I'm racing in the B-level Time Attack series. I hate it when I get a good lap messed up by an aggressive Bob or a Bob that just gets in my way. So, I'm wondering if I should just drive slow the first lap and let them all get out in front and out of my way, or just go for it and take my chances. Ideally, I'd like to get out in front of them, but that doesn't always happen.

I did it naturally. I even got my best times following bobs. Good way to learn a track. Don't make mistakes, find the place where they are weak and brake late. It works for me.

Difficult thing is to hold the line at some tracks but see it this way. Every time you finish you earn money. Grinding is fun :D

What i do is when the race starts i just sit there for 30 seconds. Then i proceed with doing the time attack. You very rarely catch up with the AI and it's like your own little Hotlap session.

Best way to do it guaranteed :)

That way you loose some time because you dont draft... I tried it and Im allways faster following them...

I'm the complete opposite.

I'm faster running by myself.I'm familiar to Hotlapping and i used to be a Hotlapping freak on Forza 2 and 3.

Keep up with the leader and using draft on the straight to gain speed and pass him is a very good technique to gain some time assuming you don't mess that next lap at some point :D

I've found that leaving Bobs alone is bad because they can put down some serious lap times when they have no competition

I'm still conflicted. If you can use Bob to your advantage, without him messing up your lap, running with him is better. But, when he messes up that perfect lap...:ouch:

Advantages to staying away from Bobs:
1. No worry about Bob hitting you or getting in your way

Disadvantages:
1. No drafting
2. Can't follow Bob's line
3. Lose time out of your 5 minutes, may get one less lap

I tried doing that a few times (get behind to nail a perfect lap) but some of the bobs keep crashing and ruinning my laps anyway...

You can't be in middle of the pack. If you want to follow a bob its only you and him. Often you'll see its easy to pass and you go your own way staying alone.

In the process of catching the lead Bob, you'll do your lap, eventually; and if you can pass him, worry about clean laps. He'll stay way behind you that way and you'll get your lap, eventually :D

I usually just stop as well, but not before I have made an attempt at making my way up the field on the first lap. If I get stuck or in an accident, then I wait for everyone to get away and then start from there. I think the advantage gained from drafting Bob is negated by the fact that sometimes they enter corners really slowly, and if you have to pass them then you end up losing time, which in turns ruins your laps.
