Welcome to the fifth Tuning Competition on GTPlanet. Here is everything you need to know to participate.

How it Works

I start the competition every Sunday, listing the name of the car you are to tune, and which track the settings will be tested at. You will not have to tune at that track, but it is highly recommended, since the judges will be testing there.

The judges are:
  • Dark Elite
  • FireEmblem62
  • Team666
  • To Be Announced
Once the judges are finished testing all the settings, they will rank each of them on the following categories:
  • Turn-in (entry to corners)
  • Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
  • Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
  • Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
  • Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
  • High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
  • Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
  • Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Each category will be rated on a scale of 10 (with 10 being the best). Once the ranking is complete, all of the seperate ratings for a set-up from each judge will be compiled together for that one set-up. This is done with all the other settings, and the one with the highest ranking wins.

The judges will also write a mini-report about the settings, and how they felt driving them.

What to Tune, and Where to Tune At

You will have to tune the Gillet Vertigo @ Midfield. You must use R2 tires, a Stage 3 Turbo, and no ASM.

Rules

  • No ASM allowed.
  • No ballast allowed.
  • You can tune the car in any way you wish, as long you use a reasonable amount of parts (ie don't slap on a sports suspension and a 1.5 LSD and expect to be rated high)
  • You must list every single part you used in the PM to me with your settings. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of points.
  • You must PM Me your settings, do not post them here. PM them in the following format:
Code:
Car:

Part List:

[B]Suspension[/B]
-Spring Rate: 12.0 / 12.0
-Ride Height: 100 / 100

Deadline

Deadline is Saturday, July 22nd.

Good luck!

👍 Oh yea the Gillet Vertigo @ Midfield. One of my favorite tracks.
I'll make sure this time around I get everything sent right.

Just curious to know how you guys go about choosing a track and car for each week?

Um, my (PAL, if it makes any difference) game will only allow me to fit a Stage 3 Turbo
Really? I could've swore it uses a Stage 4... Oh well, I'll edit the post.

I pick a car and track combo that brings something new. For example, Week 1 was a Japanese car, Week 2 a British car, Week 3 an American car, Week 4 a German car, Week 5 a race car, etc. I try not to choose something stupid and hard for judges and tuners alike, like Nissan R89C at the Nurburgring, but I also try not to choose something too easy, like the Caterham at the Beginners Course.

Has anyone hit under 1min in this car?
Cause my settings are prob for Hot laps. It's hard for me to tune a car and not have the urge to go as fast as possible.:scared:

nope, iv been semi close, this RC i actually think was designed for track terrain kind of like the NUR. but hey what do i know, not alot. =)
This RC has alot of things to it that are allready in good tune, but its where fine tuning come into play.

Just wondering Duck, as I don't have a Vertigo yet (soon to be remedied :)), does the mandatory Stage 3 Turbo Kit mean that that is the only non-stock-fitted part that will be used this week? (Along with the tyres)

EDIT after Post #11 - Not what I asked, anyone got an answer?

I tested the Vertigo this morning, I was rather disappointed though, the thing just loves to push.

The s3 turbo hardly makes the difference, it turns the vertigo into a high-end preformance RC.
Meaning stock without the s3 turbo, its practically a low-to-mid engine car, from speeds of 0-160(ish).
Adding the turbo adds the extra "Push" as it climbs towards 200 and over.

Yep, it's the only part that's required (other than tires of course).

Thus why I chose it. ;)

Will be trying to tame the untameable tonight. good luck everyone.

I
HATE
THIS
CAR

No matter what I do, this thing still pushes and the rear wheels still spin. Braking is another thing...dont eveb get me started:mad:

What about braking? I think it's quite fine.

So far, my setup is working, but the car pushes way too much from the center of the corner and off.

Sonzilla
When it happens center & off do you modulate the gas or is it at WOT?

I modulate, but sometimes I have to get off the throttle or even get on the brakes to stay on the track.

lol whats braking? never heard of that one..
sounds to me like you guys are throttle punchers, or at least most of the time.
The vertigo is more of a speedway car because its *BREAKES are useless, but it Loves to "push" as most of you would like to say.

Break = to disable or destroy something, etc.

Brake = to slow a vehicle down.

I have a feeling this week will be interesting.

Hmm well I can tell you it deff will push if you let off the Gas.
I'm Wide Open through the whole turn. (controlled Push) whatever you call it. Seriously I gave my friend my Vertigo setting and he couldn't drive it worth a crap no where near my times. I hope the judges are ready to drive a 5 digit Vertigo.....:scared:

Set the car up to day... TS comments were quite spot on.... with the stock setup the car tend to push mid to exit and the brake either locks the wheel or felt a bit weak when modulated. Manage to fix the push on the exit but the mid still pushes when throttle is meshed (too much sudden weight shift to the rear). Brakes will depend on how the judges drive the car......

Well managed to get soemthing out of it, I putting in low 1'03's with it, just 4th gear is a pain, brakeing is fine with this car, very stable... or mine is at least, the turbo actually smooths that car out a little, that lag actually helps.

The car stock will reach 200MPH easy and with the turbo and the rite gears and a bit of nos I bet it will hit at least 260+

240^drift
did you guys manage to fit the differential where you can maintain 80 around turn 3?
=O

Damn 80mph at turn three. Well I looked at my replay and I'm at 100-115mph with a tap of the breaks then wide open after that. My lap times on avg are 1.01.200.....

Your either breaking way to hard, early or your setup needs more adjustment then LSD. What are your lap times?

edit..

I'm inclined to agree with you...

''The car stock will reach 200MPH easy and with the turbo and the rite gears and a bit of nos I bet it will hit at least 260+''
306.05mph, in fact.

EDIT - ''No. I haven't added it yet to the rules, but even if you applied it [NOS], it wouldn't affect scoring.'' Yep, I will simply ignore NOS on setups.
