Got my time down to a 47.1 with the Ford GT, I can see a 46.5 but you guys in the low 45's, honestly no idea how you do it.

For the first time with a wheel I am getting the sensation of pushing the car through the corner a bit rather than abrupt stop, that left onto the oval i can now hustle the car and carry speed rather than drop too slow, first time I have felt this on my learning journey

Ohhh man. I have had soooo much fun today. Pushing on with the Viper at Daytona. 2 Cracking sessions this afternoon. Finished the day with this...

I must have been very rusty having not been in the seat for almost a month. I even think that I am beginning to understand the "Bus Stop". My last three laps will have been just a couple of pixels away from a red lap. Great fun and I am hoping that another couple of good sessions will lower this further.

The transition from pad to wheel can be both infuriating and incredibly rewarding within seconds of each part of that spectrum. I wish you the best of times and enjoyment on that journey. It is worth every penny!

First test at Daytona :
not at all happy even if I was able to get gold with a time of 1'46'377 with the Ford. I can't do a perfect lap to hope to be in the 1'45. The last sequence before the last turn kills me every time. I tried the Viper and I couldn't do it, with the X I couldn't do it. Anyway, we'll see tomorrow.

Try the McLaren it's a fast sub meta but very stable

Yeah you know what I notice at Daytona, driving on the banking with a wheel is 1000 times better. Using the D-pad is brutal, tappy-tappy-tappy-tappy ... just impossible as you hit other people and scrub time.

In his video Tidgney suggests using MR cars, and I've seen some examples of it in this thread. Besides the Mclaren, some players here have driven the Lamborghini.

Maybe it's worth a try? By the last sequence, you mean the bus stop?

I guess the shifting there plays a role. There were posts here players mentioning "is it 3rd or 4th?". I guess it was @Gomario JSP. Myself want to find play time and check what I did in my PB and then test it out once again.

And that may vary depeding which car you use, I guess.

I'm sure you'll find (lots of) track time next session. 😎
 
Today I've binned off the dual shock 4 and I'm now rocking a g923 wheel.

So I've been reading that a wheel makes you more consistent, but I didn't think they meant consistently red lap! One minute I'm completely locking up the brakes the next I'm not applying nearly enough pressure - either way I'm flying off the track.

On the plus side, it's so nice to be able to drive in a straight line, or hold a turning angle without constantly making micro adjustments with motion steering. It also seems easier to apply the throttle out of a corner and I have way more confidence on the curbs.

So with a 1hr session at Daytona, I'm half a second slower than on the pad. If I can just work out the brake pressure and trail braking, then I hope I can soon match my pad times.

Best of all my cheapo x rocker mount has a little drinks table for my cup of cocoa - happy days! Or is it a gearstick mount 🤔

Somehow triggered by the fact that this week we have the quite extraordinary occasion to have Road Atlanta in both TT and RaceA, even though in different cars, I noticed in @Tidgney tutorials two very different ways to approach the last couple of turns before the finish line.

TT on the left:
in the uphill section he aims for the yellow dotten box line
in the downhill for the right curb
this allows to get the very last right hander full throttle

RaceA on the right:
n the uphill section he aims for the yellow solid box line
in the downhill for the inside of the rubber on the street
this is enough ge get the very last hander full throttle

In the spirit of teaching a man to fish rather than giving him a fish...
The theoretical line seems to be a mix of the two, maybe the RaceA uphill and the TT downhill, if we look at enlarging the corner angle.
What is the process that leads to the different results?

It's trial and error, just experience wisdome, minimizing the distance (RaceA), looking for the full throttle (TT)?

I'm not sure I'd been able to get the same results in term of racing line without beeing noticed of the expected result.

This is very specific to car and drive train. The Mazda this week can turn far better than the Focus so you can take arguably better lines where as in the Focus due to the way the power goes more towards the front you have to take wider lines. The Mazda is reducing distance to due to the slower speeds to so it's better to take an inside line. The general rule of thumb I go with the slower the car the tighter the line to reduce distance.
 
I guess I'll go ahead and try the Group 3 challenge at Daytona tonight. I'm not sure which car to pick first. The Corvette seems to be more stable than the Viper. And I don't find the McLaren 650S to be helpful for me at all. I'm gonna say this, Sector 3 and 4 is hard to perfect depending on how fast my speed is.

I'll choose the Corvette first and see what happens from there. There are a lot of demands for using precise braking and turning through most of the corners.

Try the Ford GT, very stable and turns in nicely. Also sounds great.
 
I needed to take a break from Road Atlanta, I had 2 sessions after my initial 31.934 but couldn't make the first sector work whatever I tried.

This Daytona TT is like a breath of fresh air :) Even though I really don't like driving here, too many bumps for a Gr3 car on RHs, too many low speed corners where you really need to manage the throttle on exit, but it is what it is.

There is still a lot of time to be found in literally every corner, I lose a lot in the first right hander, just can't get the power down early enough without spinning, and the same story is at the left hander at the exit on the first part of the straight. But it's a fun one for now, we'll see how it goes later on :)

I should be happy with this lap, but I lost multiple low 45.1's and even a mid 45.0 thanks to invalidated laps at the bus stop. And my optimal was a 44.727. This lap somehow ended up being my fastest despite sliding around like a madman the first half of the lap. I would later have a lap where I was 2 tenths up on my best after sector 3. Can you guess what happened? Yup, messed up the bus stop. Again. :grumpy:

God, please help me at Road Atlanta. The Ford Focus is a heavy car, so it's not cooperating with me on Sectors 1 and 2. 50% of the time I miss the turn where the blind corner is. I thought by keeping my TCS at 0 would help the car's corner exits improve. Feel like I'm stuck behind a gate. Can't escape the 1'36.000 zone.

It is fun watching you guys improve efficiently everyday. It gives me some enjoyment and motivation to keep pressing on.
 
Evening folks - first proper session at Daytona tonight after a quick run last night. Fantastic that BoP is working as intended here and I’ve got a few cars now into the mid to low 1:45s but this lap in the Corvette is the fastest of the lot so far. Looking forward to running this one some more over the long weekend here and this is fun enough to allow me to forget about RA. Not too shabby so far!

@skydragon49 that was indeed me 😁, I always start a TT by just driving, then after some laps I have a bankerlap then seeing insane times on the boards already, it's like I never learn to watch a guide first so most of the time I have to change a gear or 2 compared to the top guys 🤣
But in this case....... definitely 4th 🤣

It's a real frustrating one and I just can't stand the bump comming onto the bank, I have a lot of .0xx invalidated on the wall there 🤣
But in called the cavalry on this one......steery cheatmode and ABS normal 🤣 that seems to be worse for my T1 and T2 because it feels a bit sharper on the exit with it on but most of the time my "nemeses" bump is better....altho I kind of had a bad exit there on the lap below with a flat .100
Optimal was a 44.601 but that ain't happening for sure 🤣🤣

@Vule man you got it going on these days, absolutely fire buddy, I know these kind of combo's are your thing, but everything else seems to be too lately 🤣🙏🙏

That said.......Viper time...

GR3/GR2/GR1 classes is something I do struggle with to get high on the board and I if I ran these kind of laptimes beginning last year I would be absolutely happy!
This morning I booted up seeing myself still below 1.50% of the top but 12th on my own leaderboard 🤣🤣 you guys are absolutely killing these kind of combo's

So I had work to do 🤣
After some real rubber smells I finally did hit a sub 45 and I'm quite happy with it, and I even gained some spots on my leaderboard beeing at 1.12% of the top and yet only 6th on my board 🤣🤣.......evil people

Here's one thing you might try: there's a little rubber block in the G29 brake pedal spring that adds "artificial" resistance. It superficially makes it feel more like a real brake pedal, but the pedal itself isn't pressure-sensitive (like a load cell pedal), but simply measures travel. What this means is that you actually lose the sense of how much input you apply, and it sounds like that's what's happening to you.

The fix is to remove this rubber block, see here:

it certainly helped me. While you're at it, you might also think about swapping brake and clutch in case you don't need a clutch. I found that it makes the pedal spacing less awkward.

Have you tried using assists? I am using TCS 2 and CSA strong here, and have very few issues with consistency. Obviously I have still binned the odd lap in the bus stop, but not so many that it becomes frustrating.

Speaking of my own adventures at Daytona, last night I switched over from the Genesis to this beautiful machine ...

and it didn't take a whole lot of time to get adjusted. My main problem is often braking too late before T6, but on this lap everything came together very nicely 🤩 and I improved upon my Genesis time by 0.15 s. Really happy with the result, but there might even be a tenth or two more in the cards ...

Happy Saturday everyone, I'm getting ready to tackle more Road Atlanta with my F. Focus car. I hope I can make it in the 1'35.000 club today/tonight. I don't like the left turn near the blue/yellow line. I'll show a picture of which area I'm talking about. I hate it, I always veer to the right and touch the blue/yellow barrier which ruins my lap.
