Guys, I did another thing.

Amazingly, my stubbornness paid off :D

But man, what a struggle. This was the hardest fight for gold in a long time. Although in the end I almost enjoyed it if it weren't for the starting position shenanigans you have to do.

Now can we please close the chapter on dirt TTs for the foreseeable future? Thank you! :)

Guys, I did another thing.
Thanks, @A_Higher_Place! I was getting ready to post my lap which I felt was pretty good after gaining over 3 and half tenths on my previous best. Then you post your alien lap right before me, making mine look like poop! :grumpy:
Now I’m beginning to think I only got a good time because all the aliens were asleep.😀

Now I feel pressure to see if I can improve and get my sub 1% again as I’ve slipped out of that now.

Lol

Especially considering using directional and X/O buttons in one case, if I'm not mistaken?
I'm not sure of @TheNormsk's setup, but I used the directional buttons up until GT Sport and made the switch from X/O to triggers at the end of last year (during the Shelby Deep Forest and Gr.2 Fuji TT's). Also transitioned from automatic to manual for the C7 Corvette ZR1 at Watkins Glen roughly two years ago (that thing was an absolute handful going up the esses).

Looking back, it's like I was in the Medieval times. I was even in a league before that with those ancient controls. I'm not sure how I survived!

My gear.

It’s pretty nice gear except the seat is too small for me but not bad enough that I need to change it.

I’ve just spent an hour trying to improve my time but so far no improvement. I think I’ve got pressure anxiety now. I keep on nipping at the low 1:22’s but I’m not hitting the 1:21s. My optimal is 1:21.7 but that’s still slower than my current best.

I’m aiming for a 1:21.4 to get in the top 100 but I can’t find those few tenths at the moment.

My god, what a horrible car the Mission X is. I sincerely hope that Porsche choose not to build this car, and develop a deserving replacement for the 918 instead.

I'm sitting 0.001 seconds slower than you 😁 Hope our time stays in gold territory until the end!

I’ve run out of talent. I can lap in a 1:21.7 - 1:21.9 but try as I might that 0.01s I need to break into to top 100 and I can’t find it.

The last sector kill’s me. On good runs I can keep up with the top ghosts through sectors 1 and 2 but I lose it all in the last corners.

Still there is a 1:21.2 optimal in me somewhere.

Perhaps I need to step away for a few days. I think it’s sign of madness to loop the same track round and round for four hours. 🤪

The game just straight up does not allow me to cut the chicane at Catalunya as much as I see other people do it. Very close to gold but it might not happen this time. Not really a fun TT to grind for hours on end.

Pretty impressive by the way that people can be this competitive with VR. I always thought it was a gimmick but I guess they really nailed it.

The first corner at RBR and then the hard right at the top of the hill are just utterly soul-crushing. I see I'm almost out of gold already over night lol. I'm hoping the top dogs have a very very very frustrating week of trying and failing to improve their times now!

For T1 brake a tiny bit before the end of the grass on your left.

There's a perpendicular white stripe along side the curbs under the 50 mts board, this is a good turning marker. Don't be afraid to cut the right turn.

For T3, brake just after the shadows of the gantry above the track. It is important that you place the car on the left riding the curbs as much as track limits go, so you can open up the right turn.

Be patient with the brakes. Hit it earlier than you think, and hold it a little longer than you would naturally do. Patience is key.

I've found it very difficult to break into the silver times in the Porsche, it's yet another horrible experience that I really don't see myself going back to. I swear the thing sometimes refuses to turn for no reason, even when my braking and turning points remain static.

This is a good guide. It should also be added that as you line up for the apex (particularly if you cut the turn) that you gain better stability if you apply about 50% throttle before the apex and and keep that constant through the turn, then increase throttle as you start to point in a straight line again. Even quicker is to turn 45º then straight then 45º again through the turn as you can apply more power if straight for a moment.

I did a guide video further up where I explain a lot on how to drive the course for the less alien of us.

Thanks 😀

I tried to keep 50% throttle applied through some corners to mitigate the TCS work, so the acceleration would be smoother and faster. But sadly I couldn't drive with that much control, I ended up applying the half throttle way later, almost when my car were "exiting" the turns, rather than "through" the turns. In my lap, my car just rolls too much in every corner. 😅

Hence my idea that my PB at 1:22:0 is my limit, those running 1:21's are indeed fast and skilled guys.

Hats off and GG. 😎

The throttle with this one needs to be applied really smoothly and often only to around 80% until you are 100% sure you are pointing in a straight line, only then go 100%.

For the corners, getting even a small 25% can be hugely beneficial as it slow the jarring torque slip when you do ramp up power coming out of corners and also, turns 1 and 2 are both uphill corners which will slow you a lot when just coasting them.

Wow, great times at RBR, kodos to everyone, particullary to @TheNormsk who has possibly completed his ultrahuman transition.

I'm also doing great, I'm in the top 100 of my 30 friends list 🙃

Joke aside, I haven't had too much time to digest it and I haven't even screenshotted it, but should be something around 103.5%.
My area of improvement is throttle application. I'm good in progression, but need probably to anticipate its initial application. Will work on it on the next run.
