The Tuning Car Reconquista
Vehicular: Suzuki GSX-R/4 '01
Mods: All available
Tires: R3/R3
Oil Change: Yep
Event: Tuning Car Grand Prix
Stats: 271 HP/146.03 ft. lb./582 kg
Grid
Nismo Skyline GT-R R-tune (R34) '99
Ruf BTR '86
Opera Performance S2000 '04
Mine's Lancer Evolution VI '00
Spoon S2000 '00
Suzuki GSX-R/4 '01
Round I: Tocirpa Llih Yawecar (Apricot Hill Raceway Reverse)
Best: 1'20.643
Victorious: 14.038 seconds over the Opera S2000
If there was a race here, I didn't know it. Once I'd moved past the BTR, it was clear sailing to an easy victory. With racing mediums, the GSX rides as if it were a railed vehicle. For the next race, I decide to switch back to the standard S2/S2 tires for the sake of competitiveness.
By the way, the BTR flew off the road at the second to last corner. Oops!
Round II: Fuji Speedway (Party like it's the 90's)
Best: 1'35.122
Victorious: 1.126 seconds over the Opera S2000
Switched back to regular tires. A-Spec points went from 10 to 76. Suddenly, I have no acceleration at all, and I'm forced to squeeze every bit of the control I don't have anymore out of the car to stay ahead. Well, it wasn't that bad, really, but it wasn't racing mediums, either. All is well until the final lap, when I go flying off the hard first corner (note: apparently, braking performance also affected by tire type ). The BTR grumbles past me, but is quickly dispensed with in the twisty bits, as I have better cornering speed, regardless of tires.
I'm beginning to wonder about that Opera S2000. It smoked the BTR coming up the straight to take second place...
Round III: Leafy Tokyo R246
Best: 1'44.854
Victorious: 3.353 seconds over the Opera S2000
Oh dear. Two laps of hearing BTR footsteps and I'm a bit unnerved. However, all was under control, and thusly was my victory assured, especially when the Opera S2000 and the BTR starting dueling viciously, allowing me to gain a little bit of extra time.
I'm really beginning to wonder if I should check out that S2000...
Round IV: Miracle at El Capitan
Best: 1'51.963
Victorious: 2.610 seconds over the Ruf BTR
A SPECTACULAR crash coming into the huge elevation change/tunnel section.
Play by play:
Carrying too much speed into the uphill, I fly off into the wall, which sends me spinning back across. The BTR nearly creams me as he comes by, but I avoid him...only to slide back into traffic. The Opera S2000 t-bones me and sends me spinning through the air, pinballing off two walls, and eventually sliding to a stop halfway into the tunnel. I am six seconds behind. The 1'51 up there got me back to three, and I haunted the BTR, and rode his side bodywork up that blasted hill to retake the lead.
On another note, I kept sliding off one particular corner, and couldn't figure out why. Turns out, everybody else was sliding off it too. Go figure.
Round V: Reconquista at Tsukuba
Best: 56.371
Victorious: 5.443 seconds over the Ruf BTR
Pretzely Tsukuba is a track that seems made for this car. Unlike El Capitan and Tokyo, where I felt like a go-cart, Tsukuba makes the GSX feel like an LMP, while all the bigger, heavier machines go sliding about. This feeling is reflected in my sparkling best lap. No trouble with this race at all, and after the El Capitan incident (which I am SO putting in my story), it was a welcome dose of cruising.
After-Action Report
The GSX-R/4 was an absolute pain to win, but it was worth all the hassle. I have only two complaints:
A) I hate red
B) Not shiny enough
So, if you're wondering about the GSX, wonder no more. Go get it, and you'll turned out just as pleased with it as I did. 👍
