Some confirmation about tyre temp. It takes about one lap, at least for me, to get in the window.

I actually didn't test what happens if one restarts. I guess it restarts from cold tyres, but cannot proof it with this.
Front left peaks are always related to the long right semi-circle turn.

@Tidgney, out of curiosity, if you are willing to share...
the telemetry of your record lap also starts from cold tyre temp. Is it really what you did, or it's another wrinkle of the telemetry shown by GT7 in replays?
From all the testing I've done after lap 3 the car becomes slower but it's weird (I think). So I think you get more slip on the colder tyres which allows the theoritcal lap to be quicker because Gran Turismo is very much the understeer simulator so you can get more rotation when they are colder. As they warm up you end up with more grip and in that situation it understeers more but has more grip on exit.

Yeah I agree with your statement that it takes around a lap, sometimes 2, to get the tyres up to temperature. I have also found that after anywhere from 4-6 laps you start to lose performance due to your tyre temps getting too hot. Perhaps it is as @Tidgney says and you have more grip which results in more understeer.

For me I have found that RH tyres start to lose performance once they get over 90degC.
RM is around 85-88degC and RS is even less again at around 85degC.

Myself, I still find that I get my best performance on that first lap. I can run multiple laps in a stint to the point where I cannot keep up with the ghost anymore, will then restart and on cold tyres beat the ghost easily.
 
Another 45 minutes at St Croissant, another 4 tenths improvement, yay! :dopey:

This is much better than what I could have hoped for going into this TT, so normally I could happily move on ... if it weren't for the dangling carrot that is the optimal time which I am sure PD have implemented out of pure evilness. So look at this:

The funny thing is that my PB (see lap below) is actually faster than this optimal in every single sector except S5, which I blew completely (24.894). So if I do the math, it could have been a low 2:39.6xx. 😱

So yeah, I can't leave like that, can I?

 
@crome Wow, amazing time. I bet you won't come back to this one ever again. It's funny how most people refer to St Croix as St. Croissant because it's so twisty and confusing like a maze. I have to be extra careful when I'm far back from my TV not to hit the wall or run into the grass. I have to stand real close to it to see what I'm doing because I quit using the assists (driving line,braking area,etc).

@CosmicMinster welcome to the TT club, glad you could join us on this journey.
 
Wasn’t going to run this one, but gave it and go and the car is much better than I’d thought it was going to be.

Unfortunately I’ve done very little running at this track so no idea where I’m going. Should be a second plus in this as my braking points are all over the place and I’m still very tentative on the throttle in certain places. Time to watch some replays. :cheers:

I wonder how the aliens can even get through St Croix so fast. I know most of them have wheels and seat set-ups but there are controller users thar have set insane records too. I still think a big factor in how well a person does is dependent on their age and how many years of racing experience they've had.
 
Hi,

After many laps - many more than I usually manage - I have, somehow!!!, squeezed a 1:34:2xx out of that infernal GTR at Nurburgring. I have cajoled, caressed and cursed this hideous vehicle enough now. No more! My nerves and blood pressure can't take anymore.

IMHO that is the worst car / track combination we have had thus far. At 2.56%, I am hopeful that it will hold for gold.

Welcome to stuff up Sunday...
I did some laps around Croix and got to know my own Genesis Event Horizon a little bit better, I also got better in stuffing up the chicane after the bridge.....with a fastest split of .843 on the bridge, but did hit the wall on exit chicane after that 🙄🙄
Then could not glue is all together anymore just to many sectors to stuff up with a rocket spaceship, I still have a lot of problems on the throttle mid corner, I see somany tidy steady laps and when I look at mine I'm loosey goosey all the way 🤣

Did better my time in the end finding almost half a second, but a 39 is definitely possible if I have one clean lap 🤣🤣

@crome nice lap mate! And again very steady!, I tried running a few laps with TCS on this morning but had the feeling it was holding me back in every corner, but if I look at your lap it just doesn't seem to have any negative effect on exit speed 😁🤣🤣

Thanks mate, really means a lot coming from you, I will cherish every minute I manage to stay in front of you 🤣

Regarding TCS, I guess it is holding me back a little bit, but the effect is more than offset by the increased stability, especially on such a long track. I mean these little slips you have at around 20 seconds into the lap and then again at 53 seconds probably cost more time than the combined penalty of TCS for every corner. And I would have a lot more of these slips than you if would go without TCS, so for me this is a worthy trade-off. 🤣
 
St. Croix Time Trial with Genesis X VGT, two advices for you ninjas if you haven't already figured it out. Car is very powerful so I try to replicate how Formula one drivers are taking turns in real life races, so late Apex and then feed the throttle so you don't lose the car with too much throttle on exit. Images here under for easier understanding what late Apex means and what feed the throttle means, (so don't floor it on exit until car points straight otherwise you will lose it). You can also try to enter most of the turns in third gear and exit in fourth, can help if you have wheelspin on turn exits.
Totally ruined S1, best was .5 but often is it .6 so more time for chasing. After initial irritation this one grow to be a nice TT.

A 40.1 is definitely not a bad time mate, maby ill try again tomorrow 🤪
There should be enough time on the table left seeing people hit 39 's like it's nothing 🤣
But it is just such a long lap, and I must say, not the easiest one the pad ( but probably not on the wheel to ) 😉

That TCS feels kind of weird, and a couldn't realy get the hang of it, so I think I'll keep wrestling my way though, but indeed those slippery moments cost a lot of time! Maby too much in the end 🤣🤣
 
Quick session this morning. As predicted, lots of time found over my 41.6 yesterday and picked up 0.75 on a clean lap, but lost three faster laps than this by a few pixels 😠
Optimal splits are encouraging though from the laps previous to my best

Guys, based on what @Barareklam posted, is it fair to say that "late apexes" is somehow the same of "square turns"?

I wonder if it is, because seeing the picture in his post I realized that most of the time I do the blue lines (late apex) instead of breaking and bringing the car to a tight line (that should be the racing line?)

For example, the beginning of sector 2 at Nurburgring Sprint with the GT R R35 and the last turn with the Vette at Dragon Trail were two instances I kept doing what I believe it is a late apex, because I tend to have a hard time to brake and bring the car to a tight line.
 
Late apexes are taking the later turn in, the apex is the smoothest line.

Squaring a corner off is like a late apex but you typically do it in tighter corners to create almost a V shape entry.

It's more common in motorbike racing to square a corner off because the mid corner grip is less.

In racing you can also take the early apex which sets you up for the inside out switcheroo or the late apex that sets you up for the outside in switcheroo.

Late apexes are particularly powerful when corners lead to long straights.

We use our noddle and right foot/finger...

Edit: you are asking the wrong thing here.

"How do I utilize more power?" Grip is a constant, so what you do is just drive the car normally and utilise the power on the straights. It can't physically corner faster (grip) but it can go fast in a straight line.

Every and I mean every car has more power than grip. Even the 95hp panda.

So the question really does become how do you maximise the finite grip with this much power?

I'd probably focus on straight line or exits because HP doesn't mean it corners faster.

I always try to brake late to clip the corners better but half the time I lose control and spin out, I normally have to brake extra early which slows me down and then I lose valuable time. Maybe I should take @Barareklam 's advice and study more about late apexes and how to use them to reduce my time even more. Lol, I study some of the top driver replays over and over and can never keep up with their driving lines and braking points. I wish there was a slo-mo option.

Jesus christ, the Nissan GTR TT... I finally pushed myself to try it out for the first time, and spent the first hour just baffled, how the hell is this car handling, it has a mind of its own... Kind of understood it after a while and a grueling 270km session, I'm at 1:33.301, which is OK I guess, optimals are in the 32s, so I need to push further.

And my left leg is completely dead from the load cell, I'm finding myself pushing the brake pedal with around 1.5 tonnes of force because this just won't stop, and there is no need, it's just in my mind :D We'll see, this can go into the 32s and I'll be very happy with that, if it happens...
 
Closing out the weekend with a final session in St Croix, and actually managed to dip below 2:40. Woohoo!

As I often do after reaching a significant goal set for myself, I did a final "victory lap" after this. It's funny how these often turn into my best performances. My state of mind changes, the tension is gone, endorphins are doing their thing, and sure enough I left the bridge with a 1:51.5 split, well on track for a 2:39.4xx lap time ... but of course I totally butchered S5 again with a 24.9, which was still good enough for a 2:39.9. In other words, there is already a new carrot dangling in front of me 🤣

I guess I will take a break for a couple of days and then decide if I try to attack again depending on both the global and my friends board.
