True Crime : Streets of LA

Anybody bought it or played it yet?

I rented it out tonight because it's such a similar idea to GTA3 and Vice City... huge city with lots of cars to drive around it in, loads of missions to pass, people to kill....

If it's got one thing going for it, it's got a HUGE game area. It's supposedly a 3d rendition of the entire Los Angeles area. It's FAR bigger than Vice City.

I've completed the first two episodes and I have to say it's not bad at all. I don't like the aiming system, you have to hold down the weapon button for a short while to activate your target. It's awkward and takes time. But it's got lots of cool features, like being able to handcuff suspects, shoot into the air to frighten bad guys, flash your badge at people (I haven't done that yet), etc.

It's probably the game that The Getaway was meant to be. I've never played The Getaway, but I wanted to when I saw the ads for it. It seemed like the obvious game for a GTA fan to buy. Cars, guns, a huge city to explore, etc. But my brother said it was just boring and hard to play, and the reviews were hardly ecstatic so I never bothered.

I think I'll head straight to my local game shop after work on Monday and pick up a copy....

Well i have not played it yet, but i did see the trailer for it on TV and wow, it does look very much like Vice City, well the shooting and stealing cars part of it anyway.

You know what, it's a good game, but when I've played it, I can't help thinking that I'd rather be playing Vice City or that I'd like to drive by pedestrians, get out of my car and aim a few rockets at a few cars at a crossroad, snipe a few innocents, hop onto a superbike, etc...

If Rockstar Games get their act together and combine the kind of chaotic freeform gameplay that we all love the GTA series for with the huge city and seemless load-free graphics that True Crime has, then the next GTA game would be un-****ing-believable. What's actually hard to believe is that they've created a city that must be 10 times the size of Vice City, at least, and that they've managed it without load screens, pop-ups or glitches.

The Getaway did suck totally. You HAD to do the missions and couldn't just cruise around, and when you could there were some restrictions.

Can you just cruise around in True Crime? I wouldn't mind renting it when it comes out down here. I love the trailers and lessons on the official site. Quite funny.

When you finish a mission you have to drive to the start of the next one, but you can just cruise around doing what you want. There's garages in the city that contain any bonus cars you've earned and your police radio will constantly inform you of armed robberies, officers that need help, muggings, carjackers, etc. that you can go and sort out if you want.

i got it yesterday and i have already nearly finished it, only 2 or 3 more episodes to go. I found the aiming quite easy and when you get the slow-mo prescision aiming upgrade doing aiming like that is a lot easier. Especially for neutralizing shots. Well i found the controls quite easy, probably why i have done a lot of it in such short time, but i say its worth getting.
