Torn Wire

Had my DFP since christmas (although I had a sneaky go during December :D). It was working perfectly, until last weekend were I noticed that when I paused the game and went for some refreshments it suddenly came out of the paused mode and inevitably slammed into a wall, which (of course) I was not best pleased about. After a while I noticed that it was the brake pedal that was giving me problems, and on inspection I realised that the wire from the pedal-base the the wheel was torn. Unfortunatly the base that I used to hold the wheel was an old bedside cupboard, I had completly forgot that the wire was pressed against the back of the old cupbpard and from regular slamming of brakes and accelerator had completly torn the wire.

The basic question is, how do I resolve this?
Can I request a replacement from the shop I bought it from? (Was an online shop, and I still have the order number etc. and all the packaging) although would have to quite 'leaniant' on the truth and maybe say it arrived like that?

Can I recieve help from Logitec itself?

I was thinking of just taking off the coating of the wire and simpily (for lack of a better word ... and spelling :boggled: ) re-wiring it. Leaving a slightly shorter wire.

Thought I'd ask here before tinkering with the thing.

And no comments on the stupidity of having the wire in such a position! I know it wasn't a prize winning location.

Cheers,
Jack.

Torn Wire <-> Worn Tire .... cool!

As for the DFP... I dunno if warranty would cover that... you could call the online store first with your "arrived like that" story... and if that doesn't work I'd try to re-wire (if all the wires in there weren't too small)... it'd be a good time!

It should be no problem to cut the turn part out, solder the wires back together and wrap each of the soldered wires in some insulating material. If you can get your hands on some heat shrinking sleeves that would be perfect. Only thing is that if the wires are all the same color don't forget to attach some kind of sticker to each end so you know what goes where.
