That's not very calming then, seeing as there's been more than a few pictures of different chaser vehicles spotted in Denton, just north of DFW. :scared:
Tornado chasing is like treasure hunting. The majority of their job is looking and hoping followed by boredom and disappointment.

Storm and tornado chasing is something on my bucket list of to dos in life.

Sunny, warm and beautiful weekend, followed by a rainy Monday here.

I like watching & listening to heavy storms. Tornadoes is where is I draw line. And run.

Storm chasers purposely approach from behind or the side of the direction the storm is moving, which is easily tracked on radar. Sometimes it will make a crazy turn, but they keep enough distance to have room to run or take cover.

I have a feeling that people think tornado chasing is just like the movie Twister. That was an example of complete and total reckless behavior by people that are supposed to be professionals. They are supposed to witness and study the storm, not become a casualty of it.

It is safe enough that some groups fund their research by allowing people to pay to join them for a week. That means a lawyer, an insurance risk analyst, and likely an accountant all approved it.

It looks like it is going to start warming up here after an incredibly wet month of May. There is also no rain in the forecast for the next week.

Under a tornado watch till 10:00. On the eastern edge of the watch so it might not be too bad, except for the rain.

The cell brewing around Bismarck is what's headed towards us. And of course it'll hit at night because more scary.
Stormscapelive.tv has cameras that work in the dark, so if it continues into the darkness they'll stay with it.

The meteorologists are saying that we are under a dome of warm air which is keeping storms from brewing. Its gonna get a bit exciting in a while because it is very humid out right now, and once it cools off some more that dome will wear off, setting off some storms. Just some weather knowledge :sly:

We've had some freezing days down here in Melbourne-today was 12 degrees, and the previous 3 days had a 13 degree maximum. Not to mention that it's officially winter, but boy has it been a cold start.

Just went for a bike ride. I was watching this roll in as I was nearing home but fortunately I made it about ten minutes before it really started.

Now that summer is here, it's very hot. Also, I find it funny that I'm posting this ten years to the day that the thread started.

Hurricane rolling up the Mexican coast, should start rolling into my area Monday night. I have high priority work to do this week, looks like the weather might put a halt to it.

We're supposed to hit 91F today. I thought this was a frozen wasteland, damnit! We aren't built for that kind of heat!

Simultaneous aurora and lightning, from today's spaceweather.com

"I've never seen auroras and lightning visible side by side before," marvels Chester. "These photos were taken between 2 and 3 am on Monday, June 8th."

At about the same time in Hartford, Wisconsin, Jake Stehli witnessed a similar display. "The auroras were visible to the naked eye with lightning in a thunderhead on the horizon as well," he says.

Nice weather for taking a trip today. Cloudy evening at Devils Lake with temps in the low 70s. Better than 90° that we had yesterday.

Gonna be a hot one today. Temps ranging from 80 to 85 with scattered thunderstorms later on.

Looks like some rain developing out by Jamestown.

Guess I'd better hurry and get home

85 is hot? Lol. News to me ;)

Looks like Houston will be hit again on Tuesday and Wednesday. Expecting 2-4 inches... ugh
