I generally race FR and occasionally FF and AWD. I was in a room last night and my friend was talking about flipping the transmission. He gave me instructions on how to do it, but I don't recall exactly what they were. Is this a good tuning method for dragging? Would someone be willing to post the steps to flip a tranny on this thread? Thanks guys.

I'd just stick with regular tuning. Never tried flipping but have had some friends who tried it and the said its not really and different.

Flipping the transmission does help in 1/4 tuning

It also has helped me in some tunnel tunes as well 👍

1) Default Transmission
2) Max Final
3) Lowest Top Speed
4) Max Last Gear
5) Lower Final till Desired Speed
6) Lowest 1st
7) Adjust Rest of Gears
8) ????
9) Profit
*) Works with most cars (Preferred method in tunnel)
*) Keep Car in the power band (ie shift early in some cars to maximize effects)

I found flipping allows a longer first gear for a better launch while at the same time keeping the gears a bit tighter. But it's basically which car and what type of drag that dictates wether you should flip or not.

8)???? = dominate right? Hahaha. Would you recommend this for muscle cars then. I only run 1/4.

Thanks for the response. I know you have some pretty bad@ss tunes, is this the method you use for 1/4?

Yes people use the method for 1/4, tunnel, long distance, you name it. And yes, I use this for muscle but keep in mind that you still need to keep the car in the power band which could mean that 6th/5th gear isn't all the way to the right. It's all about the power band ya know.

Any tips on what you do different? Are there any tranny methods that are better?

I use other peoples cars to tune mine. If its faster, tune till you beat it. That's how I do my tunes

A lot of people I know don't like people to do that.. Not me in particular but there are some people out there

Why? Its just a good way to improve. Isn't that why we tune to begin with? To be faster than who we are racing? Then why not improve upon who your racing? That's the point

But then it's the exact same thing as the Speed Test isn't it.. Your trying to keep beating your time.. Why not use that then someone else

Not everyone will run the same each time as reactions play a big part. And if you lose bad one time due to reactions you might change that tune that could've actually been better.

True but practicing alone also yields good results.. Take Sir Don Bradman for example.. Australia's greatest cricketer.. And a single child.. He would practice by hitting a golf ball off the corrugated tin water tank using a wicket stump for hours on end.. May have nothing to do with drag racing but you can practice by yourself and still be fast.. That's how I started out..

Right. Its golf over here prob. Lol. But hey, I learned something new! +1

Golf is Scottish ;) haha cricket is 'sorta' like baseball.. Except they only run up and down about 3/4 the length of home to 2nd and it's play on an oval field and 2 batters at a time..

It sounds like the thunder dome of baseball.

Haha I play cricket... My dad also played crickets because well he's Indian. Lol
