After the huge response i got from my first report, i am pleased 2 be writing another after another struggle with a huge RWD behemoth.

Chrysler 300C '05

A month ago, i was constesting the Stars and Stripes competion in my 18 year old 535 BHP Buick GNX. The NOS'd, OHV V6 was a gem, and pulled the square-cut beast to 2 wins at the first two races, and nearly got me the final at Infineon. That wa,s until the Shelby Series 1 and Pontiac GTO that were racing behind couldnt take being beaten by something that looks like it should be at the nearest Demolition Derby, so i was shunted onto the grass by both in turn, and subsdequently came third. So i was in a rage, naturally (!) and soona fter, sold the GNX.

However, today, i was bored, so i was cruisin the States lukin for a Good Ol' Boy to unleash on the two bad losers in their Shelby and rebadged Vauxhall Monaro respectively. After searching in vain, i decided to stop by Chrysler, and the huge 300C sedan caught my eye.

Engine: V8 OHV
Capacity: 5700cc
Power: 340BHP
Weight 18xxkg.

I have seen this big retro-styled beast on Top Gear, and seeing as it had a big HEMI V8, i decided to buy it, in black for the suitable menace feel. I know that it isnt the most accomplished handler, and based on the old E-class Merc platfrom, is no spring chicken either. Despite this, i welcomed him into my home. Took him to LAs Vegas and he recorded, with a fabulous V8 growl, a respectable high 13 seconds. However, this big hefty sedan needed a tune-up, so i upgraded everything execept the exhaust, as i wanted to keep the V8 sound. I also felt that he looked a little too sober, so like the infamous SL600 of the past, he got a makeover:- BBS rims and a huge black spoiler.

Power: 570BHP
Weight 1590kg.

Now, not feeling v.confident, and wondering whther the 300C would turn out to be another sulky teen from the DaimlerChrysler children's home. As a sulky teen myself, i tend to attract that type of car.i took him to Infineon raceway, where my old enemies the GTO and Series One were lining up. Naturally, the lumbering saloon was sneered at, so when i was cruisng behind the pack, waiting for the rolling start, my heart was pounding. Lights turned green, and the torque of that humongues HEMI pulled the beast straight past the backmarking Viper, the Mustang and took me to second place right up the first hairpin where i had to brake almost to a standstill to actually turn the wretched beast. Also - these AI cars play dirty! I was bashed from behind onto the gravel about four times! Rest assured i fought back!

It was a boat, exactly how i;d feared he would be, despite playing with weight blacning, Brake Balance, LSD and suspension. I exited the race after the 300C folded his arms and stormed off to his room, and went to change the settings. Final drive now maxed at 5.000. Started race. Same old story, except he was much more responsive, and by lap 2 i had pulled a lead. However, clearly the sore losers were plotting a repeat, and sure enough, as i was climbing the fisrt hill at the start of lap 3, the 300C was throwing a temper tantrum to rival one of mine (notorious in my house! LOL) and spun out. Luckily he scrabbled back out, but the lions, headed by the sore loser in his Shelby S1 S/C, were closing in. 300C threw another tantrum on the long downhill straigh and spun. Panicking, i tried to get out, but the 2nd placed car, now a white Camaro, smashed me straight in the grass again, and soon i was trailing a very distant 6th. Managed to overtake the 5th place GTO to get a lousy 5th.

I took the 300C aside and told him that if he didnt pull his finger out, he would be marched straight back to Chrysler. He broke down at that point and begegd me to tune him properly. So i went back to retry and set the brake balance to a higher rear bias, stiffened the springs a bit more, reset the weight balance to 0, and was once again on the Infineon tarmac. After some heated battling, i managed a 4 second lead, and although the 300C threw a tantrum again on lap 2, i managed to keep the lead, because FINALLY, it was turning corners! So i was grinning as i crossed the line, 10,000 CR in my pocket, and even the 300C was smiling. Not only that, a pretty neat Camaro LM was also mine.

However, disappointment followed when the Camaro sounded more like a Gran Turismo 1 Nissan Silvia than a V8,but as i still need to beat the US GT races, and I cant be bothered to save up to buy a Chaparral or Ford GT, he is staying too. At the moment, the 300C is still in my care, but if he carries on behaving like he is, he is going back to Mopar!

Well, what do you think? Sorry again for the cornyness!

That was a good read. What a nice way to personify the cars, it makes the story more interesting. That sore loser with his Shelby sure got his back handed to him in the end. 👍

 Don't usually like having to tune so much to win, but I don't blame you with that boat.
