It's a tad premature but next March I turn 17 and like most teenagers of that age, I'd like to learn to drive. I realise that by no means will it be cheap and I'm fully prepared for the ginormous insurance premium when the time comes. I'm also thinking of taking my theory test now as it saves money in the long run and I will more than likely have staggered lessons as opposed to the one-week intensive course that I've heard about.
So, I'd really like some opinions on what I should try to look out for as a first car. Obviously it'll have to have some form of mouse running a wheel as opposed to an engine, something between 1.0 and 1.4 litres is almost a certainty. My Father does work for Ford as a Master Technician so he may be able to swing a few favours in getting something for a bit less than normal.
However, as this is only an idea, I could imagine that my budget should it not come to anything will be no more than £800. So, Mk. III Fiesta's are really what I've been looking at. But if you could recommend anything better for the price then please do share your recommendations.
