Hi,

Road Atlanta. Ford. Sports hards tyres.

Oh my goodness me! It could be that I am just very rusty after a few weeks away. It could be that I don't, quite yet, understand the weight transfer thing. It could be that I am just c**p at this kind of thing.

Having thought about it for an hour this afternoon, I have concluded that I am just c**p!

This TT will be gold and go for me. A 1:33:7xx stand me at around 2.4% off the top time. I will try again if needed but I won't enjoy it.

You folks are delightful! Quick and entertaining - Long may that continue.

Best regards to all here.

Ian.

And of course, not optimal, S1 was .200 dead, and on the previous couple of attempts I did a .087 and .085 in a row, so I still have a tenth here, possibly a low .800 lap, but that will have to be the perfect one. Unfortunately, just as I got into the zone tonight, one of the kids had a bad dream, woke up screaming, woke the second kid up, so I had to put them to bed, no more driving now, but tomorrow we chase the 800s :D

Did three more laps at the Spa track and clocked a 2'25.296. So I still have a ways to go to get to the silver club.

@Ian JB no, you're not crap, you're one of those strong drivers who can do anything with your skill levels. Just have faith and keep practicing on the Spa track. It's not a simple course for beginners and even for amateurs. I may have to start back to using ghosts to help me improve my lap times. I haven't done it in a good while, since Spring of 2024. Well off I go to Road Atlanta in the Ford Focus. It's a fun drive in that car, my cousin owned a Ford Focus back in 2007 and he said he had a pleasant ride in it. I may not be able to enter gold territory at Spa, 2'20.XXX might be a tough time for mere-mortals and normal drivers.

Nice!, congrats, that's fast buddy!
I tried some laps this morning but whaterver i did T3's just didn't do what i wanted, fastest S1 was a .190 resulting in a .288
but the feeling wasn't there this morning

The good news is I've shaved half a second off my RA time and I'm in the 2% club. The bad news is that all this tt'ing has tipped me over the edge and I'm now talking myself through the lap out loud - ease off...turn in...power down...power, power, POWER !!!

It's a good job the rest of the family were out of the house, so nobody else heard my ramblings.

Gonna have to head back to Spa now, as only in gold by 0.001! 😱

Well, it was so obvious that a close gold at spa last thursday won't hold until the end. Unfortunatly yesterday (or before yesterday) i was thrown back to silver. I decided to have another go, but just 12 laps without improvent.
Luckily i could bring myself to another go today, i'm back in gold again.

The Focus at RA will be the first TT where i want more than just gold. My first stint thursday brought me close to 32 (33.060), so i want to achiev this. Second stint today, first improvement, but still not in the 32-club.

Last week I did a first short stint at Spa and tested the three cars. With the NSX I scored one of the slowest silver times with 2:23 and sat at the bottom of my friend's board.

I love the track and knew that I could do better. I watched Tidgney's guide and got a bit nervous because this time the video told me nothing new but that I am slow. (It has been the first time as I always watch them and I usually find them tremendous helpful!)

I did watch some other laps of some golden boys here and saved their ghosts. This time it clicked and suddenly I knew how to aim for Eau Rouge and which gear to use. Of course I did also change the livery and so I am now in gold at the moment with an optimum of 2:20:3xx.

I might come back tomorrow to save the yellow metal in a final session but today already felt awesome! Thanks for your motivation, hints and support!

3rd 10 laps stint at Spa, still playing russian roulette in Eau-Rouge, so many useless laps... 50% in red.

No improvement in best lap times or in optimal, but a small one in medium lap times (did less big mistakes).

Improved a bit my last sector (nearly -0.2s)

Need to find time to repeat this TT before the end. Nearly a week since 2nd stint, but other things to do in GT7 since then. Hard to focus on TTs when there are other priorities and not much play time.

Ok folks, I said if confirmed alien @A_Higher_Place can do it, I can do it… well. What a session I had, I absolutely love this car! My PB kept inching forward and in the end my last fastest laps were both average laps just with blistering PB sectors, the first with a rapid sector 3 and then the final and fastest with a blistering sector 2; if I could hook it all together I was good for a 2:17.2 but I don’t think there are enough hours left in the universe to achieve that.. still, very happy with my time despite not hitting goal of a sub .5 :D

Might have to revisit this one more time but feels like you have to be properly ‘on it’ to get into those upper echelons. Just a smidge behind resident alien @djolliea but that’s nothing new!

Pleased with that one nonetheless, and what a car, I’m in love.

I went and checked Spa last night. Dann, new record time. Now at 2.98 %. Better try and get some cushion. Don't want to end getting booted out of Gold last second like I recently did at Tsukuba and a couple weeks or months ago at the insane Le Mans Gr. 1 TT.

I struggle the most with these kind of combos where there are a lot of high speed corners that have long acceleration zones after them. In order to bot lose massive amounts of time you have to be super precise with both breaking and throttle as well es steering and often both at the same time.

Well my persistence paid off. Broke my intentions of only doing each TT for 2 hours max total to prevent burning out but it was fun nonetheless.

After easily 400 km I finally managed to not invalidate my lap through Eau Rouge in 4 out 5 laps but rather only 1 in 3 or maybe even 1 in 5. That allowed to finally concentrate on the rest of the track.

I still struggled immensely with No Name Corner, Campus & Paul Frère (the two right handers beforethe back straight) and then Blanchimont.

Now off to Road Atlanta which is a whole nother ball game both in track but also car.

I hate the RS and Road atlanta combo, it so bizarre and doenst work for me. This is my current time, shocking!! lol

ZEE, now that I know your speed better I think you should watch Tidgney's guide and return. This one was an eye-opener for me and brought me fast into silver area. That might do it for me as I am looking forward to Daytona! See you there...

Morning folks!

First of all... @Dan_Tes congrats on the Spa lap buddy, i guess the more hours you spend up above.... the less hours you spend in the hot-seat is the way to go for you
you are fast af boooyyyy...., now please leave the focus for what it..

That said....

Focus!

So funny that each session a different corner is my nemesis, took me ages to nail T1 again and yesterday it was the easiest corner of them all for me :boggled:

This morning T3 was an absolute nightmare for me and the times i i didn't invalidate on it i couldn't get the RS rotated to T4 to grab the left curb on the esses which is kind of crucial for a good run on it.

Road-Atlanta-Track-Map.png

Then had a "gods rays - hallelujah " moment and thought.... ABS default maby?...
( standard setting is weak for me and in almost any cases that's completely fine and rotates a bit better)
well well..... that made braking for T1 a whole lot different and not for the better
but T3 felt better though, so started T1 cooking and after some restarts i did get the hang of it.

Had a descent S1 with 35.147 although not the fastest of the session but hey...what's new
T6 i missed the apex what cost me some time.
Still descent on S2 split and my fastest until now with a 1:09.351 but ofcourse my chicane was FAR from optimal and def threw away my 31 here 😂😂

But keeps beeing a lotery here, this was a lap out of way to many 😂

Soooo close.......

@Lomic @Gorefast

I recommend @Dolph Drago replay.

Its lap is very clean, its lines and gear more suited to my style.

Thanks to him, I found . 500 and enter in the 2.19.

The best are too fast for me, and I’m too far away from them in sectors 2 and 3 to learn anything and progress.

As usual, I still have a lot to improve with these group 3 cars.

Nevertheless, I think I should have gained 6,000 seats compared to my last participation at Mount Panorama, and the guys from this forum helped me a lot with that.

Finally, even if I’m slow, I took a lot of fun with this NSX on this track.

EDIT :
Congratulations @Jeje6410 @Bacchanalist @Evilmuffin @eggmann (and I forget someone), I don’t think I could catch you

Congrats to your progress! A sub-20 lap time is serious. I appreciate your tip and will try this evening for a final run.

Do you know that you can reset the ghost at every sector? This way it can help until the end of the lap. By the way, thank you all for sharing your laps! 👍

Who else is fast mr 75th in the world!?? I have a theory about the Focus, the extreme drop off in grip with the sports hard tyres is probably partly responsible; every time you go faster round a corner it pushes the entry speed for the next corner slightly higher and maybe over the limit for the tyres for that corner, moreso than with other tyre compounds.. although I’ve only done 15 minutes or so in the focus so that is really just a theory lol

If its not the •next• corner it could be that the tyres haven’t quite cooled down due to it being quite a tyre shredding track, dirty tyres seem to be quite the issue here as well for some reason..

Just FYI last night my main gains were down to using ABS weak instead of ABS normal in the NSX; I think when the trial started I read that somebody set a fast time with ABS normal and given that understeer was an issue, didn’t even consider weak; it was obvious that the fastest times were set using it given the corner entry/using kerbs for rotation everywhere but for some reason I didn’t try until last night. What a difference it makes! Only the first corner I find really tricky to get it turned in so sector 1 suffered but I was faster everywhere else; strangely less understeer than with normal. Answers on a postcard!

on the same sites where they say the earth is flat (and by the way no, it is not, Road Atlanta scientifically confirms that the earth is not flat, just look at turn 1->5) someone whispers that the ABS configuration is placebo
  no offence to the people who are in "round-earth-denial" , i don't understand how someone can just...... never mind :lol:
Placebo or not.... i'll take it!:lol:,

Yes, the focus has a big tire problem indeed!, and it took me ages to get a descent time, i'm rather happy with slidy roadcars but this one is kind of a pain in the rear :lol: and more painfull that it wasn't a 31.....:lol:
Maby i'll go again haha.

Your gains...., ABS or not... you seem to have rolls royce thrusters on each car you pick buddy 😂🙏🙏

Back to a more seriuos and (hopefully) constructive posting by me...

I wasn't 100% kidding about ABS, at least for my skill level. It happens to me here and there to "play with ABS" to see if I feel better. I actually feel better and also maybe lower my times, only to discover later on that I can get that same time with the previous ABS setting.
As far as I remember only in Daytona with the NXS I noticed a real difference in the approach of turn 1, where default (maybe??!) gave me more stability.

For sure for people like you (and all the other guys coming from Mars to show me how slow I am :irked:) may be a very different feeling :)

My take on the Focus RS @ Road Atlanta - is the suspension way too soft for what it is? The car almost flipped over when I braked for T1 for the first time

So I managed 1:32.195 fairly quickly yesterday, 0.003 off @Gomario JSP 's time (EDIT: Definitely more than 0.003 now!), though my Sector 1 is constantly 2/10th off many of you here...What is the secret of doing 35.1 sector 1? My best for the entire session was 35.298...

A touch of understeer at T6 and I was miles off apex in the final chicane too - 1:31 is definitely on the table for me but I really need to time to grind it out. If the next TT is some kinda VGT/Tokyo then I am definitely doing that.

It's much softer in feel in game than the ST I owned of the same vintage. That car was a brick on the road. My kids HATED it for that reason.

Re: ABS Weak vs Default - I am on Default all the time. Is there really differences on how they work in the game? Is it Pad only?

I think we have a different way of trailbraking into T1, I try to minimizes the squeeking and sort of gratually try to transfer the weight and sometimes even coast for quite a bit and not seem to loose on Chafe, and I do stay in 4th for T3, that seems to stabilize the car a bit more for me so you can TRY to get to the left at T4 otherwise it compromises your S'es a lot.

Looking at your lap you will prob find some extra time and kick me down 😁😁🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏

Re: ABS Weak vs Default - I am on Default all the time. Is there really differences on how they work in the game? Is it Pad only?
There is a difference but sometimes it can be very subtle.

Turn one at RA, when you are on the brakes turning to hit the apex and fire it up the hill you should notice the car is a bit more unstable and keen to go sideways. With normal ABS the car is more planted and you don't get this instability.
