The All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC/SUPER GT) is the premier series for touring car racing in Japan. It features 2 classes (GT500 & GT300) with varying performance levels. In 2001 Toyota fielded a large number of Supra GT500's under a number of different teams, with Au Ceramo Supra winning the GT500 class. Toyota Team Tom's entered the 2001 with a refreshed livery, with a completely new design to the 2000 livery. While the 1997 car featured a "3SG" Straight 4, this car featured a new "3UZ" 4.4 V8 with increased torque.
