Thrustmaster T500RS firmware version 46 issue - any advice on updating the firmware?

Good evening Gents, I am posting for some help and advice with getting my trusty Thrustmaster T500RS updated to the new Firmware version 46. The wheels is stuck at firmware version 43, so it works with GT6 on the PS3, but it's a brick on the PS4.

Here is my issue, and what I have done so far.

My wheel is currently stuck at firmware version 43, and when i try and update it, I keep getting an error code stating "Error: time out device should had arrived in BULK. (Code: 0x34100001)". I've tried updating the wheel on 3 different Windows 10 computers with the newest driver software downloaded from Thrustmaster's support page, but again, nothing happens after I get the error code. What makes it worse is the firmware updater removes the old firmware, so I have to use this old Windows XP desktop to push the older firmware back on the wheel so it turns on.

I've contacted Thrustmaster, and am waiting for a reply on helping me with the issue. In the meantime, has anyone here experienced the same issue and figured out a fix? Any help will be appreciated, so I can enjoy GT Sport with my wheel, it's just not the same with the controller.

Thanks for any advice or tips!

I don't know if you're using USB 3.0 ports but I've seen it suggested to only use USB 2.0 ports when updating the T 500. This is what I always do and I've never had any issues updating using Windows 7. I have Windows 10 on my laptop but don't use it due to the USB 3.0 ports. I don't know if this is your issue, but it could be worth a try. :)

Wow, that makes sense, but I’m guessing there isn’t a way to back date a usb port to an older version, right?

Thanks, I’ll do some research based on your thoughts!

@FPV MIC I did some research and it appears the only way to backdate to a 2.0 USB is to install an old driver which I’m not comfortable with.

If the only way we can update the T500RS is to use old 2.0 USB ports, we’re going to be in a world of hurt as these old computers die off...for computer dummies like me anyway. ☹️

Hopefully I hear back from Thrustmaster in a few days and I will ask them the 2.0 vs 3.0 and report back. Thanks again!

I'm lucky I've updated to the T-GT, but I'll still keep my trusty old T500 up-to-date just in case, My main computer doesn't even have USB 3.0 ports so I'll always be safe. Good luck with your issue, I hope you get back to racing with your T500 soon.

Edit: Do you know anyone with an older laptop that you could borrow?

We remembered my wife had an old one, which I tried earlier today, but it was too old and crusty to even download the most recent driver, so I gave up. It looks like if Thrustmaster can’t help me, I may have to try a CrossHair or some other converter, it just stinks to have to pay another $100 on top of the PS4 and game just to use my wheel.

On another note, how do you like the T-GT? It looks awesome!

I really like it, it's a step up from my T500, but my old wheel has over 500,000 kms on it so it's to be expected. Everything is interchangeable so I can easily swap between pedal sets and the wheel itself (if I need the larger size) so I have plenty of spare parts. The transducer is also a great addition and along with my Buttkicker it really adds to the immersion. My only real criticism would be the price.
