Last night, while fiddling with my '71 Mustang and swapping exhaust systems, I noticed something odd about making changes to the car in practice mode. I had begun the session with this pattern: drive, stop, save replay, swap a part, and then drive with the new part installed. I was doing this to check the differences among the various exhaust packages.
After a few iterations of doing this, I decided I did not need to continue saving the replay after each driving session. So, I'd stop, change a part, and then get back to driving only to realize that the changes I was making were no longer making a difference in the sound coming from my car (I was only working on exhaust sounds).
So, I changed the routine by exiting fully from practice mode after each parts swap. I would leave and go out to the choose track screen and then re-enter. Basically, I was forcing the game to auto-save and recognize that I had changed parts. At least, it seemed to me that was what I was accomplishing.
What I'm getting at after all this rambling is that I had expected the game to recognize newly installed parts without me having to leave the practice session or do something to force the game to account for changes I had made to the car. Does what I have described make sense? Has anyone else encountered this? Am I missing something really basic that would save a bunch of time?
