre" is already played out. :dunce:

@astrodude, the logo was created years ago by other people!

Why not we call the genre "electrostep"?

If I put some noises together with a half time 140bpm drum pattern underneath, can I call it dubstep? :dopey: Trolling aside, Skrillex is an odd case. I'd say it's a mishmash of various genres. But, it's too midrange-focused to be called purely dubstep. Much like most of Doctor P's tunes (sweet shop, anyone?).

Rule of thumb: If it sounds alright without a sub or a decent pair of headphones, then it isn't dubstep.

One trick pony who just happens to be the lucky guy elected to lead the dubstep 'movement' if you can call it that.

Skrillex isn't dubstep. he is more of a "Housestep". I also find that he is pretty bad at whatever the hell that 4/5 minute audio track is. He sounds like Spor on weed. Tell him to lay off the LFO and use some good synth settings instead of LFO'd Saws and Sines.

He wasn't really elected to lead the dubstep movement, since the genre didn't have a motive to be popular. You can even goa head and credit Skrillex to the soon death of Dubstep. You want good/ACTUAL dubstep? Here:

I'd just like to add to that statement NissanSkylineN1 that the reason he was so popular to begin with was because he already had a fanbase formed when he was in From First to Last. And dubstep won't die any time soon, people will just get bored of it and move onto the next flavour of the month, returning it to it's underground status again.

He said himself that he is more of a techno artist. The only thing I have against his is some of the idiots who follow him. You know, the ones who consider skrillexism a religion and everyone else who creates a "dubstep" track is wrong and is bad and skrillex is the best there is, was, and ever will be. They refuse to acknowledge any other artists. I myself prefer a new upcomer called Zomboy. I found him a few days after he got going and about 4 months down the line he is already on the UKF 2011 Dubstep album.

Well, basically rap was on life support by a few artists like Common, until around 2008 until it just died with Lil Wayne's The Carter III and other crappy releases.

"My name is skrillex,
My name is skrillex,
My name is skrillex,
My. Name. Is. Skrillex" lol
He is good, I had his scary monsters and nice spirits in gt5...
After a while it got to much...
His remix to la roux "in for the kill" is awesome

I'd say Skrillex is brostep. To me, "brostep" is straight up BASS WOBBLE OMG WOBWOBWOBWOB and AGGRESSIVE SYNTHS WEEWOOWEEWOO... Basically it's really aggressive dubstep.

*cough* that's not to say that he's bad. It's just that it's music for the bros: you don't really take it seriously and you just soak it all in without thinking.

With that said, I dig Pretty Lights and Burial for serious stuff (although PL dabbles more in hip-hop production more and Burial is just on another level).

Yeah I feel the same. I like some dubstep, but it's too aggressive for me. I'll stick to my hardstyle.

So it's too aggressive for you, so you go to hardstyle? :odd:

I said I like some dubstep. I don't like Skrillex dubstep. And I tried liking Skrillex but I just can't.

And I guess you either like dubstep or hardstyle, but not both. My brother and his friends listen to dubstep and all kinds of electronic music but not hardstyle. I listen to all kinds of electronic music and hardstyle, but not dubstep.

I just can't come to like whatever sounds start at 1:00.

It's only good when your high, and sucks just about any other time. My personal opinion anyway.

Merry Christmas! Here's a music video of "Ruffneck (Full Flex)" to add your celebration. (You'll see the relevance)

Are you ready for the Christmas bass?!

Awkward moment when there's pretty much no bass. And

Not true. I listen to dubstep (albeit the real stuff with sub bass) and hardstyle. I enjoy both, as well as happy hardcore and gabber. Musical taste isn't something you can generalise in my opinion.

Skrillex is meh. I've listened to many artists from the Dubstep genre and I've gotta say that no one comes close to sounding the exact same in every track as Skrillex does. There isn't any originality in his work and it just sounds bad. I'd be embarrassed to listen to anything of his in a public space just for fear of being laughed at.
