This might seem silly but I have a question I really want to have answered.

I've beaten as much of GT2 as I plan to do. But I am left with one question. It's probably not what I think it is but until I know for sure, I'll be curious, so someone help me end this curiosity.

The "Celica Rally Car" listed as a prize for beating the Laguna Seca 99 lap Endurance Race. What does it look like? What is it basically? It cannot be one of the Celica Rally Cars you can get normally, is it? I would hope you don't go through 99 laps of Laguna Seca and big power race cars just for that. I know that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Rally Car you win from that All Night endurance race is a special one found no where else in the game. (and after running that race around 10 times, I gave up trying to get it) So I'm left wondering what that Celica Rally Car is and there's the prize car list on the main page of GTPlanet but it doesn't have pictures or anything like the GT3 Prize Car List so.

Anyone have that car here that can tell me a bit more about it? I've always had a soft spot for the Celica line and so naturally the one Celica I'm never going to get has left me wondering quite a bit.

You cant get it anywhere else in the game - so if you want it, that blasted Laguna race will have to be redone :grumpy:

If I remember correctly it is the same shape as the '95 GT-Four. It also gets the Castrol livery (if I remember correctly) but doesnt look the same as the GT-Four, which when modded, also gets Castrol livery.

I dont race rally cars much and didnt race this one much when I had it. Sorry I could be of more help.

WELCOME!!!

I assume. Go to GTPlanet.net (The box on the top right) Then go to the GT2 section. Then prize cars and look around in there. It is a good car. I always used to use it.

Hope it helps :)

:D Yes I said I saw the prize car list on the main page but there's no picture of it and I wanna know what it looks like, that was what was nagging at my curiosity.

I was hoping it was the Celica Rally Car Pikes Peak Car but I guess it isn't, drat. That would have been awesome though and it is one of those cars that is missing from the GT line-up. It was a 95'-97' GT-Four based car but it was wider, had a huge rear-racing wing because that was what kept this 1000-HP monster (or so I heard it was that powerful) on the ground at all as it climbed up Pike's Peak. I also cannot confirm but I have heard it holds the record for the fastest climb up the hill in the history of the Pike's Peak Hill Climb.

And if anyone is curious, these are the pics I could find for it.

And an image gallery I just found complete with some of the spec information. Don't mind me, I'm just sharing for the sheer heck of it.

But over all, I was curious about what the "Toyota Celica Rally Car" that you win from the 99 Laps on Laguna Seca looked like, how much power it had, details like that.

Now I know what it probably looks like but was it any more powerful than the normal Celica Rally Cars you could get other places?

Celica Rally Car 99'? It's one of the new 99-02' Celicas? Or is it just a 99' recreation of the GT-Four models? Ha. It probably seems silly I'm so curious about this but I can't help it. All I wanted in GT2 at the time I found that car was a good Celica racer. The "Weds Sport Celica GT" is a good little car but it can only last so long. Granted it can take down most 500+ horsepower production cars easily since it is a race car with a much better transmission and all. I've also run down a 500+ horsepower GT40 with a 250-horsepower naturally aspired Celica SS-II in the Apricot Endurance Race.

But the newest redesign of the Celica (year: 2000+), if there was a good race or rally version of that car in GT2 then I missed something good, in my opinion anyway.

Mike said it looked like a 95' GT-Four though. Boy, I thought this would be a simple thing and instead it seems to be quite a mystery to everyone else too. Though I guess no one else cares about it as much as I do. :D So if anyone can tell me for sure what that Toyota Celica Rally Car looks like and the specs for it. I'd still love to have it all cleared up.

I am 99% sure it is the same shape as the Weds, as that was the last gen rally Celica made. Maybe someone else can say for sure.

I reckon the best racing Celica is the Weds. Never really been a big fan of the SS-II. To my recollection it has a 6-speed box and is relatively heavy. Never quite achieved success with it.

Edit: Doing the Apricot Enduro in a SS-II. Ouch.

 Hey, hey. I drove the SS-II because it looked cooler than the GT-Four. With the larger, flashier rear wing and the absence of the front grill that the GT-Four had. And I did rather well. It wasn't hard at all. It took me quite awhile to catch the GT-40. No question but in GT2, Apricot is definitely my home, so I'm very fast there. Horsepower was no problem for me. I don't remember how many laps it took but it was awhile before I had the GT-40 in sight ahead of me, amazing, all the other cars fell behind me in the first lap or two and it was just me hunting down the GT-40.

I don't remember when I finally passed it but it was a long time ago. When I had to pit. The GT-40 caught me and got ahead of me but then of course, it had to pit too, so I would regain the lead from the GT-40 some 5 laps later. When it was all said and done, I think the GT-40 wasn't too far behind but as Dominic said in The Fast and the Furious, "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or win by a mile, winning is winning." And I won. -- I wanted a serious challenge, something that was gonna prove to be hard but since I know and love Apricot, I knew that even with a weak car I was going to be fast. So I figured it would be just the battle I was looking for and it was. I had fun doing it, especially when you consider the vast power difference between my little Celica SS-II and the GT-40, I'm not sure how much power GT-40 had really but the maximum allowed was 591-HP so the GT-40 was probably up there passed 500-HP.

Another funny happening in that race was I was shocked when I caught him in the second half of that first wide curve, the GT-40 took that turn in a definite drift. Now, I knew you could go drifting in GT3 before I even got the game because I saw several videos. Two of which I found came from here, which is why I'm here now. Those being Bryan Heikotter's video and one from "Night Majik" -- well, then again .. I just yanked up the video .. and it says "Majik & Guffen", dunno if that's the Night Majik guys from this board or not. The main car featured is the Subaru Impreza LM Race Car, doing many high speed, very impressive drifts.

But in GT2, I'm amazed to see Drifting videos from this game, I'm sure it's old news to you guys but to me the entire time I played GT2, grip driving seemed to be utterly the only way to go. I can feel the swing in the cars in GT3 that would make drifting possible but in GT2, no such feeling exists, it feels utterly impossible to me. So it's wild to see there are drift videos for GT2. I'm gonna find one and download it some time tonight if I get a chance.

Alright. I guess that wraps up this conversation, thanks for the information. If that Rally Car has 569-Horsepower. That sounds like one wild Celica. Too bad I'm not willing to drive 99 Laps on Laguna Seca just to get it. That was why I asked in the first place. 'Cause I know I do not have the patience for that and probably not the skill either. I'm good in endurance races but I do not like Laguna Seca in GT2 at all. So there was no way I was gonna race there for 99 Laps. Especially since that turns out to be some 2 hours or so worth of driving with big power race cars to make it even worse.

I hear ya.

Hope to see you around more 👍 You seem like a quality poster.

It is the same shape as the current Celica out now, it's not the same shape as the Weds GT300 Celia in GT2, or the GT-Four, it does have the castrol livery, it's great drive and will keep up with many of the GT cars.

SOrry about the quality or the pic here but it's a scan from a worn tips book, heres a pic of the 99 Celica rally car in all it's faded glory.

You specs were right though for it's power, weight and drivetrain which I'll add is six speed. It's worth winning anyway.

Imagine the paint scheme of the Corolla Rally Car/Castrol Supra, and splashed over a '99-'04 style Celica, and add the big rear wing of the XYR Celica, and you have a pretty good idea of what the Celica Rally Car looks like.

You also don't have to do 99 laps, only 50 in the Laguna Seca Endurance Race (you compete against JGTC/GT500 cars). You have to complete 90 laps in the GT3 version of the Enduro (which is obviously 40 laps too many).

Yeah, but is it in color?

Searching on the web truned up nothing, leading me to beleive the Celica Rally Car ('99) should be filed under FTO LM and the del Sol LM car....

Here's a color shot:

 One thought comes to mind: "DOH'!" So there is a worthy 99'+ Celica in GT2! What do you know about that. But still, no, I just turned on the game and it's "200 Miles at Laguna Seca", it's not 99 laps though, it's 90 laps. Too bad my gameshark doesn't work or I would force the game into handing over that Celica Rally Car. Well, thanks for the definite confirmation, my curiosity is officially satisfied! :D

wait a minute. did those pics come from a gt2 guide that came with Play magazine issue 80 and has a gt1 guide in the back of the book? it has an engine cover on the front with the gt symbol and Gran Turismo 2 stamped on it. is that the one?
