Burammm
I'm quite far in GT5 at the moment, but my playtime with it is limited since my PS3 is hooked up to the living room TV, which I have to share with my wife ofcourse.

That's why I'm now hooking up my old PS2 to a secondary TV and my old Driving Force EX so I can get back to GT4 again.

I'm actually considering starting a new, fresh GT4 career. Is there any way of doing that without actually deleting the old savegame (or can I back up my old save game in case I get remorse)?

Well, I restarted once I got to 100%. I had a second memory card, so I used the ps2's Operating System Memory card management to copy my original save over, and started a new save on one of the memory cards.

This can lead to cheating by buying cars from your old savegame. Willpower will overcome!

Well.. once I unlock the Capri Rally, I can win the Toyota RSC over and over again to fund my car shopping sprees... :sly:

So no need to do a lot of cheating! 👍

You can backup your old savegame using a maxdrive (if you can still get hold of one), but it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a second memory card if you don't already have one.

I wouldn't call it cheating. Buying cars from a second memory card does still cost credits, and you don't get the colour choices like you would if buying new.

Go for it. I restarted before, made me a better player :)

Continuing from where you left off puts you straight back in where you were at. Starting again gives you the (dis)pleasure of having to go through all the licences, missions and beginner races again. Repeating all of this will either make you a better player, or distress you to the point of giving up depending on your abilities.

Do it, I'm having much more fun on my second run-through. Especially now that I'm using a steering wheel. Just buy another memory card and put your new save on that.

I'm lucky in as much as my PS3 is the launch model. So i can create a new virtual memory card. So I restarted my experience with 4 again. Personally,I enjoy the license tests and the missions. To be honest they are a major part of the game to me. Wish they had missions in 5. Not the silly events. But if you go back to a ps2, then just buy another memory card. They cheap enough.

I would classify some of the challenges in GT5's special section to be the equivalent of GT4's missions. They're just given a different name. The Top Gear challenges and AMG driving school are a couple examples. Jeff Gordon's school also has us drafting other cars for money and points, which is similar to some later GT4 missions (I forget which numbers they are, but you know what I mean).

True. But you know what I mean. The more I play 5 the more I want to play 4. 4 felt more.....I don't know, user friendly?

Sure, I know what you mean. I want new stuff though personally. :D But I'm still coming back to 4 plenty.

Restarting GT4 was the best thing i've done in all of the GTs. Especially if you've got 100% on your last save. It gives you room to experiment and choose a different path (as in buying a different starting car then last time, or doing all the licenses first) to go through the game. My very first start on GT3, I bought a Toyota Yaris and sold it because I thought it was a piece of crap, turns out I was the piece of crap for selling it, since I wasn't able to buy another car. :ouch:
