It would be nice if we knew what the heck you were talking about.

It is not CGI, he vanished before slim shady was to perform from what I read.

Gizmodo reports otherwise:

For those who thought the immaculately-chiseled rendition of Tupac was based on some sort of old footage, more disappointment: Rolling Stone reports the rapper was CGI. But at least it was good good, expensive CGI, "created by the Hollywood special effects studio Digital Domain, who have previously worked on films such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, TRON: Legacy and X-Men: First Class." Total price? Somewhere between $100,000 and $400,000. And it paid off: other than the weird super-abs, occasional unintentional moonwalking, and the performance's finale, wherein Tupac vanished in a burst of light, the whole thing was plenty realistic. With all the weed and ecstasy throbbing through Coachella, there were probably a good number of fans who thought they were actually witnessing a reincarnation.

I thought it was awesome, but it's going to get played out real fast. I already read Dr. Dre wants to go on tour with the hologram.

They should use this technolgy sparingly for like really special performances, if not it makes it look like some gimmick to sell tickets. I wonder what Suge Knight has to say about all this?

I also thought it was existing recorded footage just fiddled with but apparently Tupac was all CGI which was pretty cool. Nice hologram effect even though it was just a 2D optical illusion.

It's not a hologram though is it.. just a CGI projection 'appearing' to hang in space? It doesn't appear to have any of the 3D characteristics of a Hologram... I could be wrong.

Your right, it wasn't a hologram. It was just a 2D image but floating in the air giving the illusion of depth.

I'm hoping for a collaboration between Tupac and this:

The technology behind Miku's stage appearances is completely different though. They'd have to adapt her to appear with him, or him to appear with her. Either way, it's probably a pain in the ass. Plus. What would they perform together?

I have never been a huge fan of rap but do listen to it once in a while. When I watched this video I thought it was amazing. Very well presented. I am sure this is going to start happening a lot more often with concerts. I would love to see someone do this with Darrell Abbott (Dimebag Darrell from Pantera) at one of the concerts!! That would be epic! 👍

I wasn't being serious, but a Grey Album style mash up would be sweet.

STOP SAYING "OH OH, ITS NOT A HOLOGRAM, IM AN EXPERT ON 3D I KNOW, I READ IT ON A WEBSITE AND SUDDENLY IM AN EXPERT". Shut up, I started the thread to discuss whether people agree with a "dead" person doing a concert or whether we should respect the dead and let them rest in peace. I dont want anyone else saying technical stuff, we have already had 3 obnoxius people doind that. Rant over

You certainly didn't make that clear in your original post!

What do all the old school rap fans think of the Tupac hologram?

Can mean anything....

Heh, old school...Bringing back Jam Master Jay as a hologram would be old school.

Who shut off Tupac Shakur a second time? The Man did it.

I thought it was amazing. I couldn't help but get goosebumps while watching it, same for everyone I've showed it too.
