Trying to Tame the Germans

Hi there! I'm having quite a bit of trouble tunning some (well all) of my German cars. My problem is that I can seem to go straight and fast but when it comes to breaking and turning I run into problems and walls :) Here are the culprits:

-Audi RS 6
-Audi RS4 Wagon
-RUF RGT
-Mercedes SLR (just bought it but knowing my tunning finese this will run into the wall lots as well)

The problem that I'm having with the cars (save the SLR) is that when I want to slow down for a turn on a track I press the brake button but the car doesn't seem to stop and it eventually runs right into the wall; it feels like the brakes aren't being applied or something. Also when I do manage to slow down enough to properly take the turn my car usually oversteers the turn.

The only thing I really understand is that lowering the ride hight of my car is good but other than that I'm clueless. I only lower it a bit (usually 10mm) because I'm worried that if it is too low the wheels won't be able to turn properly.

I also seem to get some tire slip while shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear because I assume the power is too much for the wheels and it's not tunned correctly. I usually get the R3 wheels and if I have money and I don't see a significant amount of lag I put in a Stage 4 turbo.

I used the 350Z Concept LM Race Car or Nurburgring and it seemed to be fine with the stopping and cornering compared to my cars. I don't know whether it's because it's an actual fully tunned race car or whether my cars are tunned properly.

So in summary, I could really use some help getting my cars to stop/brake and turn properly so that I can actually put down some decent lap times. Any suggestions would greatly be appriciated. Thank you for your time :)

dude,
first of all GT4 wont let u do anything stupid to the car (except maybe turn it into a drag racer, to much hp in a crappy car) it seems to me u should leave the cars ride height where it is (stability wont feel as solid as it could, but this will allow body roll in corners which can be nice) get an full custom lsd and adjust the accel decel and intl tq (all levels) until u loose the slippage when accel and braking. my big thing about ur brake set up is u could have the balance (ABS) to low or to high keep fooling with that untill u find a level where the car is slowing nicely for a corner and not skipping or makeing "out of the ordinary" noises. in terms of the set-ups you should have for the preceeding, its up to the driver just keep foolin' (i reccomend on the Nurburg ring in family practise or whatever its called.)
Good luck man, i hope i was of SOME help!

It certainly sounds as if you're locking up, Meelapo.

Do you have a DS2 or a wheel & pedals set-up?

If it's a DS2, remember that the buttons are pressure sensitive so try being very gentle in getting on the brakes and see if that cures the 'slip-sliding-away problem'. Also, the grip level of the tyres you use may be a factor - if they're fitted with Teflon Cheepies then you're going to have all kinds of trouble with braking and handling.

Don't slam on the brakes, just apply enough pressure without locking up the wheels.
Increase (or decrease if needed) the Brake Controller
Adjust LSD
Adjust ride height
Add a wing if needed, adjust downforce
De-tune your car so the power does not over-ride your modifications. Power is useless if you cannot harness and control it.

I can give you some "fun" settings fore the Rs4

First of all, these settings is based on a fully tuned Rs 4 with hard slicks, spoiler, stage 4 turbo etc..

The settings will give you a car lots of oveersteers when breaking into the bends when turning and breaking, let go of the breakes and the rear will find grip.

Suspension:
Spring rate: F 8.4 R 5.8
Ride height: F 83 R 93
Damper bounce side: F 8 R 7
Damper rebound side: F 8 R 7
Camber angel: F 3 R 1.5
Toe angel: F -1 R 0
Stabiliser: F 5 R 4

Driving aids:
None!

Breakes:
Brake balance: F 6 R 10

Nos:
max!

Down force:
F 14 R 2

Tires:
F Hard slicks R Hard slicks

Centre differential:
50

I dont think you need to no any more...
I strongly recomend that you trie it out on the Nordschleife!
A comment on the settings would be nice! :)

Mate, been living here for 4 and a half years and I ain't tamed one.... oh you ment the cars not the girls?!? There is a WICKED RUF setup on the forum, can't praise it enough. The guy either lucked out with it or spent hours, either way, look for it, its there.

*Bump*

I'm trying to "tame" the RS4 aswell. Not a lot of luck yet, however I have "found" a pretty descent setup in my opinion. I would like some pointers though from the experts cause I'm pretty stuck at the moment. The car feels really twitchy at low speeds and still understeers a lot at higher speeds. Also if someone could help, I'm also trying to get it ready for the endurance at El Capitain, any pointers on that by any chance?

Car is fully tuned, except for a stage 1 turbo instead of a stage 4 and NO NOS!
Suspension:
Spring rate: F 10.9 R 7.5
Ride height: F 83 R 83
Damper bounce side: F 6 R 4
Damper rebound side: F 3 R 2
Camber angel: F 3 R 1.5
Toe angel: F 0 R 0
Stabiliser: F 5 R 4

Driving aids:

Breakes:
Brake balance: F 4 R 3

Tires:

Centre differential:

Thanks in advance,

Hello!
You said that you got a lot of understeer at high speeds, do you have a wing on your car? If not buy one and adjust the downforce, use lots of downforce on the front and the car will grip more in highspeed corners.

Try som toe in on the front as well, I use -1 on my car and it works!

For the the endurancerace I will recomend hard or superhard slicks! And lots of downforce for the highspeed bends! 👍

i have had the mercades slr mclaren for quite a while and if you put R2-R4 tires on it and all the brakes money can buy you will be just fineeven if you have 880hp it will still handle like a dream. mine has every single part on it and i tuned it to a perfect point. i say just tune every thing to ur needs and the car is a dream to drive. i <3 it

Too stiff buddy. This car needs to dip, dive, roll, squat but not bounce.

Now here's the most important aspect; these gears will increase yaw rate in the slow stuff 3rd gear rips the car right around!!! And I mean rips, tyres go to hell quick, can barely make it twice around the Ring in the Family Cup set to 10. HP at 571 eats them more than say HP at 435, (duh).
Gears auto to 6
Now pull the final to 3.775
1ST all the way left
2nd all the way right
3rd all the way right
5 and 6 all the way left (if done correctly 6Th will be .775, and good for 200mph)
4 split the difference form 3 to 5.
Hp 435 to 571
Light as possible, and a cage
I know they look really soft and it is, but give them an honest sahot around the ring and you will be 4wd drifting around 90% of the track!

And Like wise, give me the same courtesy by giving your feed back, once you try them out.

I do some side by side braking test on different spring, ride height, camber, damper, tire, and BBC on GT2. I think with GT2 physics is that close to real life, no way the GT4 will be less.
summary:
Weight transfer influenced by tire, spring rate and ride height.
Braking performance influenced by correct BBC, tire, racing brake and weight transfer.
