Tuner Challenge Version 5 - Battle Circuit Motegi

The Course: Twin Ring Motegi - Short East Course (Normal)

Rules:
  • S3 Tyres only.
  • Normal cars only. Concept and 'Tuner' vehicles need to be pre-approved.
  • Cars with Race Livery are NOT allowed.
  • No off-road driving or shortcuts will be tolerated.

There are four classes available to compete in, determined by weight and power limits and/or WPR limits. The categories are:

LIGHTWEIGHT - 800-1050Kg with a 285hp limit. (WPR between 2.807 & 3.685)

MIDDLEWEIGHT - 1051-1300Kg with a 375hp limit. (WPR between 2.803 & 3.467)

HEAVYWEIGHT - 1301-1600Kg with a 465hp limit. (WPR between 2.798 & 3.441)

SUPERCAR - 1601Kg+ with a 575hp limit, or another car with a WPR higher than 2.785.

Tuners must define what class their entries are going into. Tuners are required to build a car that will be tested out and will compete against the "Battle Monsters" of their respective classes. These cars will set the benchmark of what is required for TCv5 in terms of laptime and performance. Your opponents for each class are:

LIGHTWEIGHT
OPERA PERFORMANCE S2000 - (274hp, 930Kg, WPR of 3.394)

MIDDLEWEIGHT
MINE'S LANCER EVOLUTION 6 - (400hp, 1210Kg, WPR of 3.025)

HEAVYWEIGHT
NISMO SKYLINE GT-R R-TUNE - (458hp, 1560Kg, WPR of 3.406)

SUPERCAR
GRAN TURISMO SKYLINE GT-R - (541hp, 1560Kg, WPR of 2.884)

Entries for all classes will be accepted until July 1st 2009, 0000 GMT. Post all entries for all classes in this thread. Any adjustments or edits to tunes after this time will not be accepted without prior consent by myself and the car will be removed from judging as a consequence.

Good luck to you all and may the best tuner win. 👍

Mafs!!

The Judging Criteria

There are five major categories that we are looking at to find the best tune overall. Four judges will be doing the judging with the lowest score being dropped for all competitors because only three judges will be able to judge the other judges cars. The cars will be judged on a 100 point scale, with the scores being divided in the following areas:

  • Speed (Power, Acceleration, Top Speed on circuit) = 25 Points
  • Handling (corner speed, turn in, braking etc.) = 25 Points
  • Versatility (ability to do similar times on various lines) = 20 Points
  • Battle Monster (lap time vs benchmark) = 20 Points
  • Improvement over stock = 10 Points

To Enter As A Judge

I need three brave souls to help me in judging this tuning feast. So, if you want to be a judge, express your interest via the TCv5 Discussion Thread or by sending a private message to my Inbox! The judges will be allowed to enter aswell as judge.

Judging will commence on the 4th July 2009, 0000 GMT to allow plenty of time to judge the entries. The Top 2 of each class judged will then be in a run-off to decide which car is the "Battle Monster" of Motegi.

Once again, good luck to everyone entering and may the best tuner win.
👍

With this car you can go fast and have fun. Just a Little bit of oversteer during cornering when you lighten your right foot, which can come in handy when you're looking for some fun. ;) This dissapears though the moment you hit the gas again.

Oh, and make sure you get the 'British Racing Green' version, with some gold rims. This makes the car look neat. :)

Edit: Important! I forgot about the transmission settings! Thank you Mcscueegy for noticing. :)

Quite an old tune now, i thought it was one of my better ones, and it was made as an all purpose track car, for the beginners, and for the not so beginners. Changed the tune, sorry about that, i didn't check the power properly. Not sure its much of an Super car, but lets have a go anyway.

Notes:
I built this M3 purely to win the TCv4 N3 tyre division, hence the name, N3. It succeeded in winning, claiming 1st place with little problems. When I was running tests on this M3 using N3 tyres, I noticed it ran the pace you'd see from S3 cars. So when I put S3 tyres on the M3, I found it performed just as well as my NSX-R Evo.II tune, and that isn't an easy thing to do. So here it is, returning for TCv5, running on S3 tyres. Can it take a 2nd gold trophy home? We'll have to wait and see.

I'll get eaten, but oh well.:P

Question: as as judge, are we supposed to judge both the "monsters" and the individual entries by GTP members? Then compare them? Or is it okay to just drive the various cars people are entering?

The only thing you have to get from the 'monsters' is your own laptime for that category Parnelli so that it's more accurate for you judging the cars in that category. :) I'll PM you to give more info. 👍

P.S. Should've asked me this in the discussion thread. :P

Notes:
I think this car is the perfect entry for this competition. Sure I could have made a fast car faster, but instead I've taken an otherwise mediocre sports car and made it come alive. Best power and laptimes wasn't my concern, hence it is stock weight and limited power. I did this because I like the stock weight balance and this turbo has good power across the rev range. I could have used downforce, but I think it spoils this cars looks (even though looks wont be judged I just couldn’t bring myself to put a wing on it). I wanted a car that was fun before fast and still looked good while driving around town. So here you have it AWDA's MR2 Turbo.

The Mazda surprised the googley mooglies out of me. It was quick and with the right amount of tuning i managed to get this understeering beast in check. Behaves typically like an AWD car in stock form, but now it corners with mild understeer and has very good response, especially since it doesn't have a VDC. All in all it was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

One of two S2000 R1's supposedly missing from the Amuse workshop, now built specifically to annoy Mafs.

This is the lime green car, rolling on some polished wheels to keep with the Honda tuner look. What Amuse started, we finished. Weight was brought down to compete with the Opera S2000, with a power boost to keep the white S2000 in the rear view mirror. Suspension was given an overhaul to compliment the S2000’s already sorted chassis. Rapid acceleration and seemingly unlimited amounts of grip is the game the LimeLighter plays.

Enjoy.

One of two S2000 R1's supposedly missing from the Amuse workshop, now built specifically to annoy Mafs.

This is the blue car, strangely riding on would be Honda steel wheels if they weren't so big... There's something strange going on here, and I don't just mean the wheels. According to some nameless spectators, the car seems to be held on track by some invisible force, sliding the tail out slightly on entry and then sticking like glue whilst blazing through the corners at speeds generally unseen on the "street legal" tires it wears.

Enjoy.

So concludes my final entry into this competition. What better way to do it than in a flashy Aston Martin DB9, girls use a napkin, thanks.

Seriously though, this car is great. It's been tuned for slight understeer in high speed bends. In low speed corners you only need to point it and let the accelerator do all the work, not hairy handling at all. The best is part i didn't have to spend hardly any money on power upgrades the V12 is absolutely amazing!

I made this car with a goal: to be as fast as Roj's NSX! And I think I did pretty well, for a day's work. This car likes to redline, so make sure you do that! It's possibly the most stable car i've ever made, and it's very competitive. You won't even feel like you're going fast. Just don't get any wheels on the grass, those tyres are designed for tarmac! The gearbox is made specifically for Motegi, but it also works well at Trial Mountain, Suzuka, and Infineon. Have fun!

Another car from me, which can only mean the Subaru. My first attempt at tuning went disastrously bad, but this refined version still holds my fastest Saloon around the Trial Mountain record. Not the ultimate supercar, perhaps, but the ultimate Saloon surely.

EDIT: Tune changed to (hopefully) comply with Heavyweight Tune.

Note:

Another minimalistic MR build from Forza Barbieri Motorsport that uses most of production and/or non adjustable parts and has a reasonable price.
Made this Type S to compete against the big brother Type R,but it will be hard.
Au Contraire to Macca's Solstice, this NSX doesn't like redline,so keep an eye on the RPM and shift around 8000-8500.

An unusual choice for my final entry, a car that won't take a wing! However it is a car that is well balanced and grippy without extra downforce. Oh, and it looks great too:)
