After all the threads and many many posts about GTPlanet members feeling negative about the delayed release of GT5, let's try to think positive about this issue. Name your reasons why it is a good thing that we will receive GT5 in March of next year please. I will maintain a list of the best suggestions and start off with a few of my own. Thanks 👍
Please try to keep your suggestions limited to one line of text.
Also, please do not post here if you can only come up with negative thoughts.

REASONS TO BE HAPPY ABOUT THE DELAYED GT5 RELEASE

@ PD has more time to include great new cars in the game such as the new Toyota Celica (FT86), Opel Calibra and Ford Capri.
@ we have more time to expore other racing games (only to find that for PS3 GranTurismo is the real thing after all).
@ you can save up more money to buy that all new Logitech G27 wheel, wheelstand or Playseat.
@ its a good thing as things can only get better and be improved, and new features may be added that would of been left out.
@ it leaves us knowing that they will have the time to smooth out any issues, possibly add new cars and implement new features.
@ we now actually have a release date.
@ gives PD time to look at what will make Forza 3 so popular, and consider including elements of it...
@ 6 months worth of improvements in quality.
@ another 6 months of having a life.
@ gives PD time to improve the physics, collision physics, A.I. and scenery.
@ I rather have a polished game stuffed with things the developers wanted included, than a rushed buggy game.
@ the 6 month time period they have until release is a great amount of time to fully improve, adjust, and tweak [those] issues.
@ if GT5 came out end of December my semester exams would have been a disaster.
@ there's going to be some more cars say about an extra 30-50 cars which would bump it up closer to 1,000 or a bit less.
@ I have no vacation time left for 2009. So, if GT comes out in 2010, then I will have a more vacation time to take when the game comes out. I plan on taking a few days off.
@ less bugs, more features, a finished game. Doesn't get much more positive than that.
@ you have time to polish or acquire your driving skills so you will be ready to fully enjoy the game.
@ I hope it doesn't come out next year because if it comes out in 2012 it will be absolutely awesome as they will of had loads of more time to perfect stuff and include even more cars and tracks etc.
@ time to learn the curves of Nordschleife.
@ I won't get yelled at and nagged by my fiancee until next spring for spending too much time playing games and not enough time with her.
@ the longer it takes for KY to finally decide that GT5 is finally ready and that it's going to totally blow our socks off, the cheaper my future PS3 purchase becomes.
@ time is the only thing that can save us from another bug-fest that takes you to hell and back with annoyances just as often as it takes you to the most heavenly places imaginable with major fun.
@ people might grow up in 6 months so they don't yell at Kaz because they don't like weather effects.

Updated up to post 110. Most original posts marked bold 👍

Technically it hasn't been delayed, as there was no official release date, only speculation. But the way I look at it, its a good thing as things can only get better and be improved, and new features may be added that would of been left out.

On the down note first:
We've "lost(?)" 50 cars.

On the up note:
The game will be better. It will always be better. I think the game is going to meet most of the common expectations (Those random one-off requests need to be prepared for disappointment though). I feel good about it.

EDIT-
Also, ummm we have some semblance of a solid release date from Polyphony Digital now? (As opposed to the Q4 '09 stuff that was vague and handed out by Sony instead)

Actually its better this way. It leaves us knowing that they will have the time to smooth out any issues, possibly add new cars and implement new features.

Reading into Kaz last interview I now know we are in for a real surprise with this GT.

p.s. There is also a marketing element for this release date that shouldn't be ignored.

All this talk about being able to put more cars in etc...you are just "assuming" that based on your own expectations. The game you get in March next year will be essentially no different to what they would have released in December if they could have done. They simply did not have enough time to finish the game to their lofty requirements, simple as that.

The only good news is that it gives people time to play other games, save up for it, and potentially get a wheel and stand/seat.

Really? You sure about that? 👎

Really? Thats the only good news from the 2010 release? Nothing to do with having time to improve on things, add major tweaks, and maybe even add other aspects to the game that could of been left out? Sorry but 6 months is alot of time for vast improvements.

Short Version:
I hope Team Polyphony will take this 6 month window to improve elements that have been considered subpar by [some, a lot] Gran Turismo fans and critics for quite some time. Adding new vehicles to the line up is nice, but gameplay is much more important to keep the gamer coming back for more. First we need to improve the driving experience above all else. And accordingly, the following will and should do just that (plus or minus #4 depending on your perception).

1. Improve the physics.
2. Improve collision physics (damage/crash physics).
3. Improve the A.I. (Artificial Intelligence)
4. Improve scenery (cosmetic).

Longer Version:
I definitely welcome this "delay." Team Polyphony has, however, never formally announced a specific release date, so technically it's not a delay. From what I have read, early broken release date hypes were all due to Sony.

@ PD has more time to include great new cars in the game such as the new Toyota Celica (FT86), Opel Calibra and Ford Capri.

I don't want to undermine those who want new cars, but I truly hope the addition of new cars is not the predominant reason for the hold up. Don't get me wrong, although nice, it technically does not improve game play whatsoever. A Toyota, Opel, Ford will not make the roughly 1000 car line up any better. It will certainly not make "Gran Turismo" any worst, but it will not make it any better.

Team Polyphony needs to focus on what has long been considered lackluster in the series: (1) Physics (2) Collision/Damage Physics (3) Artificial Intelligence (4) Scenery.

Improvements in these areas will enhance overall game play, and finally quiet critics and oppositions.

Another 6 months of having a life :)

:sly::sly::sly:
nice the last sentence.....

PD is like Blizzard. They take their time, because they only want to deliver top quality. So I dont mind if they delay their games, because this can only mean improvement.

I rather have a polished game stuffed with things the developers wanted included, than a rushed buggy game.

So yes, think positive. :)

Can't agree more. From what we have been told by PD, or seen from videos, it looks like they are paying full attention to those aspects of the game. The 6 month time period they have until release is a great ammount of time to fully improve, adjust, and tweak those issues.

We haven't lost 50 cars as the original features sheet 950+ cars, the (+) means there's going to be some more cars say about an extra 30-50 cars which would bump it up closer to 1,000 or a bit less.

I am happy in a way that GT5 will not be released until next year as it gives me a chance to explore other games on the PS3, one of these being a game I am personally anticipating - Uncharted 2.

First post updated. Best ones in posts # 7 and 13. Keep them coming and please stay positive 👍

It works out good because now I will be free to play Dirt 2 and Brutal Legend all I want.

Actually, most of the negative vibes have already dissipated. Most of us are happy that the time spent on GTPSP will now be recouped, and we'll get an even better GT5 as a result.

The thing I'm looking forward to are news of a livery editor, a beefier Career Mode that's more like a career, and additional race courses.

I think its a good thing that they take the time they need to release a product wich they (and Kazunori Yamauchi) are happy with. If PD had to release a product that feels unfinished or rushed, we would not be happy.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue allready showed how superior GT5 will be in certain areas, like physics and visuals and GT5 will most likely improve on every aspect of the Prologue. Iam very confident that GT5 will be the king of racing games again, just like every game in the series.

I hope they use the time to iron out some bugs and make the game as perfect as possible.
But Kazunori Ymauchi said, that there are some features they are still working on and some that are still not in the game, because they did not yet decide if they should be in the final game or not. Among these is the inclusion of day and night cycles and weatherchanges and if they manage to put them into the final product it would be awesome.

I see myselfe driving the new SLS AMG on the Nordschleife through some heavy rain during the night. This would definately be the best thing they could possibly pull off. Nightdriving alone is something that the competition just cant deliver and the number of cars on track combined with the superior physics and the outstanding visuals will make GT5 the definitive racing game, hands down.

Iam looking foreward to March and i hope my exams are over until GT5 releases.

Personally I'm glad GT5 isn't being rushed out to compete with Forza 3 or other racing game which is a good thing....it demonstrats to me as a PD fan, car/motorcycle/motorsport enthusiast, and gamer that they care more about a high quality product than a rushed producted. In fact I personally see the 2010 date as a blessing in disguise because as they say patience pays off.

In the end though its shame most developers don't have the same kind of perfectionist work ethic as PD.

Three things i hope are included:

Livery Editor
Improved sounds
More realistic collisions

I wonder if some people ever read before they post:

THIS IS NOT A WISH LIST

👎

even if Forza is winning all the awards right now, at least GT has more vision for the future. It is like they are not just targeting to create GT5 but they are targeting a GT game beyond the simulation games of today. It is like Gt5 next year is GT6 prologue on terms of quality and ambition. It is like next gen at once for Gt next year.

And also i love there vision for future cars by including tesla, electric cars because in the future we will not rely on gas. Forza is short sighted and still using cars which rely on gas

What is it then? Parts of it read like a wish list to me. "Gives them time to include cars like....", "Gives them time to tweak this, tweak that". Sure, not everything in your post is a "wish" for the game, but several are bound to share similarities.

Uhuh, and where does the electricity come from that the Tesla uses? What energy was used in the materials used to make the Tesla?

A future vision? Yes. The future? No. Major selling point over Forza 3? No. They are only cars, and cars that they can include via DLC if they want to. More importantly, they got Forza 3 out this year - now that's forward thinking.

don't forget the release date is not delayed it is just later than everyone wanted it to be as no official release date had already been announced before!

But they did say that GT5 would be released soon after the PSP version. That's what i've been told...

Yes, lets be super positive.

This sums up this post: My dog died yesterday but at least i don't have to walk him anymore.
