Deep Forest; 5 Lap Race

This track lies on the cusp of Beginner and Intermediate in terms of difficulty. It's easy because many of it's turns can be taken at high speed. But there are a few tougher corners as well as some rise and dips in the track that could be interesting when you are at full throttle. Plus the 180 turn after the start is always fun. I keep my $100 in monopoly money, as no one mentioned the free pass we get from the penalty system at turn 5L. Also, bike change for the Ring TT below.

A great bike on a very fun track. Enjoy the gift from PD at turn 5L. Plenty of other places to get the 10 second/31 mph prize.

hi Mark :) does that mean we can cut across the grey tarmac area at that point?

:)

Let's have some fun and bend those OLR rules. Will be interesting to see how much time is shaved off. And if it affects a rider's style, because we are so used to staying off it. I played around a little. But a potential penalty area before the tunnel comes up fast if you're not careful, and bammo!

hi all :) i had a quick try last night, and on medium tyres i managed a best lap of 1:19.777

the mediums were hardly past green at the end, so maybe softs are worth a try

edit: gave softs a run, and ended up with a total time 0.4xx faster than i got on mediums

best lap was 1:18.851. the softs were shot and horribly unpredictable after 3 1/2 laps though

i definitely prefer the more settled nature of the mediums throughout the 5 laps 👍

After Hong Kong I was wondering if it would be alright to do 5 hotlaps and count that as a Race ? 💡

Good Luck all !

I could have told you that. :sly:

GTPLMS/GTPCTC and RacerPaul's event put to bed. Tonight is my race night. Unless Equestrian Showcase tickles my fancy. Surprisingly addictive in a low key way.

edit: Got a clean race in, after 7 restarts in the first lap because of AI bumps or off track stuff. :ouch: It almost seemed as if the AI bikes were drawn to me like a magnet. I know that it's the case but it's because we are taking the same racing line. But it sucked anyway. On my good race I was past the 3 AI riders before the tunnel at turn 7 on lap one. After that it was just a matter of not getting too creative and staying clean. Time suffered though, and my best lap split was in the 1'23.xxx. Off from my best TT warmup of high 1'21's.

Thought about doing what Viperin suggested and running 5 TT's and adding them together. 💡 But that would be cheating. 👎 And didn't even try the concrete corner on turn 5. So used to running it per OLR rules. Saw no need.

Finally got a good run in...
1'20.489 on the first lap1'18.465 fastest lap

:ouch: My best was a 1'23.xxx on the first. And a 1'21.xxx after that, but numerous times pushed it too hard and was awarded with the penalty. So after another hour last night. I'll submit my previous run and take my lumps.

time submitted 👍

it took me a while this evening, quite a few aborted attempts :ill:

i ended up with a 1st lap of 1:20.262 and a best lap of 1:18.969

i did, and it felt kind of seedy :yuck: i'll get over it though :D

A podium finish :)
Unexpected, but I will gladly accept it.
You have to be in it to win it I guess !

Amazing lap times by Valentino and Jorge this round
( I wish they would stick to MotoGP and leave us mere mortals alone  ).

Another great track & bike combo, very testing but satisfying to overcome.

Well done all. 👍

Glad they were here. No fun just beating up on me. Somebody you can chase. Hope everyone can run at Motegi Super. Short and sweet.

hehe, you're very kind thank you :D it can be tricky for someone like me who is considered 'fast' by his peers to give advice without
coming across as cocky. i'll try though, and if it seems cocky, please be assured it wasn't intended that way...

i remember having a team-mate in some GT4 olr's who was 'slower' than me, and he asked me how i was quicker

bear in mind at this point that in the big scheme of GT pace i'm not that quick

after some discussion, we found that he was being too careful and driving using real-life principals, like avoiding damage and injury

that's a recipe for 'slow' in the gaming world imo

in TT, i go fast as i can off the start of whatever event it is. and if fall off or hit the sides at a certain point, i go a little slower the
next time i'm at that point and hopefully won't fall off or hit the sides

to me, that seems a better way to develop pace in gaming rather than starting off carefully then winding it up :D

uploading as i type, the video of my first and best laps from this event. luckily lap 2 was my best so that saved me some splicing

Easily one of my favorite bikes in the game, & not just because om currently on my 5th Buell.
Fast & relatively easy to ride.

I tend to start fairly conservatively with my set-up (TT Mode) & riding, then push my reference points where there is time to be gained, adjusting the settings as needed. Probably has a lot to do with the amount time that I've spent on real tracks. For me, going fast in TT comes down to using reference points & looking further down the track as early as possible, just like on a real track.

My replay is available here: http://www.ttbikesim.com/community/single.php/645
Is there anyone else on here from the states that can actually use my NTSC replays?

No problems here with accepting your advice, always keen to learn from my betters and try and improve.
I guess my main problem with getting top class lap times is being too conservative. Not so much with hotlaps, where I do okay, but with multi lap races, where I think to finish first, first you have to finish ( or at least not stuff up too often ! ).
This is especially important to me when there are consequences for making errors. My DF Race I submitted was only my second completed clean effort, after falling off a few times and running wide and incurring a penalty, I "worked out " the Bike and a suitable method of riding it.
I probably could have kept trying to flog a dead horse and improve my times substantially but I was happy with my effort and figured I could not do much better without at least one penalty.

DJ Baker - oldmodelt would be able to import your replays, I am pretty sure there are a few other US players who could ( and should !! ) use them.
I know I appreciated being able to watch RacerPauls replay from Monaco on my PS2.
Very useful.

See y'all @ Motegi.
Dont get dizzy :sly:
