I've been wanting to try and write one of these race reports for a while now so I'll try it on a short but very fun and tough race. I wasnt going to write about this race at first but as it unfolded things got rather interesting...

To start things off, I just won this Toyota 88c-v the other night. brand new. no oil change. Only thing I did was buy R1 and R2 tires. I fitted the R1s to the back and the R2s to the front and went racing.

The field was made up of a Sauber C9, Nissan R89, R92 and R390 and a Camaro lm. only a 7 point race but i'm not doing it for points.

The race starts normal and I pass up to 3rd by lap 2. I'm having trouble with the rear end staying inline in turns 3 and 4 but I can still handle it. I'm slowly making up time on the lead. I pass the sauber on lap 4 coming out of turn 2. the R89 falls soon after in the same place. I now start slowly making a lead for the first pit stop. I do nothing but lap the Camaro and the R390 many times till then. I pull away and make a lead of about 12 seconds. as the tires go away my lead goes down to 4 seconds before I pit on lap 31. the front tires went away faster then I would have liked so I switched them to R1s same as the rears and filled the tank to 45/80.

This is where things get interesting!

I end up in 4th place when I come out of the pits. I have a battle with the Sauber to stay on the lead lap which I lose 5 laps latter. The tires take about 10 laps to break in. When the tires are warmed up I start running consistant 0.29s. thats about a second slower then with the R2s on the front but its ok. I get 3rd place back on lap 41. I keep a steady distance between me and the sauber before he pits on lap 42 and I get the lead back on lap 43.

Things are going well for awhile and all I do is lap traffic and pull a 12 second lead out over the Sauber. things are going well until lap 64 when things take a turn for the worst!

I run out of gas on lap 64 coming out of turn 2. I coast around to the pits at 50mph. when I dive in I'm already a lap down. I put R2s back on the front even though the R1s were holding up much better and I put new R1s on the rear. the tank is filled to 55/80 this time lest I run out of fuel again! when I come out of the pits this time I'm in 4th place again and about to become 2 laps down! :nervous:

The tires take their sweet time to warm up... but when they do I start keeping the pace and slowly start my mad dash to get my laps back. I push harder then I have the whole race not caring one bit about my tires. I slowly start getting my laps back from the nissans and I lap the camaro and the R390 a few more times. I get up to 3rd when the R92 pits on lap 81. The Sauber pits on lap 84 and I see my chance! I get the lead back on lap 85 but just barley! Bad news is my extream pace has worn my tires faster then I would have liked and my fuel is running low... I still make a mad dash though and open an 18 second lead on the Sauber. by this time my tires are gone and my fuel is almost gone. I have a hard time deciding weather or not to pit as a pit stop takes about 30-32 seconds on this track and I dont have that kind of time... But I'm worried I'll either spin badly or run out of fuel again so I pit at the end of lap 93... The Sauber passes me and I end up 13 seconds down on lap 94. At this time I think I'm screwed. I give in to the fact that i'm about to lose an endurance race for the first time. I'm sad. The tires arent warm enough to make a charge and I only have 5 laps to do anything with... But then I notice that I've made up just over a second on the sauber... My heart warms up... Maybe I havent lost the race yet! I decide to push even harder then before and go for the win. By lap 97 I'm 8 seconds down and by lap 98 I'm 6 seconds down. I figure 2 laps isnt enough to make up 6 seconds so I again think I'm going to lose an endurance race for the first time. On lap 99 I'm still 4 seconds down... But wait, i can see the Sauber! I'm on the edge of my seat now... Can i catch up? I have no idea... The last lap comes around and I'm just under 2 seconds down... I catch the Saubers draft on the back straight but its not enough to catch him and I slow for turns 3 and 4 thinking I've lost. 0.9 seconds down coming out of turn 4 i catch the saubers draft again...

I pass him at the line and win by 0.015.

This has to be the closest race I've won in a long time. It was very fun. I didnt think I could do it but I made some magic happen and I pulled it off. 200,000cr and a new red honda nsx lm is now mine.

So there we go. We have my first race report. I hope that if any of you read it you like it. If anyone thinks I've done a half arse decent job I'll do another report on a longer race.

Not at all bad for a first attempt, edge of the seat action all the way! 👍
(Even if it was mostly your fault that it happened like that! :dopey:!)

Just work a little on some of the spelling errors (e.g. wear instead of where and weather instead of whether) and it reads pretty well! Funny old language this English, innit!

Your tyres wear out, but the pits is where you have to go to change them!

Next one please! What'll it be?

I'm sorry i didnt go back and fix all my errors. I normaly go back and read what I post to make sure I spelled things right but i didn't have time. My internet crashed right as I posted This so i'm just glad it got posted.

Now I know it was my fault the race was hard. The problem was that it was a brand new car that I had only put 10 miles of testing on. I was using a very different set up then i normaly use. I was hoping to get extra tire life by using harder tires and i was using more spring rate and sway bar to make up for using next to no camber. I have done this race several times and I normaly win by a lap. Making pit choices on the fly was what led to running out of fuel. I thought 45/80 would be just right to get me to my next stop but since I used harder front tires I didn't realize how much more life I was going to get so the fuel ran out almost on time but i wasnt paying attention as my tires were still fine. One of those "doh!" moments.

As to what race I will do a report on next, well, I had planed on doing a report on a Spoon sports civic type R at new york but that didnt work out. In that race there is always one very good car and the rest are all average. I had a bit of that one wrote as i was doing the race but I just couldnt get to 1st.

Soooo... I'm looking at doing the laguna seca 200 miles in the mazda 6 touring car. the nurburgring 4 hour in a car i havent chosen yet, maybe a nissan 300zx or a similar class sports car. the Fuji 1000KM in a car I havent chosen yet (I might buy an LMP or win something) and I still have my eye on new york... I'd realy like to try and win an enduro in a fwd car. I dont really want to get into any races that will take more then 5 hours though just yet As i'm playing A spec only time isnt on my side.

anyone have ideas on all that?

thanks.

i'm trying to find a good race to make another report on next. I had a rather long report on the laguna seca 200 in the mazda 6 touring car last night but things slowly went away. damn shelby series one...

I will find a good race though...
