As you note it is car dependent, but in general, stay in the lower gear unless you hit the limiter.QUESTION:
Sometimes there are parts of the track where you just barely have time to upshift right before you have to downshift again.
In other words, you are heading to a corner that you take in third gear, but just a little little bit before you get there, your RPM are high enough that you can shift up to 4th, but then you will have to shift back down in like 2 seconds.
My question is, in general, should you try to stay in a lower gear and don’t bother shifting up, or should you try to take the opportunity to upshift when you can?
I know there are a ton of variables like car and track etc but I’m just asking as like a general rule of thumb.
Hopefully others will chime in, but it all depends on the car and track. The easiest way to see what you probably should do is watch one of the faster replays and see what they're doing.QUESTION:

Thanks. As you note it is car dependent, but in general, stay in the lower gear unless you hit the limiter.
In general, I'd say yes. But I don't think you'd need to upshift earlier on the RPM's, it's just since gravity is helping you accelerate faster, you're going to get to the optimal RPM to up shift sooner than you would on a flat terrain.Thanks.
Side question, when going down a hill do you upshift sooner since gravity is helping out the engine?
@AE-Drifting Here you go.Will do. It may take me a while; with the new way I scrape data I need to recreate a way to do personal stats; but I'll get it over to you in the next day or so.
Easy Gold with 0:51:710
👽 : "You know that......"
: "One other word and you know where in what place I will put your wheel or controller !"

with which car?I'M IN GOLD.... I'M IN GOLD....I'M IN GOLD.... I'M IN GOLD.... 0:52.034
Now, let's chase the Viking and get under 0:52
Agreed.Interesting pair of TTs...
...and perhaps no better example of a TT that favours wheel users and one that doesn't.
The first one at BB is so much easier with the wheel, as one might expect. The other, at Lago Maggiore, seems to be pretty even in terms of controller v wheel for me; I got my best time with the wheel, but only improved on my controller time by a couple of tenths... the BB TT was like day and night.
Suprawith which car?
That’s exactly why I’m avoiding using it for awhile. Decided to see what I could do with a car nowhere near the top. Had to scroll seven pages to see the first RCZ so it was the winner.I can see why the Supra is used by more people in the new TT; shaved around 3 tens off my 911 time.
