The Honda Integra seems to have an identity crisis. It is as fast as any car in twisty tracks on one lap however, It cannot ever get the victory due to the poor race pace of the car.Honda have not won this season... Only 3 more meetings for the ageing Integra workhorse to try!
The car seems to have been designed to be competitive at low speed corners, however this also develops a higher tyre wear due to exiting with excessive wheel spin. It develops higher tyre wear also due to the understeering nature of the car. The driver must adjust set up to counter the understeer which massively increases tyre wear due to the front typically having a higher weight distribution abd the more aggressive camber settings to help turn on. This diminishes the race pace pretty quickly and leads to it understeering like a donkey with no front legs.
The Honda's only win came at High Speed ring last year. It won that race despite being better in low speed corners for a number of reasons:
Lower tyre wear
Good power
Different regulations
Slipstreaming allowing anyone to win the race in a half decent car
This combination of factors lead to an open gap into the hole of victory and so the Honda was recognised as a winning machine. The corners at HSR are at a radius which does not punish the FF drivetrain of the Integra like it is at Cape Ring Inside (However this is more to do with the Altezza than anything else). Unfortunately there are no more circuits like HSR on this calendar which makes the likelihood of another Honda victory very distant indeed.
Bit of an essay but I hope you enjoyed it .
