Trees in 3D

I was just reading the latest GTP news about GT5 in 3D and thought I'd would see how many of you guys would go for my idea. Here was my comment on the news thread.

The cheapest way to do 3D in GT without buying an expensive 3D monitor would be for Sony to do it in an OLED screen. Now before you guys go off on me saying, "Do you know how much the Sony OLED 11" inch is?" It's only expensive if you make them big. But if you make them in small sizes like the size of a PDA screen it's affordable. So Sony just needs to build a headgear with an OLED screen in 3D, built in surround sound headphones and head tracking. OH! man, you are going to see those trees pop out and branches hitting you in the head when you miss your apex.

Well, 💡 What do you guys think?

Errr nah. That wouldnt work. You mean glasses made out of OLEDs. You wouldnt be able to have full HD because you cant you get 1080p out of 3 inch screens and you need to be standing at least 5 foot away from a screen to have proper 3D. And they would be crazy expensive. Good thought but nah. Oh and they need to be 200hz which is pretty difficult to get out of small screens.

It would be good because the projection made on these vision things is equal to looking at a 60inch TV but its 2D not 3D.

But wouldnt the twin displays of the VR920s allow for some 3D capabilities?

If you have twin panels and show a slightly different angled render on each one, you would get 3d. So yes a pair of tiny OLED screens in some glasses could do 3d assuming each screen had it's own input.

No I'm saying if you make them small like the OLED screens they already use in cell phones and the new ZUNE HD thats coming out. It would be cheap to manufacture.

Maybe they have and they just didn't tell the world yet. Maybe it's coming out at TGS, maybe it's a surprise?

On topic; rain clouds>>>>>>>trees. Clouds release rain so they affect how you drive. Trees have little importance in this game.

Oh! I speak another language too and I love to be corrected. It's a good thing as you're always learning. Anyways, I assumed it was your first language, so that's why I corrected you.

Yeah, I was just making fun of the guys that wanted better trees just because Forza had better ones in thier opinion. So the title "3D trees", but the thread was really about Sony coming out with a head gear that will make use of the head tracking feature and OLED screen in relation to the latest GTP news of 3D being implemented in GT5.

So do you think the technology is there for Sony to release anytime or is it something in the distant future?

Yes, this was what I had in mind but with an OLED screen built in since it most likely has higher resolution. I think Sony can pull it off with todays technology.

Well I guess this will solve the "2D trees issue". What's next reverse lights in 3D when you reverse the reverse tail light would pop up, that would be awesome!

One problem with eye glasses is that you'd need a tiny dot pitch so you could still have a sharp image. You'd be trying to cram several megapixels into a tiny little screen.

It' always ironic and funny when someone whines about a whiner and it turns out the only one was pointlessly whing was the them!

Good point I tried the ones in the link at a Sharper Image store and found that the image was magnified to give the impression of a 60 inch screen and it was pretty grainy. So I'm hoping if you make the OLED at least 4 to 5inches maybe they won't need to be magnified too much that it would be acceptable. Then they would be like the size of ski goggles.

I don't know thou, I would have to see a working prototype really to see if the image would be acceptable.

I don't get why people are so hyped up about 3D. Ok, it's cool and all but... so what? The game is the same any way, and I'm not exactly planning to move around a lot while I'm playing GT5.
