Throttle display in Replay and B-Spec - what's the red part indicate?

In these displays, the throttle pedal position is displayed right next to the brake pedal position.

Sometimes it shows as filled with light grey (if the pedal is to the metal), and dark gray if not depressed at all.

But sometimes I'm seeing a red portion above the light grey, with or without a dark grey band above the red.

I'm sure there is a simple answer which will make me :facepalm:

I believe the red bit shows how much throttle is actually being used - if you watch it when you change gear it'll go fully red as none of your throttle input is being used. With TC on it usually fills up slightly too, obviously only while the TC is active and affecting your inputs.
