Which is kinda sad because of how much work was put into it and how long we waited for it. Also for IGN to give it such a low score was a slap in the face especially since he didn't even play it while he was out, he only played it in his office and compared it to a home console experience.

I still love it, and Im sure most of you do too since this is gtplanet but its kinda sad that the hype died so quick.

I don't consider this as the hype went away. Its like a cellphone, when your bored, you start playing games on it. For GTPSP, it's that, but 10x better.

Died quick? I play GT PSP about 8 month - i never play any game as long as this game. And i still play it. And since GT 2 PSP didnt came out in near future - i would play it further.

Not particularly much and not particularly long?
It was likely only in development a year, though probably much less than that; and we only knew about it for about 5 months before it actually came out.

So?

True. After it's hype and promotion, gt psp was highly anticipated, then the critics wrote it off. In my opinion, this is another build up to gt5, mainly because of the 'car transfer' feature that was promised. Then again, gt psp is a wayyy different to other gt games. The focus is the car collecting and sharing, and you can play it in short periods of time.

Well its almost 1 year and I still play GTPSP. finished all S level tracks and gunning for GOLD challenge completion and my car collection.
PETER is right.
The game is designed to be played on the GO. Quick races and making the most out of your cars.
Actually the lack of career mode made me become a better driver overall. I had the time to focus on track knowledge. Car behavior and driving techniques.
When I last played Gt4 i never did much focus on aspects like these but just beat opponents on races and progressing my career.
Eventhough I always end up last in WTAC challenges, i still enjoy the game!!

I sometimes wonder if GTPSP is the fastest GT to die. Heck, even the GT1/2 forums get more life than this section sometimes.

I think the reason it came and went was because we're not accustomed to a mobile version of GT. The concept is just too far removed from what we're used to with GT1/2/3/4, and it doesn't give us the same satisfaction as previous GT games. Those of us that can accept it played it just long enough to beat it or collect all cars, then move on. For those that are completely new to the world of GT, or only have a PSP, might have enjoyed it because it is one of the best racing experience on a handheld. However, I get the impression that PSP players don't visit forums much (?), so this forum gets deserted pretty quickly once the 'established' members are done with the game.

I remember Kaz once said he intended GTPSP to be a 'gateway' for new gamers to the world of GT. It's sort of an introduction to the more serious GT on home consoles. In that respect, I think it has achieved its goals.

For me, I treat it as a For-When-I-Don't-Have-My-PS3 game. I rarely played GTPSP at home anymore now, aside from the occasional blast at the 'Ring, but when I'm going out of town for a few days (so it's impractical for me to bring my PS3), GTPSP is my saviour from boredom.

No matter how you look at it though, this iteration of GT won't be a full experience. The way I look at it, there are 2 hints PD put in (or rather, left out) that indicates they don't view GTPSP as a complete GT: silver GT logo during loading (not blue/red) and lack of Moon Over The Castle anywhere in the game in all versions (the short bit at then end of the GT5 trailer doesn't count).

So yeah...it does came and went. But it was designed that way (sort of).

The game was awesome the first few days i played it.
New challenges, 2 tracks i never played before, returning cars (old Mini), etc.
However after i read all these stuff, and saw the hidden tracks, i got a bit dissapointed with the game.

Why did'nt PD enable those tracks? Why did PD put duplicates and triplicates?
Why are so many good car manufacturers removed and replaced with duplicates/triplicates no one is intrested in? Why?

Simple...i think that the game was rushed. GT PSP will barely live when GT5 comes out.

I keep reading this, but wasn't a mobile version of GT announced years ago? There was a forum here for it for a few years. We didn't know anything about it, but I would hope that PD did know what they were going to do soon after it was announced, if not before. Maybe they were caught by surprise by the timing of the release of the PSP GO.

The Mobile version was announced at 2003/2004 i think, but it was pushed behind cause PD was working on GT4, TT, GTHD, GT5P and GT5.

That game was canceled long ago, if PD ever really worked on it (which, considering it was announced in 2004 and then never heard from again, is somewhat unlikely). That game was pretty much supposed to be Gran Turismo 4 on a handheld, and it even had the working title of GT4: Mobile. Suffice to say, since it pretty much dropped off the face of the Earth immediately after its announcement while PD went on to work on several other projects in between, what little they may have had done was probably just scrapped.
This game, on the other hand, was something that Sony had whipped up so it would be ready to be the centerpiece of the PSP Go launch; and was developed basically as a cash-in for GT5 hype.

For me, this game came and went, and came and went, and came and went, and keeps on going and coming back. ;) Months can pass without me playing and all of a sudden I find myself trying some previously unknown cars on the Nurb for a few nights in a row. :)

I think GTPSP might see a small rebirth when GT5 comes out with people being able to transfer cars and all. Otherwise yeah...it already feels pretty old. I still love it and it's still my game of choice when I'm not home but it really pales in comparison to the console ones.

It does seem like Polyphony was a little rushed and got hung up on trying to make the portable version more accessible. But in the process they watered it down too much and what we're left with is a game that has a lot of the elements of a GT game - the physics, the cars, and the presentation - but none of the depth.

I would've just been happy with GT4 on the PSP.

I agree, but with the 24 hour races, no way! Even if there is b-spec. PD says the game is mainly for on the go, so i think they've done quite well.

But i agree with you about the game being rushed thing. Most JGTC cars (with exceptions like the FTO) will do identical laps on the 'Ring. Even if the NSX is faster than the 350Z, there's no areas to prove the unique potential of those cars, because they will accelerate the same and handle round corners, etc.

Yeah, those 24 hour races wouldn't be fun...if my hands cramp up after 45 minutes of playing GTPSP (with breaks), imagine how much it would even hurt driving a three hour race!

And yeah, there are a lot of issues with the A.I. Even though it's more competitive than it was in GT4 (at least against me), I really don't like how, if you pick an Enzo for example, all three other cars are Veyrons. Why not throw a ZR1 or Saleen S7 in there?

@top of this post. Yeh, why not? But the problem is, pd rushed it, so no cars have unique handling. Drive the veyron and the citroen gt round any track and it will be identical. And the saleen vs enzo thing? The veyron is in a higher class than the other cars, because its faster but it is way heavier. The enzo is in the supercar class, along with the ford gt and the slr. But sometimes they can be at the same race. Unfair glitch?

GT psp came and staid. I play it every day since its launch.

I must say that my life changed a year before GT psp arrived. I became father and I will become father in November this year if all goes like planned.

So for me GT psp is a perfect GT fix when I have some time to race.

Currently I switched to pro physics. The Motul Honda is very enjoyable with that on the Ring.

I still play it daily before I go to bed. It's really quite addictive. 1 question guys (and I probably should make a new thread about this) did Yamauchi say something about transfering cars from GTPSP to GT5?

Yes, you will be able to. But the extent of it we don't really know yet.

I'll wait until I'm well into the game before doing that, and even when I do I'm only going to bring over a few of my favorites. Earning the cars is half the fun.

It has been mentioned. But in the latest presentations from E3 and Gamescon, there was now word about it anymore.
