Torque upgrades

Why is it that after I upgrade any stock car the torque always seems to go down to under 100 ft/lbs and the Torque to weight Ratio is always below 1? I'm struggling with the Beetle Cup and even though my car has more horsepower than the others, its torque is ridiculously low and I can't seem to keep up with the other cars?

Did you know that they never converted the torque properly? They did this wrong in GT2, as well. In effect, when you're looking at your torque in the garage, what it's showing you is in METRIC terms. To convert, follow this fomula:

35 "kilos per meter"

multiply this by 2.204

multiply again by 3.28

What's happening is you're converting the metric kilograms into pounds, and then you're conveting that figure into foot-pounds (a measure of twisting force)...

35 x 2.204= 77.14

77.14 x 3.28= 253 ft-lbs.

Also, which beetle cup are you doing? Beginners or Amateur? Are you driving a New Beetle 2.0, Cup Car, or RSi?

I think they got it right in GT4...torque conversion I mean. I forget if it's in metric or standard, tho. GT1 is the only game in which there are no technical mistakes with torque or ground clearance from dealer to garage to track!

When you upgrade your engine, the mods will affect your torque as well as power. Often you'll find to get higher power up top, it can take away from your torque down low. The setup of your engine - cam profiles, fuel, ignition, boost (if you have forced induction) will be optimised to one part of the engine range. An engine set up for big bottom/mid torque may not have as high a rev range, or as much power up top, while a very peaky engine will have a high rev range with high power up top, but often at the expense of bottom/mid-range torque.

If you are experiencing problems with this, then I would recommend resetting your gears. If you've set the car up for higher power and it has cost in terms of mid-range torque, then you need to narrow your gear ratios to keep your engine in its powerband. To compensate for the loss of top-end speed, you can adjust your final drive.

Again, it depends on which of the cars you are using as well. A fully modded Beetle RSI should tromp the competition, but one of the New Beetle Cup Cars or the standard New Beetle might not be as easy. Still, I ran a Beetle cup car second time around and it won fairly easily. You may also find that your car settings are not optimised for the track - if you lose too much speed on the corners it can be very hard to keep up with the competition. My advice would be to check what kind of times the AI cars run, then take yours out for a free run and adjust your settings until you can consistently beat that time. Then you're on a winner.

I'm still waiting to hear which car Deathmogul was using, too. He must have finished the Beetle Cup by now otherwise he'd be back asking for more advice.
