Ok as many of you know I am getting a S-10 soon, I hope.

But any way I was wondering a few things:

Can you lower a 4wd or just 2wd?
What is better. Cylinder or lowering kit?
How much would a lowering kit and cylinders cost?
What is the best height? I don't want to but smaller tires.
Where is a good place to find truck stuff?
and
What model S-10 should I look at if I want to do stuff to it?

Thanks
Street

And the S-10 sucks in every angle, I'll wait for the next Chevy pickup called the Colorado instead. It has more looks, more rigid body (because it Isuzu engineered), and more powerful engine. Looks promising in my perspective.

Not enough budget, I rather get the last model C/K pickup, esp. the 2WD HD, its the bomb when you lower it.
What I would do:
-Revise the front-end with the Denali/Escalade design
-Color it black, and intall chrome wheels
-Put an awesome sound system,
-Read some magazine related to this type of modification (ex. Low Rider, Trucks, etc.)

:)

Ok to provide information: you can lower either a 4x4 or a 2x4, but most go the 2x route.

I assume you mean air cylendars... they are fine, you will just need to custom make a rear end suspention as all of the trucks have a solid rear axle, other than that the air cylendars are the best. (or bags)

I think you can get a set of bags for around 2g's fully setup... don't quote me though

Man you're pretty technical-based, are you a mechanic or an (automotive) engineer.

No I just read alot about automotive kinda things, and am currently rebuilding a 1950 Mercury truck. I research what I am interested in, so I can provide some information to others.

Of course I also repair any of our cars (not under warrenty) so that helps as well.

Cylinders are kinda pricey. I was just looking at a lowering kit mostly but cylinders are still in mind. depends on my funds.

I've known about the Colorado for months. I'm on a robotics team at GM and we work back in mock up. I'm not really a fan of it.

Why not lower a truck. I'm not going to raise a S-10. And I really like the S-10 so that is why I'm going to get one.

I'm not really up for mass work to do some stuff. Maybe I should just get an Xtreme.

Because it ruins the whole point of having a truck.

Dude I'm not going to go off roading. I just want a nice truck. Hell I found a 2 inch drop kit for 139 bucks that I would like to have.

I really like low trucks. I think they look nice.

And for futher note. Just answer my questions. Don't just tell me about why I shouldn't do it unless there is a good reason.

Everyone should adhear to this rule when a technical question is asked.

At that price, it seems like a good deal... What do they give you?

They give you Springs and some other stuff. I'll have to find the web page that has it on it

Ya but I'd really like cylinders. How easy or hard is it to install? My friend said something about the rear end needing to be changed. Also can someone direct me to a site on how to do this if no one knows how to do this?

Thanks

Your friend is right. With cylendars, you need a new way of locatinbg your rear end. Usually the leaf springs do this, but with the cylendars, (or bags) you need to have trailing arms to do this...

There probably are kits to do this, or you can get something custom made. To bad you don't live here, I could fab you up something.

The cylendars are easy to install, as are the lowering stuff you had mentioned. With a set of jack stands, and a set of wrenches and sockets, you should be set.

Get the X-treme and revise the front-end to a '95 spec, thats why I don't like the S-10 today because the front-end is totally ****ed up.

the whole point of a four wheel drive is to go offroad. lowering it is just dumb. stick with your puss box eclipse and dont ruin something like an S10.

OK, seriously keep your opinion to yourself. He says he wants to do it so let him do it. "Puss box" also dosn't give a good impression of yourself.

So in the words of someone:

Shut the **** up.

Um, that's "pus"...and this is way too off-topic for me to even get involved. :P

On-topic: I don't get the idea of lowering a truck either. I guess it could be for more of a transportation issue, travelling at high speeds on the highway and all, but it certainly does kill some of the purposes people built the truck for.

Rhyming with "puss":
De gustibus non disputandem est.

Ok first off **** you " ". I love my Eclipse and I don't say **** about your car.

Also I want to lower a truck because I like it.

Why the hell are you getting 2 SUVs if you're not going off road? Get real.

get a 6'' lift kit, 36'' flotation tires and a 4wd truck, and now we're speaking.
