Since I just started drifting recently with a wheel my best tip whould be buy yourself and all wheel drive car because it will save your sanity. I myself had a hard time learning to drift with a wheel with a FR car mainly because I kept spinning out. On the other hand having an AWD to learn with helps because the power is distributed evenly. This results in fewer spin outs. As you get better buy an LSD and gradually reduce the power distribution until you can handle an FR car. If anyone has any tips to add "Just Do It". LOL:tup:

So many people will go against this. Aside from all that, AWD acts really different than FR. Though it will be much easier if you get a stock FR and just simply add a LSD. Just because your spinning out doesn't mean its car nor the settings. Possible best tip is to practice on easy turns and do over do it with the horsepower.

I agree 100% with nk4e on this one... Get a stock RWD car with LSD and practice with that... Once you learn how to drift with RWD then you can do whatever with AWD... But the best skills and techniques will be gained through RWD drifting...

AWD drifting gives the player a false sense of "skills" when in fact the AWD car is doing all the work - not the player. AWD drifting will not properly help you learn about weight transfer, entry speed, throttle control, drift angle, etc...

OK, the thing is I never said I was an expert however I was offering some advice that I think can help people who are learning with force feedback wheels. However I do drift with FR cars and I only used an AWD for a short period to get used to the Feedback of the wheel. In the end FR cars are the way to go.👍

Tips on power

It's always nice to have 500hp but if you're starting out use something that kind of struggles (but doesn't bog in the corners) then as you get more of the feel of the car deal with more power and adapt to throttle control

Something that is N/A is probably going to help a lot more than something with a turbo (I find on a controller the S13 isn't a bad choice but it relies a lot on the turbo for power and speed)

I would say drive "properly" with a RWD car and increase the exit speed of the corner and learn to catch the car. Once you've got that you can start unsettling the balance of the car on the way into the corner and manage the speed / angle of the car throughout the whole corner.

I'd say that I only learned how to drift by pushing cars beyond their limit in normal races and collecting them up when they get out of shape - it isn't the quickest way around a track but it is a good skill to have with worn tires or when drifting.

Get a car with over 200BHP, don't go much over 300, learn to drift it completely stock with comfort hard or comfort medium tyres.
And if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
