Top 'Step Up' Cars After Beginner Car?

So now that I've got a lot of the beginner stuff out of the way, it looks like I'll probably need to buy another car that can get me through the majority of the Amatuer/Professional races. Although it almost seems like there really is no good choice since a lot of these races are pretty specialized.

I mean I could use the Gamestop/CE DLC cars for a lot of these, but it would feel like I'm cheating. Any recommendations for a 'step up' car from that first used one? It doesn't seem like any of the ones I'm winning will do the job.

Erm audi r8 is always a nice car but for beasty wins you have to get the murci sv or f430 scuderia. Beautiful handling on both of them, if you win the gt world championsip you win a veyron too.

A fully tuned RX-7 bathhurst got me through everything up to and including the GT world championship and even some after.

I used the same car and then got the Lambo SV for >400K which is a great car and can do a lot of races for you. Although it cannot do the MR races because it is designated as 4WD :S

Bought an Audi S3 '00 for the Rally Events, and upgraded it quite a lot (intakes, exhaust, transmission, body weight, etc). Like most Audis it's a smooth ride, and a joy to race with. I went beyond Rally and did some ASpec races because, like you said, using supercars for the lower level ones seems like cheating. I highly recommend you pick one up.

I always buy the car that will let me do the next race, the prize money you get from winning that usually covers the cost of the car. The only decent car I have bought is the Ferrari Italia and the most useful car I have won that can do alot of races is the "Special '62"

I have one, but haven't driven it yet. Is the Buick Special still as RIDICULOUS as it was in GT4?

Where'd you get this car? I don't see it in the new car dealership, used?

Can't go wrong with AUDI. ;)

The RX-7 Bathurst is used so you have to get lucky with it. Even if you don't want to use the CE cars, I'd still use them because its just so much fun exploring their potential.

Thanks, I figured it was used. Sadly I don't have it right now. Any other suggestions for a reasonably priced car that can get me through GT World Championship tuned?

As much as I want to say don't use the CE, in some cases you are better off just using the CE cars. You get a nice Countach if you win the Lambo event. Another option is to win an S-License to get an Opera S2000.

Well I couldn't settle one one 'do it all' car, so I've bought several!

-Got the Audi S3 '02 for the rally special events. I figure I can tune this thing up pretty well to do rallys in the future.

-Found the Mazda RX7 Bathurst, and let me just say, that thing drives like a dream! I wish it was premium!

-Had to get the '69 Chevy Stingray since I'm a huge Vette fan. Figured it would help me with some of the classics races as well.

-Now I'm taking a look at the R34 V-Spec II Nur Premium, and I'm just not sure if I can resist snatchin' that baby up too!

Ferrari 512BB ‘76 will take out a large chunk of races with just the one car. Ferrari races, Italian, Classic, and MR races -- and more.

I've gone for a Z4M (60k credits) and about 40k credit spent on upgrades/tunes. I'll use this for the top end of amateur and most of expert. Then upgrade to a full blown super-car after that.

As Sum1s2pid said the 512BB '76 is a joy to drive. So much fun using the power to slide through tight corners. Well worth the 100k ish it costs to buy.

It's a steal at 102,500 credits -- more than pays for itself in the end, even if you have to spend a little bit more for a few upgraded parts.

That does look very cheap indeed, however I heard some complaints it's god awful to control, thoughts?

I say go for a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 it will more than pay for itself after you win some expensive events and fully tuned it puts out over 700bhp so will keep up with proper racing cars with ease ;)

512bb can be a bit of a handful... Tends to get loose under braking, and have to be careful when you step on the gas.

I reckon a good tune would probably settle it down a bit, probably needs a change in suspension and possibly an LSD, But I've not tried too much yet... Anyone else?

Thanks, I'll see if anyone has already come with a setup that diminishes that problem in the tuning section.

Softer tires, an adjustable suspension, and some front brake bias help rein it in. Other than being mindful that you're in a classic MR, it's mostly very solid and manageable. If you find you need more power, I'd suggest the cheapest upgrades first (air filter, CPU, etc.).

Subaru Impreza Sedan STI, latest one.

Its an absolute deamon once fully modded, 500 HP but handles like an Exige, amazing acceleration, can be used nicely for the rally events too. Its actually an unfair car.

Found a Tommy Kaira ZZII 4WD 500hp+ stock for around 55k. With everything tuned its 740hp & 910 kg but has a lot of understeer, but it can be solved by adjusting the suspension, aero, etc.

My maserati gran turismo s is caning everything, good car.

With you on that one... awesome car to slide ride the cobbled streets of Rome!!!

My actual second car after my little black Glanz was one of those purple Skyline GT-R (R34)... 717Hp, drives pretty well, cost 40-50k I think... easily wins against lambos, etc.

Favorite suprise in a car has to be the E-Type Coupe... its just under 400Hp, and is sooo easy to drive... even drifts corners during a race with ease. :)

The RUF used to be a great car in previous GT games... any good in GT5??

Only been able to get my hands on the RGT, but it's quite nice in GT5 -- less understeer and a much better exhaust note.

Christhedude has video of him in a Yellowbird, and it looks as frightening as ever.
