Earlier this day I was nailing some 150 pt. races in the Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Concept '88 (with no modifications of any kind, and no ASM/TCS of course), and decided to see what this car could really do.
About the car
The car is a concept version of the Camaro, fabricated by Chevrolet, called IROC-Z. It's from year 1988, and so it looks. It's a beautiful 80's in my opinion. Its engine's got around 230 bhp, which it spits out at the rear wheels.
I wanted to do an evaluation of the cars driving capabilities, so here's how that went:
First of all, a speed test. So off I went to the test track. I first got the result 243,38 km/h, but I wanted to see what the gears would allow for, so I did a second test. For this one I slapped on a supercharger, just for the kicks. Now it went almost all the way, and that's 260,65 km/h. And the accelleration was a whole lot better.
In either way though, it seems to have a bit troubles squeezing out the last couple of km/h, but the car seems to have a low powerband too. Also the rev limiter is at 5000 rpm.
Second, the handling test. It is common knowledge that the nürburgring will push any car to its absolute limits, and often a bit further, so thus I choose this track.
And take note that I did use the supercharger for this one too, just to have it go a little faster.
So I started racing. I was once again amazed (like I had been in the races a mentioned to begin with) by it's smooth handling. It's not the kind of car that needs low speeds to turn, it just seems to go where you want it to - and if it starts to spin out, then that's okay, cause it's really stable and fun to drift.
The only time you don't wanna turn too tight, is when you near maximum speed, as it likes to skid out - but just turn smooth, and it will behave.
I only did one lap, and though it was clean most of the time, I spun out a couple of times. Staying off the grass isn't really that hard, but it can be tough to get off it, and onto the road again. At least without spinning out. My lap time was 8'30.
So for a quick resume: Very stable, very smooth, but stay off the grass. But then again, you shouldn't be getting on the grass in the first place. Speed is okay, for its class, and I've been able to outrace a viper (not on the straights, but in the turns) easily. What's not to love?
