Tuner Village Question

No, the only difference from manufacturer tuning
and Tuner village tuning is the few extra parts
like instead of having Turbo stage 3 to 4 you
would have the highest stage of Original.
Please anyone correct me if I am wrong.:)

Pitracer, I think you've got the idea but let me explain it in more detail.

The perks of having your car tuned at Tuner Village are that for certain parts, there is a much better version of the part for much cheaper as represented by the "original" label.

For Example: Tuner Village has a Stage 5 Turbo Kit for a cheaper price than the Stage 4 Turbo Kit and on top of that, it cranks out more power than the Stage 4 as well.

Same goes for NA Tuning and Suspension, the one thing about the Suspension tuning is that the Original Package gives you further boundaries of tuning than the Full Customization Package.

As for a benefit for one brand over another, there's no real difference. An HKS Suspension Kit will work exactly like a Blitz Suspension Kit with no difference in performance between the two kits and so on.

Thanks for the fix, Irons. This thread should be closed now from the nicely
put statement.

Actually, he's not entirely correct.

The Stage 5 turbo RARELY gives more power, it's actually less power in most cases. Nor does it give more torque in most cases either. It's the delivery of the power that makes the difference. Check the dyno graphs between a Stage 3/4 vs Stage 5 and you will see a huge difference in the low rpm range.

Same with the original suspension. The Fully Customisable suspension is better for tuning as you can individually set the damper bound and rebound, the original suspension just says damper, which means the one setting for both. That's not better in anyone's book. The main difference is that you can get a different range (usually more stiff) for the spring rates.

As for NA Tuning.....there's no difference between Tuner Village or OEM tuning.

The answer becomes clearer, and clearer.

Not so much a gimmick, just a poorly executed attempt at providing the tuner houses to the public. Differentiating the parts from each other in some aspects would've helped, but the way PD did that was by only allowing cars into certain tuner houses. You won't find any JDM car that can go into all 14 tuner houses....period.

Does tuning your car at a certain company, for example, HKS rather than Blitz make your car characteristics different?

no, no difference whatsoever. however though a Tuner Village vs a manufacturer's tune shop bares only this one diff, you'll see a Turbo Stage 5 or "original" as your highest available turbo from the tuner shops while a Stage 4 turbo is the highest available at your dealer (and/or vice-versa). In some cases like with Skylines that original turbo kit will put out more HP than the Stage 4 so thats where id recommend that Stg.5 or "original' turbo. now it doesnt work out that way for every car, more than likely you will see that original turbo kit or Stage 5 kit, puts out less hp than a Stage 4 or even stage 3 turbo kit sometimes, happy tuning!

Once again I will say this:

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE NUMBERS!! IT'S THE DELIVERY OF THE POWER THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!

I would pick a Stage 5 turbo for a Supra over a Stage 4 ANYDAY, regardless if it has 12hp less. It's got heaps more torque!! Same with the Spec-C, FD RX7's, etc. Even the Integra Type R has less torque and less power with Stage 5, but it IS quicker over the 1/4 and 1000m compared to the Stage 3 turbo. There is about a 10-15% difference in torque in the low rpm range.

this makes sense and then it can be deterred away from for the same reason. by psychics and science and just regular common sense, a larger number means more of a quantity with the "qty." in this case being hp. so more hp as we understand in cars means more power, thus reverting back to a larger number being more, more horsepower. so Car A puts out 220 hp, thats 13 more hp than the 207 hp Car B. but see with cars numbers can mean just as much and just as little all at the same time. see car B puts and delivers its hp to the gravel and really kicks asphalt tho its less hp than Car A thats a powerhouse of its own with 220 hp, Car B there proving the higher qty. measured in hp meant nothing. so Mafia's right dont worry about numbers as much as you should the delivery of power. also im comparing torque graphs on cars with the STAGE 3/4 turbo options vs STAGE 5 or "Original" turbos, until it was brought to my attention i assumed the torque curve would've been exact are bear minimal difference between a 4 turbo and Original turbo.

There's one thing that is often forgotten when praising the Stage 5 turbo over the Stage 4, yes it gives more grunt for the low rev range but usually with a penalty for the high end power. I could hardly care less about the extra 10 bhp and 20 Nm at 3000 rpm if it means losing that 10 bhp and 20 Nm at 8000 rpm when my car never goes below 5000 rpm on the track.

I'm all for low end power on street cars, it's highly useful there, but for circuit racing it's rarely beneficial especially if it comes with a drop in high end power because the engine should be running at high revs anyway. I've tried the R34 GT-R with both options and while the Stage 5 admittedly pulled harder out of slow corners the Stage 4 caught back on the straights. No noticable difference in lap times.

Speaking of the Supra, especially if it's the Mk IV RZ, I'd actually want something like a Stage 6 to move the oomph higher in the powerband. Even with the supposed to be peaky Stage 4 it overkills the tyres at low revs and runs out of breath at high revs. Not good.

yea the two turbos really have no major diff when your knocking down laps. and the edge if it really is one on going with the 5 over the turbo 4 is minimal. im a high peaky RPM guy, i look for top end torque and rev, i admire low end torque and im fully aware of the benefits there but its not my forte to say. thats why i tune Hondas and drive one as my daily driver. im not gonna mis .300's of a second off a lap time because i chose low end torque over high end, the feel is just as minimal as the lap time diff, so good point i always admired the Finn's for your phenomenal driving skills and expertise in tuning and mechanics.

While I always respect Greycap's words, it's also dependent on driving style, the circuit you're on and the goals you're achieving. On tracks like Motegi, Deep Forest, Seattle and Nurburgring where there is a lot of stop and start, a Stage 5 is better in that area. On more flowing/straight circuits like R246, Infineon, Le Sarthe and even GVS, a Stage 3/4 might be better.

I know for my Top Speed FF runs, sometimes I use the Stage 3 because it makes up the initial bottom end lost time when it's up in the top end. Other times I'll go Stage 4 if it's not going to affect the low-mid range torque of the car too much. Otherwise I will stick to Stage 5 because it helps more than hinders a car.

Usually, when I go to the tuner village, I take cars of specific manufacturers to specific tuners. Nissans, Subarus and Mitsubishis go to Mine's. Toyotas go to TOM'S. Hondas go to Spoon. Mazdas go to RE Amemiya. Sometimes I'd take a Nissan to Trial or Opera Performance, but not that frequently. It's like I have OCD...

I actually do this, too. I pretend the driver has a preference! lol

Stage 6?

Yeah, Stage 6....the imaginary turbo kit. :P Greycap is referring to having an even more insane and peaky turbo because the Stage 4 still rips R5's up on a Supra, not as badly as a Stage 5 does but it's still bad enough.

oh cool, that reminds me of a RZ i tuned that pulled in Simulation mode like the cars do in arcade mode. i think i mad it just after the 1200M line on the track course before that burnout ended, it felt like driving with the E-brake half way up... i think this was GT3 though, cant remember for certain, hmmm...
