Tuning challenge

I am no expert when it comes to tuning but it seems fairly straightforward that after getting a turbo and upping the hp of a car significantly, the best way to get the most out of it is usually to raise the automatic settings of the gears up to around 20.

I recently won the Nissan GTR Racing prototype from the 'Dream Cars' hall. The car runs like a dream and I want to use it in some of the other races in the extreme menu but here is the problem: when a stage 4 turbo is used the hp goes through the roof - way over a 1000 - but it needs MAJOR fiddling with the gears to be able to harness any of that power.

The car stays in 1st gear and starts mis-firing and it totally ruins the acceleration. The only solution seems to be dropping the automatic gear setting to 2 or 3 and then stretching out the range by dropping the last gear ratio setting to around 2.2

This seems to work but I can't help feel that there might be a better solution to getting hold of more of that power.

Those settings equal a 9.72 second-ish drag time (without nitro) at Vegas. Can anyone do better and tame the beast?

Help!

One solution would be using manual gears as you seem to be using automatic. Am I right?

just kidding about staying on the track. JHave been using automatic gears but I suppose its time to switch

i need the extra hp to beat class 3 race cars with a LM race car.

The manual gears feel weird for the first half hour, then changing gears becomes second nature. I used automatic for EIGHT years and switched to manual about a month ago. I don't even notice the gears anymore, go on, make the switch. :)

BTW, if you notice that there is something wrong with the revs, you are ready to use manual as you know something should be done with the gears. 👍

I agree with GreyCap. I used 2 use auto on every drivin game ive had. But when GT4 came out, i thought 2 myself, im a big boy now, i can handle gears 👍
It is realy s*** at first but once u convert, its so much better.

To me the reason was to get some more challenge to the game, using auto was just too easy.

TOPIC: how about lengthening the first gear to the max, this might help?

OFF-TOPIC: why about every other person here spells my nick with capital G and C? Just Greycap, please. :P

yeah, I guess I can give it a go although I have a hard enough time keeping the car on the road without worrying about gear-changing!

It takes a hour or 2 to get used to it, but you will get much better real quick, and you can really enjoy the game more.

starting with GT1 on it's launch date (some day in late spring 1998) and up until well after GT3 was released (probably until spring 2003) i used automatic.

manual just seems to come naturally now, i've found a way to watch the tach and watch the road..well, i'm not really looking at the road, just my peripheral vision is. it's kinda like how you watch a movie in foreign language and read subtitles. hard at first, but simple after you get the hang of it.

Aycorumba  This is an old thread. Have you tried the 1/4mile thread for that cheeseman0777? That thread is where we talk mile times 👍

i have an RX-7 Type R Bathurst R and i got a 9.777 1/4 mile.

If that's a no nitrous run, get a picture of the run and host it in the 1/4 mile thread. That would put you at #2 as I have an already saved run of 9.750 with the RX7, slapping nitrous on that gets me a proven 8.318 1/4 mile.
But in saying that, you are only .027 behind me, about 1/4 carlength.

luckychips, using the GTR proto is a waste of time if you're going to try and race the Group C Le Mans cars. The front tyres get mashed harder than anything. For something with similar power but easier on the tyres, look at something like the Mercedes CLK-GTR. It's 800hp, can be jacked up to 1100hp+, and is easier on the front and rears than most of the other cars.

GT3&4 are the only racing games I use the manual shifting in. I don't look at the tac, just shift by the sound only. If I start watching the tac I start running off the track. My best times have always been turned in using this method. It is also the way I drive in real life.

to be quite honest, i dont think i could pull that off again, i might be able to, but i would just have to see. ;) i will post with a picture. :)

Ummm, long time between replies. I said that to you over a year ago now.

Times have changed a lot since then in the 1/4 mile world. :P Not to mention more people are waiting for GT5 or playing GT5P a lot more nowadays.
