Tune database

So this is my plan, it's is a little early but I'm thinking of keeping a tune database on here since I'm sure there are quite a few people who struggle with tuning cars but can put down a fast lap What I want to do is set up this database and what happens is a user will submit a car, I then would test the car to weed out the tunes I don't feel are as good to keep the database strong. They will then get posted in the 1st post under the brand the car is, and with any notes I feel I should include.

How this works is I'm hoping there will be a way we can transfer cars to other players...that would make it cheapest and easiest and I can be sent a psn msg (or pm here) about things like..the track it was tuned for, if it was tuned for a wheel or controller ect, and then I test the car, write down all parts and settings for it and send it back. Granted this will require some trust on my part to not steal your machines, but after a couple cars roll in I feel it will become evident I have no intention of ripping you off.

Option B is the one I don't wanna do but will if I have to, tunes get submitted here and I rebuild the car when I can afford to, and if all checks out it gets posted in the 1st post for all to use. Right now I'm simply making this thread to feel if this is going to be worth all the work I would have to put in so give me your feedback and I will try and plan something out. (I'd make this a poll but I don't know how to make polls in GTP :grumpy: )

It's a good idea but with the amount of members that are here it would turn into a full time job for you.

Well it could certainty expand to include more people as time went on if I knew they were fast, Im not saying that things would be updated super fast..but I think it would be nice to have a database of proven tunes then just a bunch of random stuff, I know it was an issue Forza back when I played it.

That's a good idea. Just make sure we get what "difficulty" or assist settings the tune is made for. Also it would probably be a good idea to get multiple people to test and weed out the bad tunes. I know from experience that my friend is a good GT player but we drive completely opposite machines. I like a real aggressive, snappy, and over steering tune. He likes a more neutral car with a little under steer. Both of us can throw down great track times but we get there in a different way. Just a thought

I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself to do all the grunt work, not that I don't appreciate it, but there has to be a better way!

I think somehow there should be a master thread or a master guide on this site, maybe 3 builds per car:

1. an entry level machine with a few inexpensive but effective modifications.
2. a track-exclusive car ready for a race at the top of its class
3. the absolute pinnacle of this car's tuning potential

Things would start off slowly and then I could build up to a small team to assist to do things quicker :) I do this big projects quite alot so not something I'm not used too :P

Just make sure we get what "difficulty" or assist settings the tune is made for.
Of course this is just a simple layout as to how things would be layed out is all.

As good an idea as this is, it would be difficult since it would slow down the time it takes to do a car, this is what the note section would be fore to explain in brief what the car would feel like (thus would need to find experienced drivers) me myself, I grip and drift, so im used to both ends of the scale I can hold an oversteering car well but at the same time can run a car normally that you need to force to oversteer. As things would start out I would work solo and when people got more familiar with the game I would look for others to bring on board.

You could create a tuning team on there (or just post them publicly) and people can search through them, add tunes they like to their favorites etc. People can even rate tunes. I am adding support for GT5 now.

This would be something better done by setting up a site dedicated to it, rather than use the forum. You want to be able to post and read tunes, but also everyone should be able to review them. Then they can be searched via author, car, PP, score, track, etc.
Which would be something that I think would fit well on GTPlanet, but I imagine Jordan is a pretty busy guy :)

EDIT: lol, ninja'd by the very thing I described. Nice work nasanu!

EDIT2: Is there any way you can get affiliated with gtplanet.com? The more people who use your site the better it will be; if everyone here used it by default it'd become something pretty immense.

I think you need to take yourself out of the equation... and if you want to start a database open it to all... The thing with tunes is that a tune that doesnt work for you might work wonders for the other guy....

Just a thought... 👍

-Edit: I see Nasanu is present here too ;)

This is a sound idea but I think you should wait until you understand the new tuning modeling of GT5 before you run and test a setting that was received. As we all know with each addition of GT things change, we had to learn what changed and act accordingly. It would be best to have some other people test the setting besides your self right from the start. Say if I send you a tune the first week after GT5 is out, you run it and don't like because your unable to get control the car or get a good time. You throw it out because you dim it's unfit. I give that same to tune someone else and their able to run the tune with no trouble and beat the time you set with it. Just because you're a sound drive in grip and drift doesn't mean that you drive the same way I do, I may brake deeper, exhilarate out of a turn sooner ect. It would be best if you get other people to help you with this or it will fall apart fast. Then you'll have done all this work for nothing and it would be a pointless act.

Personally I feel I can look at any car in an objective manner without saying this is crap *toss* like I said a group of people would eventually be the goal to help speed things up, but need to start somewhere. I don't wanna bring people on at random who say me me me! if I haven't seen them run before. :P

What do you think qualifies you, as the person who can tell if a tune is worth anything or not. Surely you need a team, and get a general consensus, afterall, different tunes suit different driving styles.

Perhaps instead you should just start a tuning garage where you take suggestions and try and improve them.

Well, I can sit here and try and justify myself but without the game in my system it's all just words. That being said I'm 22 and have been playing the GT series since it came out and I was ..lets see...9 or 10 I guess, pretty much all I played on my ps1 where various racers and recently I have set multiple solid times in FM, am I the fastest person around? No, but I certainly have the experience to evaluate how a car feels, plus I know how I get with these big projects and I know I'm willing to see it through and work on this to keep things up to date, again a team would be the eventual goal, but all things come in due time.

sounds like a great idea that i would abuse lol
and with 1000+ cars and only a limited amount of tracks...

i could have 1 car per track and variation of it (more like 60)

That is exactly the reason I created www.consoleracer.com

Well done fella!!!
Good luck to you!

Seems like the tuners garages will take care of themselves. A "miscellaneous" garage made up of those that don't want to start their own garage may be a good idea.

Good idea mate. I will be a regular visitor 👍

Not exactly a polite move, as if your avatar and signature weren't free advertising enough.

This thread is all about creating an online database of tunes and maybe a site to host it. As I said to you in the PM where you accused me of advertising for my rival 'forum', my site is very much on the topic of this thread.

But whatever. Personally I think site/database like the one discussed here are a good idea and I really want to see one take off. This one, mine whichever. You should be helping their growth, not trying to kill them off.

And Duke, don't try to paint me as a spammer.
