Track Settings...

I did a search for a topic about individual track settings and i didnt find any. So, in this topic just discuss specific track tweaking and settings. NOT car settings for tracks. Rather discuss the general tunning characteristics for each track. For instance, for nurb you want a taller gear ratio and ride height.

I myself am a tuning noob and im sure this might help other people in fine tuning their cars for each track. Plus a track setting for the sarthe circuit is different than lets say cote d azur. Also, feel free to talk about specific corners (ie. the corckscrew at Laguna) and techniques for tuning.

If this is a stupid and pointless topic that is in the wrong section just say so.

Well, this depends of course on what cars you have in mind for discussing. A setup for a Honda S800 is very different from a Nissan R92CP, wich in turn has very little in common with a Chevy Corvette C4. Other than that, the only thing that can be said is you need softer suspension for bumpy tracks, and longer gear ratios for faster tracks. If you´re only speaking in general terms, that is. A specified car would make it alot easier, but on the other hand, many cars have already been talked about, for different tracks and so on.

im just asking what tracks you find need certain tweaks for. Like how, generally speaking, nurb requires a higher ride height and gear ratios. What do you find the sarthe circuit to like? Do cars run beter on the straight with a high or low ride height? What about spring rates? etc. What about city tracks like new york? is a low or high ride height good or bad? These are only the few example questions that i can think of.

On tight tracks like Hong Kong, I set my cars to oversteer. Usually involving weight being put into the rear or tire staggering so that it oversteers when I lift my foot off of the accelerator.

But on tracks with high-speed turns with only one racing line, like the Nurburgring and La Sarthe, oversteer can hurt just as much as understeer. I usually end up setting the car to have neutral/slightly understeery handling under braking, then setting the LSD acceleration settings low so that I don't oversteer under acceleration.

I can´t say that I have a certain formula for a certain track. It all depends on what car I´m about to use. The only things I can say is that I have higher gear ratios for La Sarthe than for Côte d´Azure, and softer suspension for Nürburgring than High Speed Ring. But most of the time it´s up to the car. A light car can, and should have softer suspension than a heavy car, and car that is not naturally very fast, will end up with a taller gear ratio than a fast car, just to keep up.
