Welcome to the third ever Tuning Competition on GTPlanet. Here is everything you need to know to participate.

How it Works

I start the competition each Sunday, listing the name of the car you are to tune, and which track the settings will be tested at. You will not have to tune at that track, but it is highly recommended, since the judges will be testing there.

The judges are:
  • Scaff
  • Dark Elite
  • gregc
  • De@tthwi§hOo
Once the judges are finished testing all the settings, they will rank each of them on the following categories:
  • Turn-in (entry to corners)
  • Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
  • Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
  • Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
  • Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
  • High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
  • Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
  • Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Each category will be rated on a scale of 10 (with 10 being the best). Once the ranking is complete, all of the seperate ratings for a set-up from each judge will be compiled together for that one set-up. This is done with all the other settings, and the one with the highest ranking wins.

The judges will also write a mini-report about the settings, and how they felt driving them.

What to Tune, and Where to Tune At

You will have to tune the Dodge Viper SRT-10 @ Laguna Seca. You must use S3 tires, and no ASM.

Rules

  • No Driving Aids (ASM, TCS is OK) allowed.
  • No ballast allowed.
  • You can tune the car in any way you wish, as long you use a reasonable amount of parts (ie don't slap on a sports suspension and a 1.5 LSD and expect to be rated high)
  • You must PM Me your settings, do not post them here. PM them in the following format:
Code:
Car:

Part List:

[B]Suspension[/B]

Deadline

I will be gone on vacation for the next few weeks, and I'll probably get back in the beginning of July. Once I get back, Week 3 ends, and your settings must be submitted by then.

Good luck!

Duck where can I find the list of settings for week 1 and 2?

Cant wait for this one, its a great car and a good track, should be interesting. Will get tuning tommorow evening.

I'm going to try this one. I haven't had much access to a PS2 and GT4. I set up a car for the first week, but forgot to copy down my settings. :ouch:

I haven't driven the Viper much, but I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the Link gregc, also done mine too for this week, but havent submitted them yet.

FireEmblem62
I got a new PS2, so I hope I can stil be a judge.

Cheers,
Matt.
You can be one for Week 4. :)

Also, since I'll be on vacation for the next few weeks, the deadline is pushed back. I should be back around the beginning of July, so that's your deadline.

Just sent in the settings thinking it had to be in on the 24th, but didnt realize it till after I had sent it to you

*Is relieved to find he's got a little bit more time to get things for Week 2 sorted* :dopey:

EDIT - Duck already knows my opinion for running Tuesday-to-Tuesday, but for the record I'm in favour. :)

sent in my settings, whoo hoo!! let the fun begin.

I was gonna send mine in now, but I guess putting a lil extra time couldnt hurt... But I actually got this one driving with much less understeer...
Course, if any of the judges like to ride the brakes, so far, I'm not seeing much you can do to stop the pile dive

Yeh its a bit of a beast under heavy breaking, and Laguna has lots of that, but with carefull breaking on the drivers part you can stop it in time and still manage to get round every corner.

Sent my setting, hope will have better score this time :).

BTW, is 1'39 a good laptime for this car?
I don´t know, but I think I did 1´35 rounds with my setup.

When will the results for week 2 be up?

As soon as I get back from vacation. Right now, I'm in Colorado Springs, and I'll be leaving to home Friday. I'll be back Sunday afternoon, so I can get everything situated.

Also, what do you all think of moving the start/deadline of the comps to Tuesday? That way, the judges will have more time to do it (since they have the whole weekend), and you all have time to make your settings? Thoughts?

I support that because I only get time to play at weekends so making the most of Sunday is a good call for people like me.

Doesn´t really matter to me, since I´ll be gone for 14 days as of tomorrow (sucks! won´t be able to see the result of week two until I´m back home), and then home for three weeks anyway. But I suppose that it is a good idea.

You got my settings right? I dont want a repeat of week 1.....

I tried a different stragey for that week and I hope it works
