Welcome to the sixth Tuning Competition on GTPlanet. Here is everything you need to know to participate.

How it Works

I start the competition every Sunday, listing the name of the car you are to tune, and which track the settings will be tested at. You will not have to tune at that track, but it is highly recommended, since the judges will be testing there.

The judges are:
  • MasterStorm
  • Toronado
  • gregc
Once the judges are finished testing all the settings, they will rank each of them on the following categories:
  • Turn-in (entry to corners)
  • Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
  • Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
  • Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
  • Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
  • High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
  • Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
  • Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Each category will be rated on a scale of 10 (with 10 being the best). Once the ranking is complete, all of the seperate ratings for a set-up from each judge will be compiled together for that one set-up. This is done with all the other settings, and the one with the highest ranking wins.

The judges will also write a mini-report about the settings, and how they felt driving them.

What to Tune, and Where to Tune At

You will have to tune the Mercedes SL65 @ Suzuka (full). You must use S3 tires, and no ASM.

Rules

  • No ASM, ballast, or nitrous is allowed.
  • You can tune the car in any way you wish, as long you use a reasonable amount of parts (ie don't slap on a sports suspension and a 1.5 LSD and expect to be rated high)
  • You must list every single part you used in the PM to me with your settings. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of points.
  • You must PM Me your settings, do not post them here. PM them in the following format:
Code:
Tuner: (your username)

Dont you mean the SL65 AMG. Theres not regular SL65 in my game..
No regular SL65 exists anyway. Only AMG cars are given two-number designations, if it were not an AMG car it would be called the SL650 (and that isn't made either, in fact this 6.5 litre engine has never been used outside of AMG). So it is the same thing, as Duck says :P

Have fun dialling out the torquesteer (yep, on a rear-wheel-drive car) if you decide to go full tune!

Now, I would like to make something very clear.
If you do not list a part, I will not fit it.
If this means a customisable part is left out, I may remove points for lack of changed settings.
If you cannot spell or name parts correctly I may remove points for poor presentation.

I wouldn't say that's fair, since sometimes people don't really have that good of grammar skills. This is a tuning contest, not a book report. I know it's tricky to apply the parts since sometimes they're not spelled correctly, but to dock, say, 3 points because of it isn't justified.

this car has handling and weight of doubledecker bus. on slow speeds it's agile, but at high speeds it goes straight no matter what kind of brake settings one has. thus, I'll try to turn it into oversteery one.. :mischievous: atleast below 100mph :ouch:

I think this competition would be better if it was SL65 on the Las Vegas Drag Strip.

I know, that is an unlikely eventuality but if a submission is particularly poor I might remove one point or suchlike. After all, you do always post up a code for people to copy, and so far only one ever has copied it directly!
It's not so much spelling them wrongly as not distinguishing between parts, like the Close and Super Close gears and the different Suspension parts.

It doesn't require great grammar skills to read the names the game gives us, that's the why I can't see how people can mis-name parts. Like I say, I'm not likely to have to dock points for this. That's why I said 'may' rather than 'will' :P

I can sense I'll have some overpowered understeering setups and some underpowered tail-happy ones, I like a bit of variety

agreed. or test course. there's no way to make this barge turn..

Well, I just did, I used a little secret I learned from tuning in NASCAR sims, but I'm not gonna tell you what it is.

now submitting my first settings for this competition to duck.
what a weird car, especially after last week's m3.
i think the key here is to limit the power, set it up just firm enough and avoid it from making too many mistakes at the track. using the turbos just makes it more impossible to control.

to me, turbos are part of controlling.. :mischievous: throttle control is the basics of fast driving, I'd say.:D

i guess you're right but using the ds2 it's very hard (to me anyways) to only open up halfway. so limiting the power to me means being able to get it better thru the curves.

well, I do use both DFP and DS2 to see what kind of differences it brings out. with DFP this cars behaviour and flaws are obvious, because you can't get the wheels from lock to lock on a milliseconds like with DS2's stick.

Going to have to pass this week :(

Absolutely no time during the week and away this weekend - on the plus side, I'm going to see the touring cars so it's not all bad :D

I can't remember all of the damn settings, so I'll be pushing the deadline.
EDIT: I Just PM'd my settings to Duck. :D

Sonzilla
Damn I hope I wasn't too late. I PM'd it right on the dot.
You still have 3 hours left. It's 9 PM here.

And even then, if you PMed it tomorrow morning, it's still okay, as long it's before I start posting them up.
